Wow! Your DIY portfolio on projects is incredible! The diversity 😱 I mean sewing, gardening, bee keeping, author, multiple crafts on the circut machine, woodworking and now tiling?! (You Probably know more that I'm missing off the top of my head) But my point is you are a true DIY queen 👑 your projects look incredible even with the little 'mistakes' (that you openly point out) and I aspire to have your level of natural perfection. Seriously. I was at a place earlier where a man was reading the directions for installing a range vent, and he was complaining about it a bit. I said that I'd seen a 4'11" woman from Dublin do one by herself and wire it too! It was hilarious, and it's true!

Catherine, I once had a corner sink with an eyesore drainage pipe - and came up with a solution I was very pleased with. I purchased 3 foot wide eyelet fabric with a scalloped edge, and cartridge pleated it along the unfinished edge before hemming it to length. Then I sewed the fuzzy portion of hook and eye tape to the back of that hemmed side …attached the rough/hook portion of the tape along the sink edge, and hung my sink skirt. It was reasonably inexpensive and elegant - and because it was detachable, it could easily be washed. While I could have left it like that and used behind the skirted area for storage, space in that powder room was minimal. So I opted to install a hook just under the drain pipe, gather the skirt loosely with a ribbon finished on either end with small O rings, and hang both ends of the ribbon from the hook. This swept the skirt off the floor out of the way so movement in and out of the room wasn’t impeded. I thought it was a great way to hide the pipe! ps ~ Upon reflection, I believe I used a length of “sewer’s Velcro” on the skirt, and purchased a length of adhesive-backed crafter’s Velcro to affix to the sink. While I could have tried using double-sided tape or some other glue to adhere the hook side to the sink, I opted for the fool-proof solution!
Thanks for stopping by Jennifer! Wow what a great idea! I love how you added such an elegant touch to your sink with the eyelet fabric and scalloped edge! Thanks for sharing your process! 😍👏
I am so pleased to see you dive in to a tiling project. Yes do not buy on impulse just to show in a video, if you add it later then we get an extra video. Wow you already have a tile saw, now you do not have an excuse. Yes, you go girl you got this all the way! Just smuch it in, looks like a pro handled this project. Love from southern CA, USA.
Thank you so much for the encouragement-it really means a lot! 😊 I love the idea of taking my time and maybe sharing an update later; no rush makes the process so much more enjoyable. And yes, having a tile saw definitely means I’ve run out of excuses, doesn’t it? 😂 Smushing it in and winging it like a pro-here’s hoping! Sending lots of love right back to sunny Southern California. Have a fantastic weekend! X
Amazing job! That little room looks so posh now. You made the tiling look so easy I’m sure it’s not, it’s the cutting that would scare me. You give me courage and I really want to give this a go, you have a great attitude towards diy you are fearless. I need to be more Catherine 😄
It looks so much larger with the wallpaper and paneling and completely transformed! I fully almost passed out watching you cut the tiles. When you brought the saw out, I said, "Please tell me that is not a tiny table saw for tiles!" because I pictured having to put your hands near the blade, but I kept faith. When you actually cut the smaller piece and had your hand right near the blade, I was wiggling in my seat!! I wish you had a sliding miter saw that would cut tiles just so I could calm down 😟😬😂 Glad to see your cold was better before you tackled the rest.

When applying grout always apply diagonally as that's how you get the best results . It stops grout from just sliding back and forth and not getting stuck in to all the crevices. Press firmly while on the diagonal.😊
Catherine you are AWESOME! Your talents and skills continue to amaze me. You have come a long way on your channel. Thank you for sharing and keeping it real.
Catherine! You did a BEAUTIFUL job! I love it! I have never attempted tile, but have a ironic story for you about tile. My second son (born 1987) fought a war in Iraq, came home and got a degree and planned to be a teacher. After graduation from uni, he did two more private stints in Dubai (sub contracting) came home and eventually started his own business laying tile. I never knew he was artistic! 😆😆😆 Proof if you set your mind to things you can do it!
