Just a suggestion, having renovated multiple kitchens... Pick out the tile you want for your backsplash before you repaint your cabinets. Make sure the tile compliments your new countertop, THEN pick out the paint color of your cabinets. Especially with whites, there are so many shades and tones, you'd be amazed how much they'll clash with backsplash tile if the tile has any white in it. Just don't want you to have to paint again if you fall in love with a backsplash tile and find that it's clashing with your new cabinet color. Great video as always and good luck with the next go-round of painting.
The green was my favorite of your choices you’ve made so far on your kitchen cabinets. You always have the nicest videos and it certainly takes us out of the troubles in the world for a bit! Can’t wait til real garden season!!!! Thank you for your videos!
I just moved into our home. It's got orange oak cabinets and so far in my head, I have painted them about 5 different colors. I'm scared to mess it up. I'm going to try something on an old cupboard in the shop. That should help me decide. 🌺❤🌺
I agree with others about the sage green cabinets. The color was warm and lovely. Maybe go a lighter sage green? I think you need a contrast in the kitchen otherwise it will look like it all blends in. Also someone said to wait till you have your countertop in to choose your cabinet paint color. I agree with that too. See what color works best with the countertop. In the 90’s I painted our super small dinning room a dusty blue AND rose pink by doing a “sea sponge” paint process. Well…let me tell you….I thought I was being trendy but dang it was an EPIC fail!!! 😳🙄 I can’t remember how long I had those colors but I changed it to a beige and did a “rag rolling” paint process (another trend in the 90’s) which gave a textured look. Yikes! The struggles we face when trying to make our homes feel warm and comfy! 😂😂
Well …….All the inspiration kitchens you pictured were ALL white kitchens , walls, cabinets, countertops so am thinking that if you go with a warm tone that it’s not going to give the effect your wanting. Pictures show light/bright “let the sun shine in” look. Will add that although the current peach color is lovely, I really liked the green you had beforehand. As one who has an all white kitchen now (and it’s my second one) my suggestion would be to consider a white color for the top cabinets and a color like teal/sage green, soft light blue for the bottom. White cabinets need SO much cleaning especially bottom cabinets. Just my .02 on the subject. 🤷🏻♀️ 🥂Here’s to you finding the color the makes you happy and looking forward to the final reveal! You’ve got such a lovely cottage, and your videos bring us all joy watching your projects! 👍🏼
I love your videos! You are just a delight to watch! You have such a sweet personality! You remind me of Rory from Gilmore Girls 😄💕 I just repainted my bedroom the third time in the last couple of weeks so I can relate to finding the right color is hard!😄 💗
so much white! I do think a bit of contrast is good. I liked the green and the "pink" Lighting and the camera and our screens can make colors look so different.
I ❤️ the sage green cabinets! Picking paint colors is very stressful for me. Luckily, like you said, it only cost a little bit of money and some time. Thanks for your videos!
You are the sunshine in your home, that is for sure. All your videos make me smile. There just can't be any gray around you ;-) In the end, whatever colour(s) you chose, it will look lovely and fine. (As it always also did in between).
Greetings Catherine! The sage green was by far my favorite color on your cabinets. I want to paint my outdated wood cabinets a sage green, but haven't got up the courage yet. Paint colors are definately frustrating! I have had my share of flops and failures. For some reason the lighting in my house makes the pale colors I think I'm choosing turn out really dark on the walls. Just keep pushing forward until you get the right look. You are so creative and a breath of fresh air with your charm and personality.
I know the frustration I had my kitchen cabinets painted recently and it took me months to decide on the colour. It was suggested to me to paint my colour choices on cardboard and tape them to the cabinet doors. Then I left them for a few days so I could see the colours different times of the day with the different light. This helped tremendously! Good luck hope you find your perfect colour!
