Looks like you had another great day of chasing them. Here the great horned will not hunt in the daytime so you only get the sleeping shots. You might get lucky just before sunset and get eyes open but hunting is tough. Love the backlit GG at 10:35 on the top of the pine.
I love that Great Horned Owl. Have only seen these owls in captivity. Wonderful that you know how to find them and go hunting with them. You have some great knowledge. Thanks for sharing with us.
I took your advice and finally found 1 Owl, 2 months ago!! They are so hard to find! I am so jealous that keep finding Owl after Owl!! Beautiful pictures brah, beautiful, i also understand the obsession with ghe grey owls, they are spectacular looking! Lou
superb video again steve your so lucky to be able to get shots of owls although we have so many in the uk its very hard to find them let alone to see them hunting in a way you do
Another nice video, thanks Steve. I liked the great horned owl, I would be happy with a sleeping shot, as any owl is a pretty rare sighting for me! I'm currently searching for a very illusive barn owl, here in Lancashire, UK.
Nice owls again, Steve. You know I like them a lot. Wish I would find as much as You do. But here in Germany, things are different. Love the 300 PF as well. Use it most of the time with the D7500. Cheers!
Fabulous video/vlog as usual Steve!!! Amazing to see a great horned owl so close to a great gray owl! A few years back I traveled 5 hours to find/photograph a great gray owl and found a barred owl in a tree literally 60 feet apart!!!! It was amazing. Do you get many short eared or long eared owls near you ? What about a northern hawk owl? Currently I have found my dream hawk owl and haven't posted yet, but I have to be honest, I thought of you while video taping and photographing him as I had a feeling you'd geek out hard core like me. Great gray's and hawk owls are phenomenally fearless of humans and such a joy and pleasure to find and photograph :)
In general Great Horned seem to be much more strictly nocturnal (at least in my experience,) whereas the Grays seem to not mind hunting in the daylight. We have lots of Great Horned here in PA/MD. Spent part of my photo/video hike in the rain yesterday watching a murder of crows harassing one for over an hour from tree to tree. Love me some owls of any sort. Great shot and video as always.
Question Steve, if it is hunting season in the park, why are you not wearing an orange hunter's vest for your protection. Here in Canada, you can't go in the woods during hunting season without an orange vest. Great video by the way.
@@SteveMattheis I do have another question. How do you get to your car when you are owl searching? Do you have a special apt on your phone to bring you back to you car? Just curious.😎
Another nice film Steve. That backlit flight away shot was very nice. The zoomed clip just before he flew was special...loved the intensity in his eyes. Were your zoom video clips shot on the 850? They are very detailed. Thanks for sharing!
Neat as always, Steve.. I’ll be working in Yellowstone this summer and just picked up the Fujifilm 100-400. Wondering if adding the 1.4tc would be worthwhile for wildlife?
Sweet! That will be such a great summer. I wouldn’t bother with the TC personally. I’d suggest going without it and buying it later if you feel you really want it.
Around here, in Northern Kentucky, the Great Horned Owl is boss! I'm surprised, too, that you have the Gray Owls that close to a Great Horned. (PS There must be a vole/mouse problem in the area? :-) )
Honestly I think there are better options now... The new 180-400 is a lot sharper and a lot more expensive... If you are budget restricted, I would suggest getting the 200-500 and the 300 f4 PF instead of the 200-400
I bet you had great fun shooting these owls. Great shots Steve
Excellent Steve.
Jim
Very nice, I wish I had as much luck seeing owls when strolling threw the woods.
Well it has taken many years of hard work to get the luck! And I live in a magical place for wildlife...
I know I'm kind of off topic but does anyone know of a good website to stream new tv shows online ?
@Jefferson Luke I use flixzone. Just search on google for it =)
@Terrence Arturo Yea, I've been using FlixZone for months myself =)
@Terrence Arturo Thanks, I went there and it seems to work :D I really appreciate it !

Same here, they are rarely active in daylight.
I love that Great Horned Owl. Have only seen these owls in captivity. Wonderful that you know how to find them and go hunting with them. You have some great knowledge. Thanks for sharing with us.
Thanks!
Wonderful shots again Steve and that Great Horned Own is gorgeous.
Thanks! And yes it is.

Nice job! The first one is usually the hardest to find...
I'm with you on the whole natural perch thing. thanks for the videos.
👍
superb video again steve your so lucky to be able to get shots of owls although we have so many in the uk its very hard to find them let alone to see them hunting in a way you do
Thanks! Yes, I am lucky...
A good combination for walking around in the woods is the D500 with the 300 f/4 lens and TC-14E III. Super light and 450mm - 630mm!
I agree!
yep good work mate..... your photography and the compositions are beautiful
Thank you sir!
Nice video Steve, I keep on following you👍greetings from the Netherlands.
Thanks for watching!
Interesting video, and not only the owls, 300 prime is terrific but a zoom scoops up so many other opportunities.
Yep

Sweet, good luck with the barn owl, I’ve never photographed one but I’d love to someday!
Nice owls again, Steve. You know I like them a lot. Wish I would find as much as You do. But here in Germany, things are different. Love the 300 PF as well. Use it most of the time with the D7500. Cheers!
Cool, thanks for watching!
Lucky man Steve! Love your videos.
Yes I am... thanks!
Hey kids look--Big Ben-Parliament (of owls), sorry could not resist, did not know that about owls. Excellent images!
😬
Awesome trifecta.
👍
Great video Steve!
Thanks!
👍Love it!

Awesome, I’d love to photograph hawk owls someday! 👍
I'm curious why you like the Great Gray owls more than the Great Horned Owls. I enjoy watching your videos, and seeing the shots you get!
Thanks for watching! I’m really not sure, I just do?
Fair enough. :-)
Look like fun
👍

Thanks! Yes , the great grays are definitely more diurnal.

I wear orange if I'm in a place where hunting is allowed. Unless I forget😬
@@SteveMattheis I do have another question. How do you get to your car when you are owl searching? Do you have a special apt on your phone to bring you back to you car? Just curious.😎
We had a parliament of hooting owls one 4am morning. Sounded like something out of the twilight zone. Anyone else experience similar?
Another nice film Steve. That backlit flight away shot was very nice. The zoomed clip just before he flew was special...loved the intensity in his eyes. Were your zoom video clips shot on the 850? They are very detailed. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks! Yes, the D850

Yes, they will prey upon great grays and young great grays. So the great grays need to be cautious...
Steve you mentioned the Nikon 200-400m f4 lens. I am thinking about getting one. It would be my first telephoto. What is your opinion of the lens?
Honestly I think there are better options now... The new 180-400 is a lot sharper and a lot more expensive... If you are budget restricted, I would suggest getting the 200-500 and the 300 f4 PF instead of the 200-400
Great video. What’s the glove you are using. How can you take a pic with that one on
The buttons are big enough that I can wear gloves. These are made by Eddie Bauer.
amazing video mate
Thanks
nice work Steve! any good ones with the Great Horned owl?
Nope, it slept the whole time.
You need winter fly fishing gloves. You can take your fingers out
Thanks for the tip!
You ever got a photo of a mountain lion?
A few times but it’s very rare
Nice. Were they good photos?