Wow, what an amazing story about your son! It’s incredible how life takes us on unexpected paths, and I love that he found his artistic side through tile work. It really proves that we can all surprise ourselves when we set our minds to something! 😊 Thank you for the kind words about my tiling-it was definitely a learning process, but so rewarding. Sending you warm wishes and hoping you have a lovely weekend ahead! X
Great job on your first wall tiling! I was very nervous before I did a backsplash for the first time, too. One tip that my now husband taught me was to center your pattern. This way your top and bottom row are similar in size and the same with your cut end pieces on each side. My latest tile project was a full walk-in shower and taking the time to center all directions on both walls was a game changer. I absolutely love the final look 😊 I can’t wait to see what you accomplish with the kitchen backsplash. I agree with you 100%! She will be so much happier with a real tile backsplash.
Thank you so much! That’s such a helpful tip about centering the pattern-starting off balanced definitely makes a difference in the final look. A walk-in shower sounds like an ambitious project, but I bet it turned out stunning! It's always worth the extra time to get everything lined up perfectly. And yes, I’m excited to tackle the kitchen backsplash next-I completely agree, a real tile backsplash will make such a difference. Thanks for the encouragement! 😊

Two things. You were extremely brave to use that tile cutter, secondly, you tiled like a professional. Brilliant job,. One for the girls I think there, then....🥰🇬🇧🐾🐾🏡⛄❄️
Aw, thank you so much! I definitely felt brave using that tile cutter-don’t think I’ll ever get used to the noise! 😂 But I’m really glad it turned out well in the end. Your lovely comment has made my day ⛄❄️ Wishing you a cosy weekend ahead! X
I love that you thought to pre-measure and cut the tiles. I would have done the same. I like to have things prepped and ready to use whether I’m cooking, crafting, or doing a diy project. 😊 The splash back looks great! 👍🏻
Thank you! I find that having everything prepped and ready really makes the process smoother, no matter the project. It definitely helps reduce stress and keeps things moving! I'm so glad you like how the splashback turned out. 😊
There's a little saying. When robins appear loved ones are near ❤ Love that mitre gadget you got. Gonna try that for trims for sure.👍 Well done you on the tiling job 👍👍👍 It looks fabulous 😊 I did tile the whole bottom floor (except for the living room floor) of a house I had years ago. That was my first and last time tiling lol It turned out great but I think I threw myself way too in at the deep end with that one.lol😂 You're such a joy Catherine. Thanks for another great video 😊❤
I love that saying-it’s so sweet, and definitely comforting. 🐦❤️ I’m so glad you liked the mitre gadget! It really does make the trimming so much easier-I’ll be using it again for sure. Thank you so much for the compliments on the tiling! 😊 It sounds like you were very brave taking on the whole bottom floor-what an achievement, even if it was a bit of a deep end moment! 😂 You’re always so kind, thank you again for watching and for your lovely words. Wishing you a wonderful week ahead! 😊❤
Catherine the tiny bathroom looks great. You always do such a great job on your projects, even if there are a few hiccups along the way. Congrats to you and your Granny homeowner (sorry, but I don't know how to spell her name😢).❤
I was hoping that you would do some tiling. I knew you could do it if you gave it a go! Love how it is all coming together, you are doing a lovely job. Looking forward to seeing you do the kitchen backsplash 😂
I'm so stoked that you tried tiling! I think it's an excellent first job! I'm so glad you used Schluter rail on the end. It always makes a tiling job look clean and professional. Also, you had a wet saw already! That means you can do cuts around outlets and more than just straight cuts in the future. If you do it again, I'd suggest getting an inexpensive score and snap tile cutter. You'll make the straight cuts much quicker. If you try tiling again (I'm sure you will, it's kind of addictive) and do a brick pattern, try to have the cut pieces lining up in alternate rows (does that make sense?). So that the lines on alternate rows line up perfectly. You want the edge of each tile to be centered above the row below. Also, next time, place spacers below the first row (you'll pull them and silicone the space when you're done tiling and ready to grout). It's the same as leaving a space by the wall when you're installing LVP for expansion. But seriously, as a first time job I think it's stellar and I'm sure Siobhan (Did I spell that right?) was thrilled. You've really elevated that small bath. If you ever need help with tiling and run into a problem, please reach out. Cheers!
Catherine...this video is exactly what I need to tackle a tiny tiling project of my own. I've been hesitant but really just want to jump in and do it. I like that you don't "settle" just to get a project done. When the right piece comes along, you'll add it. You keep it real, which makes you a genuine gem. Thanks for teaching us to believe. ❤
Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m thrilled this video gave you the little nudge to take on your own project-go for it! Honestly, once you start, you’ll find it so rewarding, imperfections and all.