Hi Catherine my favorite color was the sage green. The color of the cabinets don't look bad but maybe you can wait till you get your new countertops in before you paint the cabinets again.❤
Catherine, my favorite color of your kitchen cabinets was the sage green but you always make your house beautiful!! I love everything that you have done over the years.I am excited to see what else you do.I just love the color pink so your house is just a beautiful home to me!💗
I design kitchens everyday and there are thousands of whites. Your counter may also influence your cabinet colour and your backsplash needs to be a pattern or texture because if you’re doing white it will be another tone. Good news its just a monochromatic look but yes you need to get the hue right, all warm in your case. FYI mine is white uppers and navy base with a backsplash of hexagon in colours and textures. I love it, its not everyone’s taste but I always get compliments. Just saying I love your enthusiasm even when you made a wee error in a white selection. Can’t wait to see your reveal! You always make me smile , Thank you for sharing!
I discovered you about a week or two ago Catherine, and you're already making a genuine difference to my life! I've got my "junk room" almost fully decluttered after years and years of procrastination! Mistakes and all, please keep doing what you're doing, we need you in these dark days.
Dear, whites are the most difficult color to deal with! I know I have been trying to find the proper color of white for my townhouse home for several years! I LOVED the shade of white when I moved in many years ago but no record of the color was kept by the builders or developer. Now finding a similar white that simulates what was originally here is PROVING EXTREMELY DIFFICULT!! I didn’t know about undertones when I first began, which was an eye opener. Then I discovered there are a million shades of WHITE! Oh my GOODNESS!!
Hey there from Texas, I love the attitude that you have about all of your projects. “No worries, it’ll all be grand, let’s have a cuppa tea” 😉😉😉 Yes you’re right, natural (and artificial) lighting drastically affects paint colors!!! It can be very frustrating, but I’ve no doubt that your cabinets will look wonderful. Along with your new countertops and backsplash. I have to say, I’m sooo excited for you, you FINALLY get to celebrate yalls beloved holiday out and about with your family and mates!!!!!! 🍀🍺🍿🍀 One other thing I wanted to mention~ Now that your attic door is no longer an orange-y yellow color, but light, airy, and white, maybe you could consider attaching a sturdy handle to the center??? Those kind of openings are a bit of a challenge to open and close, especially standing on a ladder. A handle could give you more support and control, of the door, while lifting and lower it. You could get one in white, it won’t be that noticeable. 🙂🙂🙂 With it being white, your dusty handprints will show up, all over the wood, when you open it for Thanksgiving and Christmas. This way hopefully, you’d only need to clean the handle. Anyway, it’s just a thought, I just wanted to mention it in case you hadn’t thought of it… Have a wonderful and safe Saint Patrick’s Day Take care, and God bless 💚🕊💐
The sage green was my favourite colour. Your kitchen looked lovely when it was that colour and with your new tap and counter top it would look even more gorgeous. Very Lydia Millen-Gordon! That's my vote anyway 😁😍
I understand about different whites. I had my house painted white inside. The ceiling looks white but the walls look yellow. I would have preferred a pink tone than a yellow one. But I didn’t know at the time 🤦🏼♀️
My sister renovated her kitchen and while the cabinets were being built and painted (White Dove), we went and picked out tile for backsplash . As particular and careful we were trying to be, when the cabinets and the tile went up they did not work at all. The cabinet color had a creamy white hue and the backsplash was stark white. Two whites so close it clashed . I feel like if she were to do it all over again, she would pick her countertop slab first then pick out the paint for the cabinets, paint a sample board to put beside the slab to be sure. Then, only after the cabinets and the countertops are in, she would live with it for a while and THEN choose the tile or wallpaper for the backsplash.
I liked the green that complimented all your dainty pinks, but I totally understand wanting to refresh your room. I'm in the middle of doing the same. Funny how you start off intending to change one thing, then you have to replace another thing because it no longer matches and before you know it, it's snowballed into a complete room makeover.
I once painted my bedroom what I thought would. be a pale, cheerful yellow and when the paint was dry it was like being inside an egg yolk! OMG! I couldn't face painting it all over again, so in desperation I dipped a rag in some pale pink paint (I know--sounds weird, but it worked), and did a light-touch faux finish over the yellow (this was back in the days when faux finishes were all the go.) It toned down the egg yolk, thank heaven, and I liked it better than the plain yellow. So--be of good cheer; your kitchen cabinets will look great very soon!
