Man people are way too hard on Aya's date at the Opera, dude just witnessed dozens of people get murdered and everyone's calling him out for not holding it together
Probably that's just because people compare him to Aya's composed and serious attitude when all that happened, though I would think it has to do with the fact that she's a police officer, that' why she manages to remain more calm during all the chaos throughout the game.
Unrealistic gender expectations. The man is supposed to be calm/badass, and the woman scared/emotional. If those stereotypes are broken or reversed (however reasonably), then people will treat the man like less of a man. Seriously, he’s a civilian and she’s the protagonist, that should matter more than the genders involved.

I second the praise for the soundtrack and sound direction in Parasite Eve. This game had some very memorable soundtracks. Decades later, I still find myself humming Plosive Attack on occasion; it is crazy how memorable a track can be if it has a distinctive base line.

This video was amazing, Suzi! Great editing work as always! I just beat PE 1 and 2 last week. I'm playing classic games from PS1 and PS2 again now that my english skills are better and I can understand the story. Also, allow me to take this opportunity to say that your videos are very pleasant to watch and especially to listen to :) Cheers from Brazil o/
the music on this game... it's simply superb. the basement at the hospital when the lights go out.... give me more goosebumps than any of the latest resident evil games. the game was nearly perfect. and I've never cleared the Chrysler building... when I found out that the floors were randomly created, I gave up...I was too young to face something like that. great video! your voice is so soothing. expecting the P.E.2 history review.
My older brother bought a PS1 and this game along with RE2 back in the '98 summer. I just turned twelve. I played through the entire game in two days. It was a formative experience for me. It really ignited something within me, and I fell in love with strong narrative-driven gaming experiences. Thanks for this video and the subsequent trip down nostalgia lane!
Thank you Suzi for doing a video of this game. I loved both PS1 games and I'm glad that your channel actually nails all the reasons why this game was great.
I just discovered your channel and OMG! I played RE1 when i was 7 years old and i was horrified at first, but then i fell in love with survival horror games and your channel is real gem for every survival horror fan!
Have you considered a career in voice acting or audiobook narration? Your voiceovers are absolutely enrapturing! Thank you for such a high quality production as well. I greatly appreciate the writing!
Thank you so much for showing me this gem! I'm loving the game! It's really great to hear about game from the perspective of someone who loves them. Looking forward for more entries in this series. Please teach me more history! ^_^
Every game sound so much better when Sphere Hunter talk about it! You played pretty much the same games as me in 90, Dino crisis, Resident Evil... just missing Silent Hil! Keep it up please! Thanks for the awesome reviews!!!
Actually a lot of the "Science" in the game is true....however some of the info has proven to be false with current Scientific research. mostly the Science related to sperm could use a citation or two.
Brandon Brown Star Trek actually was pretty accurate for the time and iirc Roddenberry consulted real scientists and used scientific theories and concepts people thought of back then like Dyson Spheres
I love this game to death! The music, cutscenes, gameplay.... Love it all! I would love to see this game get a remake. Keep the game mechanics, maybe even stick with the still camera shots (my favorite part of the game). Would love to see a remaster of the music, cut scenes revamped, and voice work done. Maybe even fix and expand gameplay to make it longer (while still making sense in the game). I just love to play and replay this game. I wish there more games with this similar game mechanic. I love the real time turn based (moving around while the active battle loads to attack).
I’m so glad to see someone showing some love for this game. This definitely changed my life back in the day. I got this as part of a charity program just before a Christmas 1998 when I was 9. I think about the FMV’s every Christmas until this day... I also don’t watch live shows in the winter...
I watched my aunt play this game before I even took a bio class, so whenever somebody says 'mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell,' this is the first place my mind goes instead of class XD I always get really excited when I see a new video on PE, because this game is my childhood. I always had a thing for heroes in a horror setting who respond with discipline and strength so they can fight through their fear. Between PE, Legend of Legaia, Castlevania: SotN, and others like Metroid Prime and Devil May Cry, this kind of story and character dynamic set my role models early and had a huge effect on my life. Even the game's low-key soundtrack and ambiance stuck with me and affected my overall mood and taste in music for years to come, and I'm a little sad that this project was so unusual for Yoko Shimomura, because I'd love for her to make more music like this. The Cavern of Remembrance in Kingdom Hearts is the closest I've heard from her since. If you want something that's a little less horror and more Dark Souls-style tension, I recommend Vagrant Story if you haven't already played it! It uses an expanded version of the range web and equipment tool systems from PE, squeezed into a combat system that uses timed hits like Paper Mario or Legend of Dragoon, along with a rudimentary sanity/stress system! The potential for customization is so high, and the combat keeps you active, but still thoughtful like PE! :D
And they even add in little tidbits like the ability to customize your weapons and determine what they are good against and the ability to charm enemies to fight with you.
