Yo brother thanks for your very informative video. I bought a "spector" induction cooktop from ebay and that pos makes my 3k inverter shut down from the spikes! Just ordered this same model "tokit" from their website, $177 delivered (from China, I expect). Also, I was speaking with a sparky today at work and he reckons those on-off spikes are really reducing the life of your inverter, battery, switches and everything connected to the device. Seems like a no-brainer to pay the extra $120 or so to prolong the life of your far more expensive devices.
Well done fella that's interesting, good insight, cheers for that im sure alot of camping guys will appreciate your time bringing us this information 👍
Cheers. I'm hoping to get my hands on another version which I expect has the same internals but in a different form factor. But I won't know till I get it. Fingers crossed. I'll also have a look at a 12v air fryer which should be turning up soon. So hopefully that subby is worth it 😁
Thank you my Friend, what an amazing review of the Tokit unit!!! I just got mine today shipped from China (about 2 weeks) $120 free shipping. This is for sure the MackBook Air of Induction Cookers! Thanks Again 👍👍👍
We've been using one of these as our main cooktop at home for a few months now and generally love it. Finally figured out how to add a preset for temperature so that we can use it in the truck without wifi and the app (it's great for deep frying all the fish I can't catch).
Really appreciate this review, I've been going down the same rabbit hole with induction cooktops for camping. Been using the Kmart option, which does work fine, but wanted consistant wattage than the on/off.
sup snoop. sounds like you're exactly where I was. The on/off thing just makes it hard at lower temps to cook right. good to hear of another happy kmart cooker customer. Cant beat them for the price.
Dude! This was an excellent review. Very, very knowledgeable. I was about to make the mistake you described. I have a Jackery 500, now looking for an induction cooker at 1000 watts max. Thank you.
You are correct i bought a smaller induction cook top.i thought my 1000 watt inverter would be about to power it in the 600 watt setting. Just as you said it demanded more watts than my inverter could put out. So i upgraded the inverter in my RV.
Good presentation. Have been using the TOKIT Mk 1 for a year now in my Sprinter Van. Power it from a 200 amp lithium battery and a 2000 watt Renogy inverter, works well for me.
I live in the UK where you can draw 3kW from the wall so there is little incentive to sell lower power induction tops. In the US a 15a 110 or 120v outlet is common and I have seen dual ring induction hobs that seem to share power intelligently so you can use one to boil and the other simmer at a lower setting though either ring can output 1500w if used on its own - neat for use in a RV etc. Another option would be to use a standalone ~250W rice cooker to simmer e.g. potatoes/rice/pasta from a power-limited supply.
Have you had trouble with tripping the circuit protector? I see the Jackery 1000 has a 9.09A AC output. I’d assume the induction cooktop is needing 11-15amps. I’ve tried the Tokit on a Bluetti EB3A (600w surge to 1200w) with a 250VAC/10a circuit protector which tripping after a few seconds at the lowest heat setting. Any thoughts/guidance is appreciated
I dont believe the 9.09 wouldn’t be an issue on the 240v side as that should equate out to about 2200w. A normal power 240v gpo is rated at 10amps. The Tokit is rated upto 2100w The 2 restricting issues I see is the inverter rating and battery rating trying to run it. The inverter on here is rated to 1000w and 2000 peak, find most batteries and inverter can peak for upto 30sec so fluctuations would not bother it much running under half power. Yours would be more limited by these requirements and frankly any of these battery options are not ideal and depending on what your power needs are not worth it for a induction stove, gas would be cheaper. It looks like this battery was used mainly for testing having a shunt built in to supply the data in the comfort of the house, i would do the same. It does show it will run with limitations, power output and how long. I run a large 12v system to run our caravan aircon so do like to use one and will be buying one of these. With a 3000w inverter and >800 amps of available power plus solar its not a issue but i still have gas as my main cooking.
Have you thought about a multivolt system with your second battery install? I'm sure you're across the advantages, lower current draw, less voltage losses, thinner wire, basically a more efficient system. Though you would need 12-24 DCDC/ MPPT chargers and inverter as well. So that might be a pain. Drawing 250+ amps from 12v just to run induction/coffee makers and air fryers from a 12v system is just going to cause long term drama. I'm looking at 48v systems, instead of having to power a 3KW inverter with 120mm² cable, you can get the same voltage loss using 10mm² cable at 48v! I've got a nuwave induction cooktop, I'll have to test the current draw on lower settings to see what it's doing.
So I quickly tested the Nuwave. 612w on the 900w setting, 1435w on the 1500w setting and only about 1460w on the 2000w setting. I might have to get a larger pot.....