Hi Catherine! You gave me a good laugh at the “50 shades of grey cabinets”! You’re such fun to watch! Can’t wait to see your reveal! Much love from Cobbs Creek, Virginia USA 🇺🇸❤️
Good Luck with the cabinet paint color! I'm in the middle of a project of board and baton in my kitchen/dinette and I've been going round and round with paint color till my head was spinning. I think I finally figured it out. I have paint samples hanging on the walls because each wall has different lighting coming in. Hanging the paint samples really helped me. I had 7 different shades going, ha ha🤣.....going to be ready for the funny farm by the time it's finished.
Everyone loved your green kitchen. To be honest, i love the pink kitchen alot, that's maybe because pink is one of my favourite colours. That video is so beautiful anyway. I enjoy the washing machine, sounds like a plane ready to take off🛫🤭 The green kitchen is pretty too though, but i am a "pink kitchen"😊
@@DaintyDiaries i am sure it'll turn out beautiful. You have this special talent, what ever you paint,or how ever,it looks lovely. I am looking foward to the update. Have a lovely day🌞🌷 Just a thought...how about blue, lightblue🤔😊
Like how you handle a challenge of color, but try to stick close to your “mood boar”.Maybe wait for the counters are in place before you paint. You may want ultra white🤷🏻♀️paint, and replace your table with a movable island. Hmmmm decisions, decisions. Enjoying the video. Can’t wait for your selection. 🌻👍
You are not alone lass, cazillions of us have been there, picking the wrong colour, trying umpteen pots of sample colours. It's frustrating but you are still smiling so the cuppateas must be doing their job! I did like the green though. Lovely video. Thankyou.
You are so funny !😂I get them the paint tones wrong all the time and you'd think one would learn by the time they turn 70!! Lol. Your home is so darling, warm cozy and oh so cute❤
Ok you are so funny. I love the knobs you bought. The beautiful warm green you put in the greenhouse would be lovely. It would look great with the gold metal.. unless you're thinking of an all white look. Either way I'm sure it will be beautiful. Good luck 👍
I think all white could be pretty because you can add some color in the backsplash and then you can change up the seat covers and table runners and just add in decor that has color and you can change the color often as well. I also need to do my cabinets. I decided if I wait till I can afford the kitchen remodel it will never get done so I may as well go ahead and do the quick easy changes with what I can until I can afford the remodel!
I had about 5 different paint chips in my bedroom in different areas. It was amazing to me how they looked at different times of day. One spot I painted a small part with the color on my kitchen cabinets, which I love. In my room in was like a mint green! In my kitchen it is a very pale blueish white. You just never know! It can be very frustrating. I know you'll find what you want now that you know what doesn't work for you.
Hi Dainty, I really enjoy watching your videos, especially on a Saturday morning with a cuppa 😊 I moved into my house last year and oh my days there's lots of DIYing to do! I've finally been able to choose my paint colours and I have found Lick stick on samples are a huge help as you can move them around the room and get a better idea what it looks like in different lights. Plus the samples are only a £1 with free delivery 🥳 I hope this helps. Can't wait for the next video 😁
I adore your persistence. 💪💪💪 I redid my kitchen including tiles, counters and flooring and also painted my cabinets a few weeks ago, alas, it didn't turn out the way I wanted. I wasn't willing or able to paint them again... Maybe once spring comes...