We never got this game "offcially" in the UK. But back in the day when I was young we knew a guy who chipped ps1s so we were able play this game. Now I have it on PSN thank god for making out of region psn accounts lol.

The fact you acknowledge the existence of Xenogears earns this video an instant Like. Parasite Eve 1 and 2 were so long ago now I have forgotten how fun they were.
Fun fact: This game was also an inspiration for the band Bring Me The Horizon's song Parasite Eve. Oli Sykes, the lead singer, was asked what would he like to do on his last day, his response, "A speed run of Parasite Eve on the hardest difficulty." It's a great song and an incredibly talented band
I'm SOOOOOO glad you did this game. I've always wondered about this seires and always wanted to play, you've given me the push to make me decide to play it! So thanks for that! Finding out Yoko Shimomura did the sound track and hearing it has me mega hype. I've got two quick questions What you said about the promotional art over sexualizing Aya while the OG game doesn't, were you aware of the same thing happening to Heather from Silent Hill 3? And what do you think of 3rd Birthday? Also if you did any Silent Hill, (3 especially,) I would be soooooooooooo friggin happy, thanks for making such great content and being one of my favorite channels, I can't wait to see your next video! Hope evo was fun!
You need to play Parasite Eve 1 and 2, those two are absolute must plays. I try to pretend The 3rd Birthday doesn't exist. In a perfect world it wouldn't.
I played through the game a few times and just like you I was impressed by it right from the moment I saw the first trailer at my local game store. I am a huge fan of the series as a whole and even bought the movie and read the novel as soon as I learned they existed. Thanks for keeping this franchise alive through your Fandom and videos
10:53 Then again, if the game did have voice acting, it would've likely had RE1 or Symphony of the Night level voice acting, and that would've ruined the mood
Yeah yoko is famous, she also did guilds theme in street fighter 2 and she does the soundtrack to the Mario & Luigi RPG series and obvs she does Kingdom Hearts, funny enough, not many people notice but some of the Kingdom Hearts oats are remixed from Parasite Eve
Ah, Parasite Eve. I absolutely adore this game! First time I played this was around the time RE 2 came out and personally, I struggled with the machanics of Evil 2. But the moment I played Parasite Eve, I was hooked also calling Aya "waifu" I've noticed you have great taste, madam (she's mine too). But the entire game, story & soundtrack was absolutely wonderful and still playing it to this day along with part 2 which wasn't really bad despite it playing too much like the RE games. And that EX mode? 77 levels of hell and side boss was completely overpowered! Thank you for reviewing this masterpiece and looking forward to more great survival horror game reviews. 🖒
It is so nice to see someone else who loves this game. I have replayed the game tons and like made max armor/max weapon by doing new game plus over and over again with the super tool from the chrysler building. Aya is a total bad ass.
I really really wish 3rd Birthday hadn't destroyed Aya's character or the damn series. I LOVED Parasite Eve growing up! It was the first Survival Horror game i really got into and played to completion (except the Chrysler building). Aya is cool, calm and collected and grows as a character during the 6 days she squares off with Eve! The music is amazing and still gives me chills when i hear it! This is a game i replay on my vita ever Christmas! I really hope that if this does get a modern remake that they DO NOT go the fan service route and have more respect for the character! I was SO disappointed with 3rd Birthday and it's overall story when i saw what the big twist was at the end! It was painful! AND FREAKING CREEPY when you realize there is a shower scene in that game... and even creepier when you realize how wrong it is for that shower scene to be in that game to be unlocked.
I just finished this game for the first time in like a decade. It still holds up! If only Squeenix would get their heads out of their asses and Remaster or remake Parasite Eve.
