I own a 2014 Genesis sedan and still to this day haven't had any reliability issues whatsoever and my wife had one when we lived in the USA before we bought our current one and never had any issues either. Very reliable underrated luxurious cars, I would recommend you all test drive one.

GV80 best design and quality. Today my wife learn to drive GV80 and when I was outside stranger look at her car in Gold Coast Silver and say many rude words of admiration :”Oh fck its beautiful car! Very beautiful..” And I’m look to it with him and say him “yeah its a new top Hyundai” and He say “if it really Korean I’m impressed very much looks like something very expensive, how much is it” -85000$
“Oh shit expensive car... but it very beautiful”
I say him thanks and go to car and we ride away.
Many many enthusiastic looks. Design very good!

In most comparison videos, most car reviewers tend to lean towards one car more than the other and it’s usually pretty obvious early on in the comparison which car they are going to recommend. You forgot to mention the GV80 has soft closed doors, suede headliner, adaptive suspension, double pane windows, active noise cancelling, better sound system. I'd rather have all that and cooled seats/power shades. The thing I do like in the VW...is the tech...that's about it tho. Genesis for its luxury, originality, fit/finish, materials, features and design. VW for me only wins on tech...otherwise it's more basic, functional, solid (not bad, but just VW status quo).

    Own a 4mth old GV80 3.6 V6 x 6 seats with center rear control console.
Done 15,000 k's already as our tour car & we have done some massive distances.
    Top of Oz to bottom.
Still can't stop smiling as a brilliant car to tour in. 0nly nagging concern as we are often on very remote roads is that there is no spare. A tyre repair self inflating kit.
My only negative comment as a proud owner. Get asked often all about it as very new out there. One look inside & all blown away. Had 3 x Rangies 2 x from new & no longer concerned about break downs nor suoer expensive fixes. Looked at the VW but found it clunky & outdated in comparison. If thinking about a GV80 don't simply buy it & wear a smile. No I am not flogging Genesis but it does deserve a big hooray.

I drive a Touareg now with the space saver tyre, but I've always carried a great small 12V air compressor (not the VW compressor) for flat tyre moments, rather than change the tyre and that'll get me to a garage/tyre dealer. @@chasingcars thanks for the response, that’s good to hear. Perhaps a question for Genesis, but do they use a ‘run flat’ tyre system - or have a manufacturers recommendation for one for this vehicle? Researching the no spare tyre problem a bit, I found some obscure posts in US based genesis owners forums where people say that there’s an optional roadside repair kit option for the up-spec models - and the base spec model in the 5 seater has an emergency spare. I guess potential buyers will need to check on this with Genesis. Last question, 10k on the road, how are the front tyres wearing? I find the awd SUV’s to be tough on front tyres, so need to be diligent with rotating them. Is the gv80 any different to the pack on this topic?

Genesis seems to be like the Lexus of the 1990's; revolutionary cars then, and went straight for the Germans' throats. People laughed, then Lexus took over. Lexus has lost it way since the early 2000's. Current gen Lexus' are just a bit boring and just an evolution to keep up, barely. Save for the LC, and possibly the new IS, the entire line is just not what they should be. Genesis has aimed again for the Germans and IMO have made that match super close. I'd pick a Genesis over an LX anyday. Better styling, more features, great power and hopeful reliability. The design and quality of manufacture is right up there. Lexus needs to again revolutionise their lineup to be able to compete with the ever growing want of SUVs....you see LS's from the early 1990's at a million miles or more....current gen ones just won't last to that point sadly. Genesis has hit the nail on the head. The Toureg is an excellent SUV and has come a long way....missing the WAS that was once available, but if they can reign in their dismal reliability, they'd get far more buyers...and build quality needs way more attention. For $125k give or take should have soft touch materials all the way down the doors, dash and console. And with the sheer amount of tech, we all know German tech is great to start and no rattles and low nvh. But these change dramatically over time. European cars just don't age as well as the once did. I'd never keep a Euro car past its warranty, ever.

If you're going to compare the Touareg to the Genesis, which is strictly focused on luxury, then why would you go with the sporty version of the Touareg? All black everything in the R line makes it look alot more dull in comparison.

No spare wheel is a deal breaker. If you get a flat from a nail in a 22inch tyre , instead of a nice cheap easy repair you instead have to write the entire tyre off if you have to use the useless tyre goo. Shame as it looks like a great package otherwise.

Hmmm, still can’t get onboard with the Genisis’ styling, nice interior quality. Wouldn’t hassle anyone for going the GV80 but I personally would buy the VW, I really like the stying bar the wheels don’t fuss me much, at this level I’m not that bothered by the lower hard plastics but that said if it’s competition has better quality throughout VW should really wake up a bit and do better in the future, I really like the innovision cockpit set up, one of the best presented fully digital setups, looks stunning to me.