Sup Si, bit slow on the get back. If I was starting again I'd defo go 24v at least but I'm so invested in the 12v gear that Im kinda stuck.....kinda Although my renogy 300W inverter popped its cork. It took a hit from 24v from a faulty victron solar controller. My fault really. so with black friday on I ordered another. It came with a broken park (only plastic, didnt effect it working) so I went through warranty. they offered a partial refund or a replacement so I took the replacement. The good news, they told me I dont need to send the other one back. took them some time but happy with that result to have a spare now.
@@DENMONKEY you've now got another to experiment with! The Nuwave is a bit of an odd shape, though while not cheap, I think it is the best and most versatile of the current offerings. Anyway I've picked up a decent 3D printer, so I might make a mount!

If that is an Xaomi app I read somewhere it is pronounced 'show-er-me' but may be wrong. Otherwise looking at anything low power for cooking and this induction cooker looks promising. Been using the Allpwrs R600 Power Station and so far so good, has a 600W inverter and a 300Wh battery. *Edit - re Tokit - mine arrived yesterday. Set it up in the house and it seems to work well. Yet to try it on the R600 but I think it will be fine. Pos 20 about 575 Watts. *Update - tried it on the R600 and it worked fine up to pos 17 around 350 Watts. Peaking up to 725 Watts using a Woolies $16 30cm Mint non stick induction frypan.
Oh, I knew I was gonna be way off on the pronunciation :) I'm glad you got who i was talking about. good to hear yours is working for you. I just need to figure out how to mount it in the 4wd so those fan holes on the side arent obstructed. I would like it built in but maybe I just need to store it somewhere and just pull it out when needed. it is very thin, so wont take up much space. hmmm

Wow the buzzing sounds are from the electromagnetic fields that the induction coils generate when they are being used, microphones (and some speakers) are very sensitive to those magnetic fields and they are recorded as that buzzing sound.
That's right. The obviously generate a broad field to ensure transfer to the pan or pot. Combine that with mics etc that are poorly shielded for such things and that's the result. I find i get similar results and microwaves too
The Westinghouse Portable Twin Induction Cooktop WHIC02K $239 is the one 4WD's choose, would be interested if it has the pulsing problem at lower settings, the good thing is it has a wattage readout for each burner, the temp and bluetooth ability of this tokit cooktop does not interest me, I have a full Bluetooth 12V setup in my Ranger, but needing bluetooth just to use a cooktop is too far, I will stick with my Bosch Induction, works fine.Yes you are correct home induction cooktops, the cheaper units suffer from bad control at simmer.
Do the old fashioned electric hot plates run on a smooth power curve ? I need a low draw induction but if it keeps peaking every few seconds, that will trip the inverter.
This is exactly what I’m looking for. The tinkering, multiple quick tests. None of the bullshit we get where they just show the damned cook top boiling at max. We need people testing the low power modes. My only worry is losing a lot of the functionality once they break app support. But hey, looks nice and works at least.
havent noticed one as such but there would be something. the trick is to set a custom setting through the app of 1% and then use that to start up. Ive managed to use the manual setting which starts on 30 for me and just quickly turn the dial down and that works ok.

Nuwave gold. Bigger heating coil. Select 900,1500 or 2000 wats. It uses constant power rating so much more stable. Set it to 900w and it got as high as 920 max, 1500 was 1512 and 2000 was 1995 or so.
Would've been interesting to see when the Jackery overloaded. Guessing it's around 40% Appreciate the video, tried the cheaper Xiaomi and it immediately overloaded my 1000w Bluetti unfortunately. Tokit looks like the way.
I didn’t get past the T&Cs of the Tokit induction cooker app (Mi Home), when an app says it can gather information on your wifi ssid and wifi password I’m OUT. Annoying because half the functions of the induction cooker are now locked up behind the app I can’t/wont use.
I want this, but wondering since I am in the USA might my cooking results be different because the USA model might be underpowered compared to a UK AU model? A USA home circuit is 15A x 120V = 1800W . Your Mains i think are 13A x 230V = 2990W . I bought a DUXTOP dual burner unit and it was like trying to cook a steak with a burner on med low. It boils water great, but the cooking diameter is very small and cast iron does not distribute heat as well as copper. SO you could preheat the cast iron to scorch. then remove the steak and preheat to get the right browning on the other side, but you would have the clean the pan in between . But overall cooking a steak on low heat produces a less tender result. However, I could buy a dual mains voltage MARINE 3000W inverter that does both USA an UK voltage..... . All apple stuff can be charged on USB--C and their mains wall warts are compatible with USA and UK voltages. SO perhaps I just need a UK inverter..and buy a UK instapot and UK induction.. Your thoughts???
yeah you sure can but im not sure if you could without doing the registration first. surely.....but who knows. and yes you're right . i hate that stuff .
