Jeff Lynn can't possibly be recognized enough for his contribution to Rock n Roll. He won't be appreciated until he passes, and he'll be more recognized when the artists he's worked with pass as well. He's a legend that most people won't recognize until after he's gone. He's amazing.

Reading down through the comments, I think 'The Traveling Wilburys' (George Harrison, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison Jeff Lynn and Bob Dylan) are getting enough mention to warrant a reaction or at least a spot on the next poll. "Handle With Care" or "End of The Line", the latter which was a tribute to Roy Orbison after he passed away before the second album could be finished.
I watched some young kid do a reaction a while back, who had no idea who they were. At the end he said, "For a bunch of old guys they were pretty good." LMAO

It took 4 Beatles and George Martin to accomplish what Jeff Lynne has done musically all by himself. Of course, by popularity and commercially, The Beatles are no 1 but musically Jeff Lynne rules. I am a huge Beatles fan but Jeff Lynne is much better with Harmonies, Orchestration, as an incredible Producer, singer and songwriter. Another ELO song to check out? They're cover of Chuck Berry's, 'Roll Over Beethoven', which completely changed my life & appreciation of music when I was a kid. Jeff Lynne only has a couple of solo albums, but they're both fun, & he's produced music for a lot of artists over the decades, including Paul McCartney, Brian Wilson (Beach Boys), Dave Edmunds (Rockpile), Joe Cocker, & Regina Spektor, to name a few. And, yes - definitely give a listen through to the Travelling Wilburys. Bit of trivia on that, after Roy Orbison's untimely death in 1989, the other Wilburys asked Del Shannon to replace him in the lineup, & Shannon accepted. Unfortunately, though, they only managed to get one song recorded (a cover of Shannon's hit, 'Runaway'), before he too died unexpectedly. So, the band soldiered on as a quartet for their 2nd album.

I'm sure there were some ELO purists who preferred the band's earlier prog rock sound, but to me this song had a pop/rock sound, not a disco sound. "There's a hole in my head where the rain comes in". Hmmm, I wonder if that's referring to the Beatles" "I'm fixing a hole where the rain gets in and stops my mind from wondering..." Whenever I heard that ELO line, I thought of the Beatles lyrics to "Fixing A Hole" on Sg Pepper. Maybe because ELO seemed to be a band that came from one Beatles' song - "A Day in the Life".
Wikipedia-Jeff Lynne and the Beatles excerpt: The original aim of Electric Light Orchestra was to take up "where the Beatles had left off, and to present it on stage." Lynne said. John Lennon praised the group, calling them the "sons of the Beatles" on a radio station when discussing the group's 1973 single "Showdown" on the New York radio station WNEW

ELO is great. However, I may be the odd man out here, but I prefer Jeff Lynne’s other work. His solo album “Armchair Theatre” is wonderful, especially the songs “Every Little Thing” and “Lift Me Up”.
I am also a big fan of his first band “Idle Race”. I would be shocked if ANYONE else here has heard of the band. Their two albums lacked the slick production of the ELO albums, but his songwriting was never better… I have always been a sucker for a beautiful melody. Two of my favorite Idle Race cuts are “Days of Broken Arrows” and “Come With Me”.
… and we can’t forget the band Lynne was in before ELO, “The Move”. I’m sure there are quite a few here who were fans of The Move because they were very popular in the UK. The Move couldn’t be said to be a Jeff Lynne band because Roy Wood was the dominant creative force in the band. A few of many favorite cuts are “Do Ya” (written by Lynne), “Blackberry Way” (Roy Wood), and “Words of Aaron” (Lynne).

You boys have to hit the Wilburys. It was really started by George Harrison but all of them knew each other quite well and to say it worked well is a huge understatement. You can start with End of the Line or Handle With Care. Arguably the best R&R super group ever formed. Harrison, Lynne, Petty, Dylan and the great Roy Orbison who unfortunately passed away not long after the release of their debut album. Fantastic stuff. Andy you are right that ELO is/was Jeff Lynne’s solo project. But he surrounded himself with great musicians, much like Steely Dan. There’s not just a few more great ELO songs. The one down side of ELO is the drums. Terrible drum tone and not that good a drummer. Good enough, I guess, since they were a great band. But that thud from the drums makes me grit me teeth. I confess to being tone obsessive, also with voices, guitars, bass etc.

Gotta do "End of the Line" with the Traveling Wilburys next. It's such a fantastic low-key jam. Also, remember that when you listen to any Wilbury stuff, they only spent maybe a week or two writing and recording each album. They weren't trying to be some super-group. They were just a bunch of guys who liked to do a jam session with each other.
The full story of how they got together for the album is really fantastic, definitely look into it if you get a chance.

First of all, it is IMPERATIVE that they react to the Official Music Videos for The Travelling Wilburys' two big hits. And in doing so, it is also imperative that they react first to, "Handle With Care". Then, they should react to, "End of The Line". In case A&A are reading this, I don't want to spell out the reasons for all this. But anyone who know anything about the band, and has seen those videos, will understand exactly why I'm saying this.

Jeff Lynne wrote this song in an afternoon. While making the album "Face the Music" they realized that there wasn't a single yet so, Jeff sent the others away to the pub while he sat down and got to work. By the time they came back he had "Evil Woman" basically ready for them to start rehearsing.
    Jeff is a bloody genius.

He wrote the song about an "evil woman" he fell in love with who took him for a lot of his money and broke his heart in the end. He sent his bandmates to a football game that night and then sat down at his piano and banged out this masterpiece in thirty minutes. 30 minutes. I can't write my damn grocery list in 30 minutes, and this genius writes a million+ hit song in less time than it used to take Dommino's Pizza to deliver your food to you. George asked him, Paul hated the idea, Ringo didnt care. Paul wanted George Martin to produce Free as a Bird and Real Love, it almost scuttled the whole anthology project. Personally I think Jeff Lynn was ok for the songs, tho I'm suspicious he listened a little to closely to Jellyfish's 'She still loves him' from 1992 to reference what a '90's sounding Beatles group would sound like for Free as a Bird, rather than leaning on the Abbey Rd timeless sound and equipment.

Paul didn’t “hate” the idea, he was initially resistant because Lynne was friends with Harrison. He later loved Lynne’s work and had him partner up for part of Flaming Pie. As for Jellyfish, they’ve publicly sited Jeff Lynne and ELO as an influence.
