I've learned more from your video than I did watching a ton of others. Not only do you show and tell how to start breeding meal worms and super worms, but you give a lot of do's and don't and tips on solving problems we might encounter during the breeding process. Thanks so much for sharing. I just started breeding and I must say your information helped me so much. Thanks!

@@NORTHERNEXOTICS A good Tip is, to put a bit of Soil into that Cups, this prevents them to dry out and will speed up the process entirely, also this would happen in nature, they dig down 10-30 cm in the soil.

My beetles would not breed or make eggs for such a long time...last saturday I gave them fur decoration in their tub...the next day the fur is covered in small eggs! I could not be happier! Great video❤

I thought he kept saying "moisture sauce" and assumed it was a coloquial reptile/bug term, maybe a UK thing? 🤷🏼‍♀️ ...And then I realized he was saying "moisture source." Hahaha. 🤣
I ordered 1000 superworms from a local bug breeder, they're arriving tomorrow!! I'll be feeding out a bunch, but I'm totally going to start my own superworm colony. Thanks for your very helpful videos!
Curious who/what is chowing down on my superworms? ...chickens! 🐔 The most doted-on backyard chickens ever.

I'm so glad i watched this video!!! I raise mealworms and black solders flys and getting ready to raise crickets. I have some superworms in 1 oz cups but didn't realize it will need more darkness, so i will find a shoebox, but i didn't know about them escaping and need a top. I was going to raise them like mealworms ! Thank you for this video!!!

I have have 98% pupation rate with a black cup with a clear top and a darkened room with no dead ones. It doesn't need to be pitch black. Not disturbing them or moving them once there in the cup is also very key. Picking the biggest, longest and fattest ones increases your pupation rate. Pick the right ones and it becomes easier. If they shed in the cup and they are light colored worm they go back into the worm population. Getting them access to water right away when they become a beetle when their walking good is also good.

Several are already curling up, ready to pupate.

Thanks for the suggestion on the increased substrate to better prevent cannibalism! Is there a general guess on how much substrate to provide for the beetle population like 1 cup of bran per beetle or something?

there's still one thing though which i'm unsure about. If i put a superworm into a separate container and it sheds after few days, does it mean it's too young to turn into a beetle and i should put him back to the common tank with food, or just let him go through his stages of life?

I'm learning about this and one thing some videos are skipping is the idea that you have to put holes in the containers. Otherwise, the insect can't get air to breathe to stay alive. Now it may be something so trivial that most people trying this already know to do that, but I guess from my perspective as a person newly learning about this, and many videos saying "just put the superworm in the condiment container", without saying "a container that has a hole in the lid for air to pass through" , then I also don't know how many others might be using lids without holes.

And what are the optimal day and night-time temperatures please? It's just that I use controls (for temperature, humidity and carbon dioxide) for growing mushrooms and so it's a short step to provide optimal environments for these chaps. I hope . . .

    @steveschindler2802 ปีที่แล้ว

Do you have any idea what the humidity is in your room where you keep your farm. I have found that the biggest problem, for me at least, was keeping the humidity up in the egg containers and the beetle containers while they were laying and also the worm tubs with tiny babies. Before I started putting a lid on my tubs I wouldn't get any babies. As soon as I started covering my tubs I got babies galore. I think the eggs and tiny babies were drying out. The trick is finding the sweet spot. Too much ventilation and it dries out, not enough and it molds the substrate. You addressed this somewhat in the tiny worm tubs by grating the banana and spreading the moisture source out. I've contacted several you tubers who raise supers and most of them who say they have great success have there worms somewhere where the humidity stays between 50 and 60% naturally so it stands to reason they are having success. People see these videos and think they can keep their supers in open tubs just like their mealworms and that is fine if your humidity is high enough but if it low like mine (37% today) you might need to figure out a way to raise it. No one seems to address this issue.
Still, very good tips. If your humidity is naturally higher your success rate is going to be much better and you may not even give it a second thought.

Would like to ask why my baby worm die-off in the middle process of growing. They just turned black hidden under the vegetable I fed them.

What would happen if keep them in one place and keep feeding them? Will they die simply as super worms? Or would they turn into beetles?

Make sure that it's not meal worms your trying to grow . Meal worms and super worms are diffrent species. But a good diet. Heat and moisture and time

@@NORTHERNEXOTICS I am sure its super worm. How much time they need to grow big enough?

I literally put them in a clear bin with about 2" of oat bran, throw in carrots or other juicy veggies daily, and they turn into tons of beetles, and great superworms. I wasn't sure what the dead ones looked like, so I didn't want to throw out pupating beetles/worms. I guess when they're black, they're dead. It gets stinky sometimes, so I don't know if it's musk or dead ones, that's why I wanted to watch a vid on it.