I'd be fine with the app but why the f... do they require an ACCOUNT and INTERNET? You know, all of this control could have been done through the Bluetooth.
a cordless microwave you say :) I'll go suss them out . yeah, the stanley cookset I got not long ago is nice and thick and works well but it's stainless and I'm struggling to come to grips with it . everything sticks and ive tried seasoning it serveral times. Im just not very good at it.
Awesome review mate. Exactly the type of induction cooktop I have been looking for with out the pwm type of control. The fan and the app is a bit of a killer though. Hopefully more of these type of cooktop are released onto the market.
I might have missed it, but what are the specs of your Jackery lithium power station? I’ve just bought an iTech500p 50AH power station, and am now wondering if will cope with my iKea portable induction top (2000w).
its the jackery 1000 pro explorer. so 85ah odd capacity and 1000W inverter. Only one way to find out. stick it in and give it a try. I'm gonna say probably not but you never know your luck in the big city
reckon the weird noise you’re picking up with the camera mic is the induction magnetic field itself based on the frequency and when it turns on and off
Yes definitely is. I should check and see what sort of range it has. It did sound very sci fi. Half expecting aliens to land in my back yard when it was on.
No, you only need to do that initially for the account(which I despise) . For setting up the favourites you will still need the app though. So best to set it up at home, then you're good to just use the device on its own.
Bloody good review! I used a Kmart and Breville one while my kitchen was retting renovated, the high powered cycling was a bloody nightmare, trying to simmer something without it splattering food all over the place was nearly not achievable. Can you confirm that once your set it up on initial with a phone, that from there on in your phone is no longer required? I don't need any pre-set stuff or even temperatures, just on and throttle control.
Yeah that's what bothered me too. Once set up you don't need the phone. I'm fact you may be able to get around the phone altogether even for set up but I didn't try so can't confirm. The only thing you can't do with out the phone would be set a temp but you do have the 99 power settings. You could also set a few up and save them to it for use without the phone.
I went down this dark hole a while ago, and gave up. I started with a 100amp battery and no matter what I did the battery would drop off. Spoke to the battery company and they said no, you’ll need 2 100amp batteries. Still wouldn’t work. Turned out that the maximum continuous load was 50amps per battery. Considering the induction cook top was 1800 watts it was never going to work with just two batteries. I actually need 4 x 100 amp batteries. I’ve moved over to Itechworld world and it’s all good now!
There's definitely traps to catch you going down this route. I'm guessing you're sales guy didn't know about the limitation of his batteries. As lithium matures it sure is improving and the same goes with solar. What are you using now to cook with?
Just received a tokit there is no need for app. works on heat dial alone on 240v AC , but I tested on my 1000w/ 2000 burst inverter + 100AH lithium ( never used in anger yet ) and tripped even on lowest setting may not be up to the task :( Will try again after a full charge.
@@LiveAnotherDay24 No tried a few times seems the battery trips out from low voltage within a few seconds of startup sadly. a much bigger battery possible 240Ah may be the answer though.

It's still there and I do love just me, the dog and a fire but this stuff keeps me entertained playing with it at home when I can't do that 😁 I'm just happy to be doing it regardless. I'll put this question to you then. Do you have a mobile phone? 😁
I am fully electric camping. Once you are set up, fully electric is far, far simpler than gas. Kettle, toaster, fry pan, all too easy. I can boil a quick kettle on the side of the road for a quick coffee - any time, any wind, and total fire ban. All too easy. $7 automatic toaster works great too.

According to Amazon its 2100W for UK and AU ...but i bet the USA version is a 1800W one.
Can you use the stovetop without a phone? Ridiculous to have to download their app and give them your location to cook a meal
yeah you sure can but im not sure if you could without doing the registration first. surely.....but who knows. and yes you're right . i hate that stuff .
Yep, my first thoughts as well. Having to register/install an app to use a Cook Top is ridiculous and makes this definite no go for me.
The TOKIT cooks just fine - just like a gas burner - without wifi or an app. Just no temp control withou the app, but...meh.
I'd be fine with the app but why the f... do they require an ACCOUNT and INTERNET? You know, all of this control could have been done through the Bluetooth.
I feel like I'm watching a GEICO commercial.
Makita has a cordless microwave.
Should have a look.