Hello Catherine, I live in the United States I watch your channel weekly and love it, as soon as your book was ready for order I acted right away. Oh HAPPY Day it came in finally today, let me tell you and everyone who hasn’t ordered yet, What’s taking you so long waiting was worth the wait I LOVE it I’m so Happy with it. Great job Girl 2chicky thumbs up 👍🏻👍🏻
I am trying simply white Benjamin Moore and white dove! Hoping they work…I know they are versatile, but white is a world of its own. I have gallons of paint I never used and samples galore. You will find it. I would take the chair you like to the paint store and have them match it. I plan on taking a chair into Benjamin Moore and have it matched for a table! I’m tired of guessing!💕😊💕
Sometimes, the shop can add a little tint to your existing paint to change it. If they will look up the formula for your chair color, they might be able to add something to make the new paint a better blend with your wall color. I think I would wait until your new countertops are installed to make your final cabinet color decision, since alot of light will be reflected by the counters. Looking forward to the outcome.
I can't even tell you how many cans of paint I have from not liking a shade ... it's a process for sure. I love your kitchen but, can't wait to see what you decide on.
This is so fun watching you change your kitchen! I think it looks nice but I can't wait to see it all finished! You have so much ambition. Have a lovely week-end Catherine and Blondie looked so sweet with her curled tail!
Your so right about how different lights change paint colours , I’m a decorator and come across this all the time with customers saying hey I that’s not the colour I chose 🤣 I must admit I did really like the sage green you had but anyway I’ve no doubt you’ll get it a colour you like. Loving the new handles and tap can’t wait to see the final reveal 🌸 xx
I did the paint mistake in my living room it had a slight blue under tone after I had finished it I did'nt like it but kept it for a year as we get a lot of dull wet weather I think we need the warmer shades in our homes thank you Catherine for your time and share i'm looking forward to your new look kitchen.xx
I got the updating bug as well and it took 4 times to get color right in my kitchen, thankfully I have a small galley kitchen. The first 3 colors looked off white on the test patches but looked yellow against my countertop. I tried to live it but just couldn’t do it, my eyes were drawn to yellow walls and the more I tried to ignore them the more I disliked the color. I finally went with a greige that works great with my countertop and is so soothing to the eyes.
Sometimes we just try to hurry the process and you're so right about parts of a room making the hue look unbelievably different. Maybe once you've got the counter tops and tap fitted you will get a better idea.
@@DaintyDiaries North light makes blue, South is warm .....primer will effect the color, if there is lots of green outside that will reflect on the color....then your paints undertones. red , yellow , black , blue..... I think you have talked about all of that.....not sure. I've tried every white. Farrow and Ball has some in the range of 'cord' , string...those names. Took me a long time to find those whites. BUT....I found the ultimate creamy white which works everywhere. OAT ( Eve Ashcroft line ) of Fine Paints of Europe. Pricey but ....covers and works everywhere, every direction ...creamy white. One other trick I use is my window coverings ....I try to find a shade with a hint of yellow or gold ...just a hint to cast a warm diffusion. The window covering will change the whites too. I have closets full of white samples from every paint company. And I still go down the white rabbit hole!
Catherine your kitchen is always beautiful. Mine is dark and because I rent I can't paint 😔 and my kitchen is not even big enough for a table. I have had a couple and neither fit right. I had to move them from side to side of the kitchen, just to walk around in there.
Dont change it, I love it, but Its your house... hehheheh.... seriously, its beautiful... it looks nice.... add your hardware etc... id leave it and live with it for a week or two.... add a couple pops of color... like a rich raspberry pillow on the chairs..... see how it really looks in all light.... hahahah looking forward to the next vid Kid... Take care xx much love
Blondie is beautiful, much cat tucks his tail under too and it is so cute! I feel your pain with the cabinets. Before we moved in last year we painted the whole house in a beautiful warm shade of cream - or so we thought. In the light we get it's grey toned and really not what we want. I'm gearing up for tackling it again, one room at a time!
Picking paint colors is a difficult process! I had about 6 painted squares on my living room wall for about 6 months trying to decide which one was the best. Finally, my husband told me to pick one and we painted the wall and I hated it. We're finally going to repaint it this week. I really admire your ability to tackle so many jobs in your house and get everything looking so cozy. Good luck on choosing just the right color! See you next time!
