Imagine your life without Mario, or Sonic, or Zelda, or pizza. Unthinkable. I will never forget my cousin getting Super Mario Bros. 3 for his birthday, we completely skipped the cake. We would sneak down in the middle of the night just to play it, epic.
I know how you feel, it took us a month to realize that duck hunt was in the box when we got our NES. Hey what's this gun thingy for? Sure enough we did try using it shoot at goombas.....
A correction about Super Mario Bros. story:
No. You aren't killing Toads when you break bricks. The manual states that "if you come across mushrooms that have been turned into bricks or made invisible, they will reward you by giving you a power boost." This means that bricks that are broken are not Toads. And only bricks that have power-ups in them are Toads.
That#s sad, I hate Toad so much with so much passion that I would love to stab him with a knive, and the thought of killing him in this game was satisfying ugh
I think you're right..
i thought bowser castle bricks are toads
and as all of us know you can't break them!
This was a genuinely charming and entertaining look back at some of the best video games ever made. I will say I think the originals are the definitives, but it’s all just a matter of opinion.
Reddit took me here -- great informative video! Nostalgia raging pretty hard now :)
Sad that i can pick niftski out of a lineup by his keyboard picture
I watched the whole video, lol. I just beat the Lost Levels Alls Stars version with the help of the rewind feature on Nintendo Switch Online. It actually helped make the game more enjoyable and less punishing for me.
I have been playing the original Mario games since the 2000s, TIL the actual sequel has eyes on clouds and shadowdrops behind text
Wow that was a pretty good video!
(The joke is I made this comment right when the video got released)

Mario 2: A dream inside of a dream? Why? He was dreaming of a starcase, found a door, opened it and freed the people, but all this is the same dream. So where does this Inception come from?
Really solid retrospective. Personally, Super Mario Bros. 3 will always reign supreme but that is a heavily biased opinion. Nostalgia is powerful. Though Super Mario World is indeed the technically superior game. I just prefer the aesthetics of 3 and as cool as Yoshi is in World, Yoshi's Island solidified how Yoshi should control forever, with that being my all-time favorite 2D platformer (SNES version specifically).
Hey saw this on reddit really informative & interesting
Definitely a pretty fun retrospective, as a diehard Mario fan myself I obviously adore these games as much as the next guy (minus The Lost Levels) and watching this retrospective definitely has made me appreciate them that much more and you did a great job with this one even if a year has passed lol
Also, do you plan on making retrospectives on all the later games and then do a deep dive review of the recently released Super Mario Bros. Wonder now that it's out? It'd be pretty fun too to hear your deep thoughts on the rest of the games too plus Wonder now that I've watched the entire retrospective.
I always felt that Mario games had depth where Sonic was shallow. Although I enjoy both.
I think the star makes Mario a Starman. I prefer to call it star as well.
The best way to play lost levels is on the snes in my opinion I actually enjoy that game for the challenge
Want a simple but very effective joke? 2:27
Hey more of a donkey kong guy that was a awesome video
I love the real Mario 2(lost levels) the extra challenge was ace and I disagree about the original Smb1/2 controls as I think they are near perfect from the get go and are precise which you can see in the speed runs.
I enjoy this video.
As a huge fan of basically every Mario game I can say that they are all really good games (even the lost levels but I played that on the Nintendo Switch online with the rewind thing so that's probably why.) Although I don't have any nostalgia for these games yet because I grew up with New Super Mario Bros DS I played them for the first time almost a year ago.
I can agree with the rankings of the mario bros games
Mario THE GOAT of all GAMING
Mario BROTHERS
How many games for the NES utilize a mm3 mapper chip
Theres this one old guy i work with who ironiclaly never heard of Mario. Sad. I dunno if hes trolling. Or what. This guy dont even know who Tim Allen is. I feel sorry for him. Even my grandparents heard of him and theyre mid 80s.
You are stranded alone on a deserted island, who would you rather be stranded with Sonic or Mario? If you guess right I'll subscribe....ready GO
I think im the only person on earth who actually enjoys the lost levels level design(with the switch’s rewind features of course, and also not the maze levels those suck)
Yes
Super Mario
sorry but wtf did you just say?
its not hard??
I play souls like and every game on hard mode
but this is sooo hard for me!
how its not hard my bro??
it is really hard but you are good at it!
Great video! But dude, you yell too much lol, tone it down for those of us wearing headphones.
Lol sorry about that, maybe I should proofread these with headphones (although I don't think i get THAT loud)
@@Brandt2698 nah its not bad.. more surprising than anything. Good video though I'm sure it took a while to make
Did you ever play yoshis island on SNES?
I'd ask you to please normalise your sound levels, because these sudden screaming fits are hell on the ears and speakers, but I loved the video otherwise.
I’m more of a classic Sonic guy than classic Mario but I love Mario 3 and World. Easily the best classic Mario games. World is better than 3 because Yoshi. That’s it. I love Yoshi(I never abandon him for an extra jump you animals!) Those are awesome games. Mario 1 and 2 kinda suck but those games are a lot older and like the first of their kind or whatever idk so it’s excusable.
Bro doesn't know about how you can hold the select button and you get to start back at the world you died in lol
tails!
Mario
Hot take you got there jaygi
@@Brandt2698 extreme farts
I don’t understand how people like Sonic. The character is supposed to go fast … but when you go fast… it messes you up.
I disagree, also why are you commenting this on a video about Mario lmao
@@Brandt2698 you said … in the video… you like Sonic more than Mario. Correct?
Oh yeah that is true, Sorry I forgot about that part lol
@@FarnzworthIII I may be 5 months late, but the point of sonic games (at least the good ones) is to go as fast as possible and avoiding obstacles, even using them to your advantage; sonic adventure 2 built on this idea by creating the ranking system which gives you a score depending on how well you performed in the level, it may involve some trial and error at first but you will reach a point in which it is easy to memorize obstacles and do incredible skips using the level design to your advantage to complete them even faster. He’s a physics-speed based platformer, not just temple run hedgehog edition
Sounds like you’re bad at Sonic games. A good player can go fast no problem and not get hit once. Going fast is something you earn
too much cursing