Great job. My friend and I went to Home Depot and took one of those 30 minute classes on how to tile and we tiled her kitchen. It turned out great. You are awesome
@ Thank you! I’m so proud of you.I want you to know that you have grown so much and blossomed into a women that can take on most anything. You have a great eye for making things beautiful and I love that you keep opening up yourself to new things like woodworking and tiling also gardening. I would be so proud to have you as a daughter. You are a blessing. Thank you.
We just watched this morning over our breakfast before work and it looks fab! Great first attempt at the tiling ❤Never tried it myself but would be tenpted after seeing this 👏
Good job on that tiling, so glad you had a wet cutter, it's looking so much better. Yes the cutter is light weight and having to push on the tile a bit, the water splashing underneath makes it slippery. My daughter and I did the back splash for the kitchen and the front entrance, on the wood deck no problem. But for the hearth of the fireplace, the 24 inches tiles on a stainless steel table was a slippery nightmare. We had to tape the dog's rubber mat to the table, we managed but promissed ourselves no more big tiles but it should be no more metal table or bench in you case. Have yourself a good week Catherine, see you next time.
Thank you so much! I'm really glad it's looking better-I’m sure the wet cutter helped a lot, but it definitely had its moments! Taping the dog's rubber mat was a clever!. I’ll definitely avoid using any metal tables for future projects! Wishing you a lovely week ahead, and I’ll see you next time! 😊 X
The wood burning tool would work well for cutting out the mesh from embroidery/sequinned appliqués, if you were thinking about getting back into fabric crafting 🥰
Loved this Catherine!!!! Might I suggest, to play the tiles like a puzzle, sometimes to avoid a tiny sliver of tile or flooring, I shift over the row (sometimes both ways) to “even it out” if that makes sense? My favorite video is by the DIY guy it’s called “how to tile and grout a floor - the complete beginners guide”. He does it in the space, but if you don’t have the space to test the tile layout or if you’re offsite like you typically are, what I’ve done before is cut out a piece of craft paper and just played with the tiles on the piece of craft paper if that makes sense… Because it’s not something I can do with math in my head lol
Thank you so much for the lovely feedback! And yes, that totally makes sense about shifting the tiles to avoid awkward cuts. I love that tip-it’s a great way to make sure everything lines up nicely. Your craft paper idea is genius too! It’s so much easier to lay out everything first on paper, especially when the math gets tricky. I’ll definitely keep that in mind for next time. Wishing you a wonderful weekend ahead! X

I love tile projects. I hope that your tiles do stick permanently because usually when it goes right onto a wall they eventually start coming away. It's best if you use 1/8 or 1/4 HardieBacker. I've been tiling for about 15 years. I love making stuff and collecting left over tiles on marketplace. You are amazing for taking on new stuff.

Well done, girl!! Tiling is no more difficult than wallpapering, and you're a pro at that. I tend to use my fingers to really smush the grout in to the gaps and then go over it to smooth it out. That way you don't get bubbles.

I have a hint for you. When working around a drain, crumple some old plastic bags, tape in place over the drain with painter's tape. Put an old towel or rag over it. It's much easier to clean that than snaking your drain. Or finding a missing ring! I was a DIY fiend in the 1980's. The men in hardware stores asked me where my hubby was.😮

The splash back looks great! 👍🏻
Thank you! I find that having everything prepped and ready really makes the process smoother, no matter the project. It definitely helps reduce stress and keeps things moving! I'm so glad you like how the splashback turned out. 😊
There's a little saying.
When robins appear loved ones are near ❤
Love that mitre gadget you got.
Gonna try that
for trims for sure.👍
Well done you on the tiling job 👍👍👍
It looks fabulous 😊
I did tile the whole bottom floor (except for the living room floor) of a house I had years ago.
That was my first and last time tiling lol
It turned out great but I think I threw myself way too in at the deep end with that one.lol😂
You're such a joy Catherine.
Thanks for another great video 😊❤
I love that saying-it’s so sweet, and definitely comforting. 🐦❤️
I’m so glad you liked the mitre gadget! It really does make the trimming so much easier-I’ll be using it again for sure.