Pan thickness makes a difference with induction.
a cordless microwave you say :) I'll go suss them out . yeah, the stanley cookset I got not long ago is nice and thick and works well but it's stainless and I'm struggling to come to grips with it . everything sticks and ive tried seasoning it serveral times. Im just not very good at it.
Awesome review mate. Exactly the type of induction cooktop I have been looking for with out the pwm type of control. The fan and the app is a bit of a killer though. Hopefully more of these type of cooktop are released onto the market.
Excellent explanation thank you
I might have missed it, but what are the specs of your Jackery lithium power station? I’ve just bought an iTech500p 50AH power station, and am now wondering if will cope with my iKea portable induction top (2000w).
its the jackery 1000 pro explorer. so 85ah odd capacity and 1000W inverter. Only one way to find out. stick it in and give it a try. I'm gonna say probably not but you never know your luck in the big city
reckon the weird noise you’re picking up with the camera mic is the induction magnetic field itself based on the frequency and when it turns on and off
Yes definitely is. I should check and see what sort of range it has. It did sound very sci fi. Half expecting aliens to land in my back yard when it was on.
so am i gonna need wifi to use this, what if im in the outback will i be able to use it
No, you only need to do that initially for the account(which I despise) .
@@DENMONKEY Excellent, thanks mate!!
39:25 .... you really need to control your kids ! hahahaha . Great vid . cheers
Good video thanks.... Subscribed!
I am interested to know if you finally get it work? I have similar battery and inverter with you.
@@LiveAnotherDay24 No tried a few times seems the battery trips out from low voltage within a few seconds of startup sadly. a much bigger battery possible 240Ah may be the answer though.
the big question .. have you had it out in the wild yet ? how did it perform
great video by the way
@DENMONKEY
You'll have to show us the chocolate and strawberry test on it . The temperature test on it looks promising tho.
Definitely on the to test list George. I gotta tell ya when you're trying to impress a lady with chocolate and strawberries, burnt chocolate doesn't get you many points. So I really need to sort it quick smart 😁
Looks promising 😊
I'm pretty happy with it 😁
Thanks for sharing 👍😎
Thanks for commenting as always
Good informative vid as usual.👍
I reckon the strawbs and chocolate would illicit more wanker comments than the techie stuff. Have you done a coffee pod machine yet?
everyone has played nice so far, but I'm waiting. No coffee machine Nige, not a coffee drinker, so at least I can save money on something
Just ordered one. The dune one I brought is junk. It duty cycles on anything under about 1200 watts
Yeah I hate it when they do that.
im really ater a decent cooktop and this looked great until it wants your phone to link up with it ...seriously im glad i dont have much longer to live becasue i swear in a few years time we will have to register each sheet of dunny paper before we use it and fill in a form saying what we had for dinner yesterday.
Yeah everything wants your information these days. I hate that as much as i hate force subscriptions and self serve check outs
@@DENMONKEY i think im just gonna stick with fire cooking or tiny gas burner cooking or use my trangia ... am looking at one of those collapsible cookpots for maybe rice pastas soups .. i just ordered one of those allpower power station thingys and im just not technical enough to bother with all the math or study on voltage wats apps etc. I wish there where more aussie reviews on simple easy to use compact items we can use with the power stations while camping or just travelling... with products we can actually purchase here...so many chanels with so much gear u cant even get shipped here or the shipping price is outrageous....
The sound is coming from the induction hub, because it's alien technology
❤
Has anyone in the USA used this successfully without starting a fire? From what Iunderstand it is only designed for 100 volts Japanese current.
Nah that’s not true, works fine on UK 240v. Could be different country specific versions though so not sure about the USA model
What ever happened to KISS when camping. Each to their own I suppose 😮
I think I stumbled upon an insurance ad with that little annoying gecko lizard.
Good info but this video didn't have to be 47 minutes.
As soon as it asked for wifi, it would have been sent straight back. No need for it in a cooktop
Whats with all the yelling and screaming going on ? You were talking about heating chocolate with a full on domestic going on inside. Nice review.
Neighbours kids in the pool next door. You want em?
@@DENMONKEY 😳🤔🤣
Instant Pot > Induction cooker.

yeah that having to sing up for things tokit or otherwise, really really shits me
Yikes, can't believe you need a sketchy app to just have a cook top on. Crazy how gatekeepy stuff is these days.
I hate that part of it..shits me to tears
Seriously? A wifi enabled induction cooker? WTF? It's the LAST thing I'd purchase. In fact I'd NEVER purchase such a device. What a waste of time.
Lol, being a pain, why hype it up? there is much better stuff out there.
I'm listening
What stuff?
Too many words
What a crap app !! Or is that because you are using a crappy android phone ?
