It's not a big deal to remove the skid plate, but I just leave it on and change the filter from up top, resting a cut milk jug under to catch the oil. Definitely getting one of those quick twist drain plugs now though.
Nice work. I buy the 5 qt jugs; maybe less waste on empty boyyles? And I love my MityVac for top side services! Again, nice work. Our 2001 Tundra is just getting broke in at 212K.
Agreed. Now 5 qt jug is way less expensive. I considered the Mityvac but myself I would empty the oil into a container and take it for recycling. Valvomax container saves me that step. But overall it maybe about the same effort
Amazon Basics has the best price? Have you compared it to Walmart Super Tech or Costco Kirkland? They all come from the same place. Surely your driveway has a slope to it. Are you sure the dip-stick reading is accurate with the vehicle in the driveway?
Thanks for your comments. Yes my driveway has a slope . When I checked my oil it was just under the top notch. On a flat surface, it reads right at the top notch. Tundra 2005-6 report the same amount on the Toyota forums. I switched over to Amazon basics a few years ago when I went full synthetic. At the time, the price always lower than WM and other places at $23 for 6 quarts. It’s up $3 currently. Best thing is that it come in 6, one quart bottles. Great because I have to put in 6 plus quarts each time and have spare 1 quart bottles. Thanks
In like 1981 I was sitting in metals class thinking about a better way to get the oil out of an engine and not all over my hands and the ground.....by the end of '82 at the local VoTech (vocational technical school) machine trades (machinist) program for high schoolers, I had designed this same sort of thing. Had I only known then what I've just seen now. I don't want to even look up how long this has been around and available to the common man. I just realized that I was ahead of my time.....I think....maybe ?
The skid plate can be cut (modified) from the drivers side to allow access to the filter without removing the plate. Also punch a hole in the filter before unscrewing to drain most oil from the filter.
Quite neighborhood for sure.

Skid plate thanks.
Thanks ! I'm ordering quick change!
Great. I love it

Any thoughts about changing the valve cover gaskets? If not, why not?
That’s on my to do list