Thank you so much for the compliments on the tiling! 😊 It sounds like you were very brave taking on the whole bottom floor-what an achievement, even if it was a bit of a deep end moment! 😂
You’re always so kind, thank you again for watching and for your lovely words. Wishing you a wonderful week ahead! 😊❤
@DaintyDiaries ah always a pleasure and I wish you an amazing week also 😊 ❤️
Much love 😊
Catherine, you always take on a new challenge, and everything always turns out grand. Well done on the tile work. 👍👍❤❤
Thanks so much! 😊
Incredible job on the tile! I so enjoy your videos; thank you for sharing your journey with us! 😊❤
Thanks so much! 😊
Catherine the tiny bathroom looks great. You always do such a great job on your projects, even if there are a few hiccups along the way. Congrats to you and your Granny homeowner (sorry, but I don't know how to spell her name😢).❤
I came to watch the tile work but loved the unexpected pop into the garden center ❤ your home projects are always an inspiration
I was hoping that you would do some tiling. I knew you could do it if you gave it a go! Love how it is all coming together, you are doing a lovely job. Looking forward to seeing you do the kitchen backsplash 😂
You did a absolutely brilliant job with that tiling. You'll be grand to tackle the kitchen now! Also love the plants you picked up. x❤🇮🇪
Thanks so much! 😊 those plants were a steal
You have created a darling little half-bath! 🥰
Fantastic job, Catherine, very well done. Now you can tick off ' tiling' on your list of things to learn☺️
Definitely something I want to get better at! The backsplash will be next x
Cheers!
This is really helpful! Thank you for taking the time to share those tips!
I was excited to see the title of your vlog, tiling! I think you did a great job and the tiny toilet has a new lease of life.❤
Yay! Thank you. I’m delighted with it. Now to tackle the floor ❤
Brilliant job Catherine. Glad you gave tiling a go, you nailed it.
Loving your videos🙂👏
Thanks so much! 😊
That’s brilliant! Well done you guys 👏
Thank you.
Great job Catherine!!! The tile looks so pretty!!! ❤❤❤
Thanks so much! 😊
Good morning Catherine! Great job on the bathroom!!! Looks really nice 👌 thanks so much for sharing the process ! Have a great day 😊
Thanks so much for watching and commenting! 😊 Have a lovely weekend x
We just watched this morning over our breakfast before work and it looks fab! Great first attempt at the tiling ❤Never tried it myself but would be tenpted after seeing this 👏
Aww hope you enjoyed and had a lovely breakfast! 😍 the hardest part is starting!! You can totally do it start with a smaller area👏
It is turning out beautifully can wait to see the magic you pull off on the little bathroom!!! So for it wonderful 🤩
Oh thank you! 😊
Absolutely beautiful 🤗 double checky 👍👍 you did such a wonderful job 🫶
The wood burning tool would work well for cutting out the mesh from embroidery/sequinned appliqués, if you were thinking about getting back into fabric crafting 🥰
Wow you did a fantastic job of the tiling for a first attempt girl! You are amazing ❤
Thank you so much! That really means a lot to me. It was definitely a learning curve, but I'm so glad I gave it a go. ❤
Well done Catherine, great job tiling in a small tricky area 👍.The bathroom looks amazing 😅.
I’ve been thinking of trying tiling for a really long time. This is inspirational for sure.
Well done great job 👏👏
@@DaintyDiaries in this case I really like the slim tile at the top, because it looks like a trim piece!!! ❤ lovely work!!! I hope you have a great weekend too!! I love how you’re always replying to comments 😊 it’s such a lost art these days!!! 🥰
Girl im been showing my moma your channel i told her you was a girl that can take care of her self love from Tennessee snow here.❤❤❤😊😊😊
Awwww thank you! Love to you and your mam x
Looks amazing as usual 💖
It looks so good! You brought some polish and life to the little bathroom. Love the wallpaper!
Thanks so much! 😊
I’ve always wanted to try tiling myself! I always feel more confident to try something after I see you do it. 😊
Aw, I’m happy to hear that ❤
I love tile projects.
Thanks for the tip with the HardieBacker, I had no idea what that was.
Catherine you have done an amazing job decorating your little loo, it looks beautiful, tfs x Julie
You made a great job of the small toilet makeover. What a transformation 👌🏼✨💗
Thank you!! 😊
This looks fabulous! Way to tackle a daunting project. You inspire us all to push through our anxieties!