Oh bless your heart Catherine, very frustrating but yeah, totally livable until you find your perfect shade. You'll definately get there honey. Love that you're OK with the situation and just getting on with PMA hun. You go girl! 🥰😻👍xxx
Our great room here in the Rockies has Northern exposure and LOTS of natural light. I am planning on using Pale Oak in the room. At first I thought I might use it all over the house but I have read and heard SO many people say it *really* changes color in different light and your video just proved it! I might even end up just doing white in the other rooms. Can't wait to see the after when you get it settled. You are right. When you are frustrated you should just stop and take a break, then come back to it when you have a clear mind. Been there so many times!
I think when I paint walls, or other things in my home I have to paint it twice at least. I seem to never get it right the first time. You are so right, lighting and shadows etc. make a big difference from one place to another. Your video was great fun!
I know what you mean - I just did 4 samples of paint on different walls in my house this week and couldn't believe how the colors totally do not look good in my house but they did in other people's house's. Back to the drawing board for me. Great tips today!
Hi Katherine! Paint some scrap boards 3 or 4 different colors and lean them against the walls leaving them in place for a few days and watch them as the light changes in the room. That might help you pick the color that “warms” your soul!
I just went thru what you did with your cabinets only it was my living room. It is so hard to pick out the right shade of white going by online pictures or even the color sample cards paint stores offer to help you pick a color. I painted my entire living room with high ceilings with a color that ended up being too gray & dark, hoping the color would lighten up or grow on me…it didn’t. The secret is all about the lighting in your room. I then bought at least 10 samples of paint, painted big squares on a piece of poster board & walked around the room all day into night. I couldn’t believe how gray some of those colors looked. I finally decided on one that I thought might be too yellow, but when I painted it on the walls & let it dry, it was the perfect shade of warm white. I am puzzled but pleased. Lol Needless to say, Im now a very distrusting customer when it comes to picking out a color by those color sample cards in the paint stores because when the paint goes on your walls, it more than likely is not going to match that color sample. Actual paint samples are the only way to go. Lol Hard lesson learned.
The words of my great grandma (She was Irish too) ring in my head with situations like yours "Oh it will do rightly". I take after my Polish father very pernickety. What ever you do I am sure it will look really nice.
I like the same shade of white chair on the cabinets. Right now it looks white not gray, on camera. You have great vision & taste. Thank you for sharing. Greetings from Canada!
I guess it would be frustrating I am now in my house for 12 years and have a small kitchen and I don't like just white and still fail to find something I like. The kitchen is very dark and everything is white right now. I have faith that the right color will be found after all I think you are perfect with everything you do. Have a nice Friday and weekend and see you next week.

I really like that you painted the plinth. Hopefully you will be happy with whatever color you want. I always like my colors in the warmer tone.

Oh thank you ❤️ yes I did adore that colour too and still do to be fair!
Ditto! I loves that colour in her kitchen.
I absolutely loved the green also!!!!💚
I too loved the green. I think it felt more cottage.
I also liked the green, but I am partial to greens.
Green is gangbusters in the U. S. So natural and woodsy.

I was in love with the green but I feel the direction yr going is beautiful and is more grown up like yr bathroom you go girl 👏
Hi Catherine! You gave me a good laugh at the “50 shades of grey cabinets”! You’re such fun to watch! Can’t wait to see your reveal! Much love from Cobbs Creek, Virginia USA 🇺🇸❤️
Love your videos 😍😍😍 cute accent. Such a pretty cottage house loved your green kitchen cuboards xx
I loved the sage green. I even dreamed of painting mine that color. Pick what speaks to your heart.
wow, lighting really does make a massive difference! Choosing the right colour is trickier than ya think ...absolutely love the new door knobs 🥰🥰
👍Catherine you have the patience of a saint👍🥰 and such a calming, cheerful personality 🥰🥰
Thanks Sara ❤️
Nice job paint colors!!!!
Studio mcgee is taking over our lives!!
It's still a big kitchen. No room in my kitchen for any table and chairs!
Looks great!
