    Wow, the colors are amazing! Thanks for the tips on how to make zinnias produce more blooms! All the colors growing near each other makes it look like a little fairyland - so pretty it's hardly real! Thanks Kim!

    Other than sunflowers zinnias are the only flowers that I have in my garden and I have so many different varieties and I have them planted all over my garden and along my fence line and I like to save the seeds so I get way more flowers the next time.

    They are so beautiful, and fun to grow! This is the first year I have grown them and they look awesome! I have a lot of pink ones and the other day, this huge gigantic butterfly was flying around them... But then my dog walked past and she has a pink collar exactly the same pink as the zinnias... So that butterfly went after her collar...lol! My poor 70 lb pitbull was scared half to death by the butterfly and it was sooo funny watching that big powerful dog running like crazy with her tail tucked between her legs from a butterfly!!! Lol!!! I wish I could have gotten it on video!!!

    Zinni is one of the most prolific flowers in my garden. As you said, the colors, shapes and sizes are so exciting. I have beds full of them both in my back and side yards. Unfortunately I don’t have much of a front yard.

    Just a tip for those collecting seeds- they are arrow shaped, and 2 different sizes. The disk floret seeds are much smaller than the seeds from the ray florets, and once the flower head is bone dry, you can confirm they are ready for harvest by the very dark brown color of the seeds. I don't know the accuracy of it, but I've heard that the ray florets are more likely to produce hybrid seeds, and the disc florets are more likely to be true to type. Great selection. Thanks for sharing! I learned a bit too late about pruning and each plant only grew one flower for me. Next year 😊

    If you grow several different types of zinnia together would the seed you save be true to the variety you are trying to save?

    • @CaliKim29
      @CaliKim29  12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      When you grow different types of zinnias (Zinnia spp.) together, especially different cultivars or varieties, there is a possibility of cross-pollination occurring between them. Zinnias are primarily pollinated by bees and butterflies, which can easily transfer pollen between different varieties if they are planted close together.
      it's recommended to isolate different zinnia varieties from each other. This isolation distance can vary depending on the specific variety and the pollinators in your area, but typically 50-100 feet is suggested for adequate isolation.
      Sorry for my delay - heck of a week. I hope this helps! Kim

    Can you save the seeds from the flowers you cut and bring in your house once they die and dry up?

    • @CaliKim29
      @CaliKim29  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Alaina, I am sorry for the delay in responding...Yes, you can save seeds from the flowers you cut and bring indoors once they have dried up.
      Let the flowers on your plants mature fully on the plant before cutting them.
      Once the flowers have dried up on the plant, carefully cut them from the plant. Make sure to handle them gently to avoid damaging the seeds inside.
      Hang the harvested flowers upside down in a warm, dry location with good airflow. Allow them to dry completely for several days
      Once the flowers are fully dry, gently shake or rub the flower heads to release the seeds. You may need to break apart the dried flower heads to access the seeds more easily. I hope this helps - Just remember to store them properly to maintain their viability. CaliKim

      I read advice to bottom water them of you grow in pots. But I'm not sure what to do about growing them in the garden 🤔. Sure you can be careful not to wet the flowers (including stem & leaves) when you water them, but you can't control the rain.

      In American English, which I speak, the post in compost is said exactly the same as the word post. In the UK and Australia I know that they pronounce it differently. But I would expect him to say compost the American way as I believe she does
