Fantastic time lapses, infrared shot, wildlife shots and videos. This film had it all. Though I'm a hunter, I'm with you on national park hunts. That's not really hunting when the animals are fairly habituated to human activity. But I don't know the answer to control populations. Oh well, another great video Steve!
Thanks! I don't know the answer either but it's total mayhem out there with 'hunters' herding the elk with their trucks, coordinating via radio and cell phone, shooting from the road, crossfire, etc. It's quite a scene (in a bad way).
Hi Steve. Just found your channel and love it! Such nice photos and so informative and entertaining at the same time. I’m wondering what vehicle you use to get around and shoot from? Also, I just got the new(ish) Tamron 100-400, have you tried it? Thanks! Looking forward to more great vids! 👍
Steve Mattheis thanks Steve. I just got mine. I’mjust an amateur weekend shooter and hoping I got a good one 😬. Thanks for replying and I did find your vid on it...
Yo Steve - I noticed that when you were shooting the Kingfisher with your 600mm that you had the VR off. Any tips on when you activate the VR or when you choose not to use it? Outstanding video as alway! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for your reply. I used to reflexively keep the VR activated but I've been experimenting with turning it off, and I like the results. Keep up the outstanding work!
hey Steve Great video per usual! love your style. I know you have your equip in the des below but what camera did you use to film that timelapse video with of that gorgeous teton sunrise?? I'm a landscape photographer and was thinking of doing this in addition to my stills. I'm moving to Slat Lake City in the coming months and looking forward to having the Teton's a 4 hour drive away. I'm in MI right now and have vacationed in the Tetons on 5 diff occasions. Cheers Steve
Thanks a bunch Steve, I'll give it a google run and review. but yeah that footage was exactly what the video needed. good call on setting it up. Those great greys are magestic, I smiled real big when seeing the flight shot. I have yet to get one in flight. here's my stuff if you want to see some pics from your backyard in Jackson captainstevephotography.zenfolio.com/ cheers my friend see ya out there in the coming years
*Blinks*, did *TH-cam* break the captions again ? Ah I see, they're kinda making TH-camr's do them manually now? That's got to be a PITA. So it's definitely not you Steve. :) Appreciate the extra work bub, keep at it :) ~Toronto~
Steve Mattheis I disagree with you, but I understand why you don't like hunting allowed in a National Park. I'm not a big fan myself, but the reasons for this one hunt sound like good common sense to me. I hope you are not one of the people who are just anti hunting.
I never understood trophy hunting. Doesn't that hurt the species? In the wild, it's usually the sick, weak, old, diseased, etc., that get taken out, not the best, most healthy and robust specimens. But, that's exactly what most hunting is; trying to kill the most genetically perfect animals. In my area, deer hunters don't want little sickly deer, they want the huge bulls with the biggest racks, etc. But if year after year hunters are selectively taking out the most genetically superior animals, isn't this hurting the population overall by taking the best and leaving the worst to breed?
Hi Steve, Great video! I am also, sick of hunters and how they justify it by saying they are helping keep down the populations so they have enough to eat. How could someone shoot such a beautiful animal just trying to eat and survive?
Sorry bud, but if you eat meat where does it come from? I would much rather have my meat come from a free range animal that lived its life outside the fences, and have to work to get that meat so you actually have a connection to your food then go to a grocery store and buy who knows what from who knows where....
So you can have a "connection to your food, wild animals have to die. Great response! Also, I don't agree with the way the animals are slaughtered for the meat markets either. But I am not looking for a debate on Steve's video comments.
Ok you just keep eating your stockyard slaughtered grocery meat, and whining about those who do it different, and I will enjoy my time out in the woods harvesting my own food and not give a dam about what you do
That I am lapse was epic!
Your opening sentence - is a statement and the action of all the inner man child in us, it had me tittering all the way through the video. Thanks
Yep, I'm embracing my inner child...

Cool, thanks for watching! I tried the Tamron, I made a video about it, look through my vids, i posted it in January.

If I’m on a stable platform (tripod or bean bag), I generally turn it off
Thanks for your reply. I used to reflexively keep the VR activated but I've been experimenting with turning it off, and I like the results. Keep up the outstanding work!
I'm curious if you've ever photographed from the top of Grand Tetons. The views would be spectacular.
I've been to the top of the Grand and Mt Moran but that was before I was a photographer....
Great video as usual Steve. Hunting has it's place, just not in a National Park. Don't think that's a good thing.
👍
Ha! I was out shooting photos of some Bald Eagles this weekend, and Shot an Eagle pooping. Natural Nature.
It's hard to resist...
Steve, curious about your beanbag and what brand it is, where you got it?
Do a google search for ‘big lens ultimate beanbag’ 👍
Good job, keep it up!
Thanks!

That one was with a Canon G7x II. I’ll also use a Nikon D500 and D850 sometimes but the Canon is small and simple to set up on the run.

Frustrated ram, close, but no cigar--better luck next time! Excellent images!
Yep, I"m sure he got some action eventually...
Great shots Steve, are hunters allowed to shoot close to public roads? If not thats gotta be the safest place for their prey..
Yes they are. I've seen them shooting from inside their vehicles, using their trucks as stabilizing supports, etc. It's crazy out there!
*Blinks*, did *TH-cam* break the captions again ? Ah I see, they're kinda making TH-camr's do them manually now? That's got to be a PITA. So it's definitely not you Steve. :) Appreciate the extra work bub, keep at it :) ~Toronto~
Hunting in a Natil Park???!!!! Unreal!!!
Yep, it's very odd.
It's more than odd. Should it be against the law, period!?
Steve Mattheis no it's not. Not this particular hunt, there is a great reason why...SMH.
I’m well aware of the ‘reasons’. I disagree with them.

Wow so much hate for hunting. I love your videos though!
Nah, just hate for this particular hunt in a National Park, which I think should be a sanctuary for wildlife. And trophy hunting - I hate that too.
Steve Mattheis I see, awesome videos!

wow so much hate for murdering wild animals! wow!
Mid November??? Why do you upload so late???
IDiveDeep perhaps he has other things that are more important than posting videos.

I am sick of idiots like you.
AND IN THIS CORNERRRRRRR!!!!! (with "Rocky" music playing in the background)
Fall hunters ruin fall for " normal" people that want to hike and enjoy wildlife. I love fall, I hate hunters.
Sorry, also I thought National parks were protected from hunting.