Oh my gosh that sounds beyond frustrating too Karen 🤣 hope you found the right shade!!! ❤️
@@DaintyDiaries
fingers crossed, I hope so.
You too! I hope you find that special color!
Everyone loved your green kitchen. To be honest, i love the pink kitchen alot, that's maybe because pink is one of my favourite colours.
That video is so beautiful anyway. I enjoy the washing machine, sounds like a plane ready to take off🛫🤭
The green kitchen is pretty too though, but i am a "pink kitchen"😊
I loved all phases of the kitchen too but it's time for a refresh! ❤️❤️
@@DaintyDiaries i am sure it'll turn out beautiful. You have this special talent, what ever you paint,or how ever,it looks lovely. I am looking foward to the update. Have a lovely day🌞🌷
Just a thought...how about blue,lightblue🤔😊
That sneeze though….lol cute as a bugs ear. ♥️
The sage green was my favorite. 🤷🏼♀️
You are not alone lass, cazillions of us have been there, picking the wrong colour, trying umpteen pots of sample colours. It's frustrating but you are still smiling so the cuppateas must be doing their job! I did like the green though. Lovely video. Thankyou.
Thanks Tina 💗 we've all been there indeed! Thanks for stopping by xx
You are so funny !😂I get them the paint tones wrong all the time and you'd think one would learn by the time they turn 70!! Lol. Your home is so darling, warm cozy and oh so cute❤
The green was my favorite.
I could just imagine how much work it took to do all that.good luck can’t wait to see the final.
Ok you are so funny. I love the knobs you bought. The beautiful warm green you put in the greenhouse would be lovely. It would look great with the gold metal.. unless you're thinking of an all white look. Either way I'm sure it will be beautiful. Good luck 👍
Thanks Kelly 💗
I think all white could be pretty because you can add some color in the backsplash and then you can change up the seat covers and table runners and just add in decor that has color and you can change the color often as well. I also need to do my cabinets. I decided if I wait till I can afford the kitchen remodel it will never get done so I may as well go ahead and do the quick easy changes with what I can until
I can afford the remodel!
I like that you share your 'mistakes' as it keeps it real 😉. I have liked all the colours though
Hi Dainty, I really enjoy watching your videos, especially on a Saturday morning with a cuppa 😊
I moved into my house last year and oh my days there's lots of DIYing to do!
Perhaps go back to the green? It was beautiful. Maybe the chair color for the tops
Great job Girl 2chicky thumbs up 👍🏻👍🏻
awwwwwwww thank you so so much! I really appreciate your kindness x
Loved this video. ❤️
The green was my favourite but I can't wait to see how turns out. I really love your style and can't wait for your book. 💜
I loved the light green and the pink was amazzzzing, and this white is stunning!! I bet you do a light putty next lol xo
I love it that you are so human! We appreciate you
You live and learn Sandy 🤣 thanks for watching ❤️
Love your energy wish I was young again your such an inspiration and I love your banter you really make me laugh
Thank you for sharing! I enjoy your videos as well and your ideas☺️ I love your rug in your kitchen!
Farrow and Ball has a page on their site which tells you how North South East West light will effect your neutrals.
That's a great tip!! Thanks for that Laurel ❤️
Loved all of your Kitchen shades 🤩🤩🤩
You are so enjoyable to watch. Funny and smart. Lol You will get it all figured out. :)
Haha I was just considering painting my cream kitchen a warm sage! Hope you're loving your new look.
Loved your green cabinets!❤️
You kitchen is beautiful , I love nice and cozy .
Loving your video as always.certainly not a fail you are amazing and talented and so cheery x
Agree … the sage was the best
Oh bless your heart Catherine, very frustrating but yeah, totally livable until you find your perfect shade. You'll definately get there honey. Love that you're OK with the situation and just getting on with PMA hun. You go girl! 🥰😻👍xxx
The kitchen looks beautiful 👍😊❤️
you will find the perfect colour...it will be great!
Yes, them colour cards! I don’t trust them either 🤣
I love all white...beautiful..
You too Joan and thanks for stopping by ❤️
