Dillon’s tastebuds must have been tainted by Dutch’s taint. Was lucky to find a row of this on the shelf of my local liquor store. I have drank thru half the bottle and would be a repeat buyer for sure. Agree it is silly/unfair to compare it to the barrel strength EC. I would buy over Woodford double oak which is similar.
With regard to this vs the barrel proof, this makes a much better any-time drinker. I’ve got two barrel proofs, and while I like them, it’s not every day that I want to reach for 130-ish proof. So while the barrel proof may be “better” from a side-by-side comparison, I’m reaching for toasted barrel over the barrel proof 4 days out of 5, because who wants to drink liquid fire every day?
Wayyy late on this as I just recently discovered your all’s channel. You guys are hilarious. This friendship banter really shines on screen. Haha I actually just early this year got to get a bottle of this and I was not a big fan on first pour (forgot to pour the neck pour). It had this weird off putting wine essence to it. It was weird. But after this sat for a couple weeks or so it really opened up. Sweet, marshmallow-y, nice mouth feel and a really good version of small batch EC. I can kind of see both sides on this one. Still doesn’t blow my mind even after it opened up and there’s just no way in hell I’m grabbing one of these over an ECBP. Thanks for the review, boys!
I loved my bottle of this. It was my daily till empty..... haven’t found another bottle yet. That being said it is not ECBP, & truthfully I think that comparison is apples and oranges!

Disagree. If you’re going to drink every day, and you had only those two choices, you’re saying you’d pick barrel proof most days? No, 130-ish proof is an adventure, not a daily drinker. I have both and I reach for this far more often, because 130-ish proof is not what one reaches for most days.

The Barrel Proof is the best. This was just mild marshmallow candy. BP is complex and each release is different and unique. If the toasted changes each release I may change my view.
I really enjoyed this, and I got it for around $55 out the door. Marking this up to $100+ is just dumb, but there are a lot of dumb people out there marking bourbon up and even dumber people paying the markups. Here’s a hint: if you stop paying the markups, prices will come back to msrp. I compared this side-by-side with 1910 and woodford double. 1910 easily won, and this came in second. Woodford double is very tasty but kinda one-dimensional.

I found this to be strangely too sweet and maybe a tad overwhelming. Definitely above and beyond all the toasted barrel though, including the overhyped michter. I prefer single barrel offerings more and more now, and all these double triple stuff is getting out of hand.

Picked this up for $60 at a random liquor store in Glendale, Ca. The lowest I have seen Michters Toasted Bbl is $250 in a store. So I haven’t compared those two. I prefer ECTB to OF 1910 (it’s close) and also to Woodford Double Oak.
i thought this was too sweet. Pass. I'd rather just drink barrel proof 12 year. You get the oak, sweet etc and secondary prices of this thing right now is prohibitive. Barrel proofs are sold at lower price than this where i'm at.

I cant find this anywhere in southern CA. I was on vacation in Laughlin NV saw it and it was selling for $90, too overpriced for a small batch variant I thought. However my interest is piqued if I see it for $80 or under I’ll buy it. Thanks for the great review. Love your differing opinions, helps to really analyze these bottles. Also you guys are hilarious!
Its taste reminds me of a Speyside Scotch. Balvenie or Aberlour but you get a much different profile on the nose, much more of the usual notes associated with Kentucky. Definitely unique for a Bourbon.

Do them blind DILLON. ECTB stomps on all other toasted barrels. Why bring up barrel proof when it's not even in that category.

I choose the TB over the BP. The BP is good but the toasted barrel flavor is more delicious imo. Cheers

We all know ECBP is one of the king's of bourbon will buy all day. But the toasted barrel is not bad it more if a fall/winter dram for me.

This is an excellent option in my eyes. Don't know why more whiskey tubers don't.