I love this powder room makeover - the tile elevates the whole look! You do such beautiful work! Thank you for sharing your first time project…. It’s got me thinking about my small bathroom… I could tile above my small sink too!💪🏼😉
Thank you so much! I'm so glad it’s inspiring you! Tiling above your sink could be a fantastic way to refresh the space-go for it! 💪🏼 You’ve got this!
Love the tile job! You make it look so easy. Even though I know it takes patience.
LOOKS FABULOUS! WELL DONE!! 😊
good morning dear Catherine....you don,t shy away from any work.............wonderful...............have fun and take care of you....Blessings and Greetings from Daggy,Kiel,Germany☘☘☘
Omg the tiles turned out great 😊lovely bathroom 😊thanks sharing 😊
Thanks for watching ☺️
Siobhan must be well chuffed with her luxe loo, the tiles look fabulous!
Love it when you say 'it was fifty quid...' even though you've had the Euro for twenty odd years. 😂
Off topic, but you've inspired me to order some dungarees in the January sales. Let's hope I don't look too ridiculous...I'm 62. 😂
You will look FABULOUS! They are so comfy when your doing bits around the house and garden, no more pulling up your bottoms or a builders bum lol x
If you don’t find storage, maybe you could somehow add some custom shelves, the make a gathered skirt around the basin to cover the shelves? Good luck, love your channel. Xx
Well done, girl!! Tiling is no more difficult than wallpapering, and you're a pro at that. I tend to use my fingers to really smush the grout in to the gaps and then go over it to smooth it out. That way you don't get bubbles.
Great tip 👍
That is a great tip to avoid the air bubbles!
Wow! Just wow! That bathroom looks totally different. Great job!
Thanks so much! 😊
You did a grand job. Can't wait to see completion.
It looks super tidy Catherine, well done ✅
Hello Catherine, you are so inspiring. I love how you just give it a go. Your can-do attitude gives others the courage to try things for themselves. Good job! Have a great week. Take care. ❤
Thank you so much! I'm really glad to hear that my approach inspires you. It's all about giving things a go and figuring things out as we go along. Hope you have a great week ahead-take care! ❤ X
Great job and really enjoyed the piano music in this video.
Bless you Catherine your so talented and great therapy for me to watch thanx for sharing this with us Suexx
Love how you try new different projects. You did a wonderful job tiling x
Thank you! 😊 I’m happy I had a nice small space to practise in ❤
Amazing what a bit of wallpaper and tile will do to a room! 🤷🏽♀️
What a grand job Catherine. It all looks fabulous. I love the wallpaper and panelling. The tiling is just right. Clever gal. Thank you for sharing and giving great ideas.
Nice job! I hope to tile my kitchen backsplash soon. Inspirational video!😊❤
Love love love the tiling Catherine. Well done you. 👍🌟
I love your Irish country roads!
It looks like lily pad shaped scissors. Love the result. That's definitely a bit o Dainty Magic!!!!
I have that trim cutter and I LOVE IT,!!!! Great job! My very first tile job a friend let me use his brand new tile saw and he said “You are a crafter so I know you will do a great job” I loved doing tile. I love your videos and you are amazing!
Thank you so much! That trim cutter is such a handy tool, isn’t it? Your friend was absolutely right to trust your crafting skills-sounds like you nailed your first tile job! I love hearing stories like this; it’s so encouraging. Thank you for your lovely support-it means a lot! ❤
Bloody brilliant as always Catherine. If you do fancy a wee trip to Culloden plenty diy to do here 😂😂😂
I have a hint for you. When working around a drain, crumple some old plastic bags, tape in place over the drain with painter's tape. Put an old towel or rag over it. It's much easier to clean that than snaking your drain. Or finding a missing ring! I was a DIY fiend in the 1980's. The men in hardware stores asked me where my hubby was.😮
This is a great tip thank you! And well done you and your DIY skills 👏 comments like that just wouldn’t fly now for sure!
My goodness Catherine, that looks like an instrument of torture 🫢🥰 looking forward to seeing the tiling.👍I am always looking out for plants that just need some TLC 😂👍
😂😂😂 it kinda does look like that
This was a major improvement. So pretty!
