Have a 2 plate version (different make) at home which we use to do all our cooking on. When you've finished just let it cool & put it away. Saved me cutting a massive whole in my lovely wooden work surface and leaves a nice big area for other uses when not cooking. I would highly recommend them.

Very neat - it looks the same size as my butane cartridge one from my emergency kit - which is now also going in the van. I have a single ring portable induction hob to use on hookup - its a bit bigger than that unit - it will boil the kettle in the same time my electric kettle boils at home - which is the same as the butane cartridge one. I like them as they can both be taken outside to cook and it gives me 2 different options depending on where we are. Lots of vans in the US have an induction hob now, great if you have solar and a big enough battery bank/inverter, as the running costs are then free.

Nice looking piece of kit. Good to see it worked OK on your 'hook up', especially as I have copied your idea, but I have fixed the unit in place and connected it to a hook up point on side of my van (more cost effective than buying a van consumer unit). So, yes please 'I want one'... :-)

Pro tip of the day: Watts=Voltage * Amps. This rewrites to Amps=Watts / Voltage. So 1500W divided by 230V is 6,5 Amps. :D

Paleontologitwo Yes, but if using an inverter don’t forget the losses involved in running the inverter: converting 12v to 230v. Running this in winter on solar is impractical . Backups are good of course but a small multi-fuel camping stove would be a much better solution or just buys cheap gas camping stove with a canister that works fine.

Looks a neat bit of kit that, we're usually on hookup when we go away so that'd be perfect and save us some gas as we only cook in the awning on the Halfords portable camping stoves. Ideal for a cuppa as you've expertly demonstrated 😍😎👍🏻

I don't want one Dave lol the last double hotplate one I had at home burnt my worktop bad. Mine got very hot underneath cooking strews etc so beware of where it sits, laminated surfaces or glass may be a no no.

The only thing I would say is, if your pans are suitable, an induction hob is just as cheap, maybe more efficient and doesn't heat the plate (although, you might want that)

I been saying for a while now that I reckon that gas will struggle to be an energy source in the team future as more campervans go gas free and have completely free solar powered energy which this cooking plate will allow them to do
I live in a car and didn't want a gas flame in a car etc but electric plate would work but I haven't cooked in about 30 years as I eat on the go etc but I am tempted to buy one but would need solar to power it etc
