JD, I just found your channel a few months ago and I love watching your videos. Short unimportant question: you mention that you use lighter fluid to dissolve the gummed-up goo. I believe the fluid used in wick-style lighters is mostly naptha. Have you ever tried Coleman camping fuel? I used to use it to clean up headstocks from old watchmaker's lathes, and it works well. I don't honestly know, but it might be another naptha-based compound.

Yes, I have used naphtha before in fact to clean clocks. I find lighter fluid more accessible and easier to distribute small amounts. Thanks for watching my channel by the way I did put some more stuff on this morning. I apologize for the flight simulator stuff :-)

Good day JD, I too am the proud owner of a very expensive / resilient Swiss plastic stick. I am curious aboot (Canadian for about) how much material you took off the balance cock holder "tower" and did you also have to take material off the threaded stem it rides on?

To be honest, I can’t recall, but it wasn’t much maybe an eighth of an inch. Just buy one from aliexpress.com and measure where that holder needs to be if you’re talking about the gold looking holder that I have, I did put the piece of faux leather on the top as well and I did increase the size is a hole in the top so it would fit most roller tables, and therefore most balances.

The tapered slot at the back is for gently levering off the balance cock.

lloks like someone changed the one screw that holds the jewel in place, so jewel is cocked..