I've been on the fence about this game, but you actually did it; you sold me on it. Thanks! I'm gonna check this one out for sure. I never knew what to make of it, but now with a more concise idea of what to expect, I'm a bit intrigued.
i find the nudity and sexualization of Aya in Parasite Eve to be more symbolic, showing you that she is this powerful being yet still human and still vulnerable. 3rd birthday is just for the sake of fanservice :/
I actually find most of the sexual stuff of Aya is mostly in the concept art for the first game... She's like not sexualized at all in the game, itself, really. The 3rd Birthday, on the other hand...
I'm probably one of maybe 3 people on the planet who genuinely liked 3rd birthday and what it offered as a whole, but the wardrobe damage aspect is a bit much.
Thank you so much for making this. Parasite Eve may be my favorite game ever. So much nostalgia but also going back it is still amazing. I really wish someone would make more games like this but you are probably right, this sorta game may never happen again. Thanks again for your great content, always great to hear from a like mind concerning survival horror and RPGs.
Always happy to come across a fellow fan of Parasite Eve. It doesn’t get as much love as it deserves. I wish the rest of the series followed the formula this one, in my opinion, perfected.
Here you are covering yet another game I don't find many people talking about much these days. Sick coverage. Weirdly enough, I read the novel, but have never actually played the game.
Aya is an exceptional female protagonist. She's not a weak person--she's strong, and she's confident. But she also has character flaws that matter. Not only that, she's actually, truly feminine. She's a strong female character, not a man with tits like like a lot of pandering developers and obnoxious rage mobs seem to demand, and not a cringey thing screaming about girl power. Parasite Eve is easily in my top 10 games of all time. I might even call it the best game on the PS1. The atmosphere is perfect, the characters are fantastic, the gameplay is fun as hell, the customization is deep and satisfying (making a poison, exploding, full auto handgun? yes please), the story is engaging, the graphics are dope as hell. Words cannot express how much I love this god damn game. Re: the good luck charms, I'm pretty sure none of them do anything. But, the last one takes up an inventory slot for the purpose of later being replaced by Maeda's bullets.
One of the more disturbing things about Mellissa is that her "drug problem" was psychosomatic. The pills were harmless immunosuppressants. "You do it to yourself, you do, and that's what really hurts" --Radiohead
I don't think anyone has ever said "harmless immunosuppressants" before, but even the dialogue shown here makes it pretty clear that the 'drug problem' is medication she actually requires to continue living. It kind of comes across as though the devs just combined the existing important plot point of "the host needs to be on an immunosuppressant" from the novel with the thought that people hearing that someone is taking pills, and is taking more because they're stressed, will just naturally assume that them being abusable makes sense and rolled with it. Or didn't really understand the concept of an immunosuppressant themselves.
@@iusethisnameformygoogleacc1013 My point was the addiction wasn't caused by the medication itself. She was paranoid that she would get sick without her drugs (it's ambiguous whether she understands what the pills actually do) so she kept shoveling them down her throat far above the recommended dosage. In a mundane way, that's pretty scary
OMG. I am not from New York. But I love the depiction of New York in this game. I fell in love with it. Sometimes I go into the building I think its the Hospital and then just stare at the Chrystler building from that window... You know the one I am talking about. Love It.

I second the praise for the soundtrack and sound direction in Parasite Eve. This game had some very memorable soundtracks. Decades later, I still find myself humming Plosive Attack on occasion; it is crazy how memorable a track can be if it has a distinctive base line.
Now Parasite Eve 2! Or Dino Crisis! Or Silent Hill! Or... Eternal Darkness! Nice work on the video by the way, I love your videos!
DINO CRISIS
Fucking love all these games
Ahh when you say 'you have no excuse not to play it' I cried a little inside since it never got released in Europe. I think I'd have loved it when I was younger. Hopefully this copyright registration people have talked about means it's finally coming. Thanks for the video, I love your passion 💜
Not gonna lie. I originally clicked this video because I recognized the artwork used for your onscreen avatar. But I will say this was definitely a good video to watch. I actually have this game sitting in my collection, but I sadly never got around to playing it. I might now though after watching this. Great work!
That battle theme is so legendary. Like how can a tune relax you and pump you up?
This video was amazing, Suzi! Great editing work as always!
I just beat PE 1 and 2 last week. I'm playing classic games from PS1 and PS2 again now that my english skills are better and I can understand the story.
Also, allow me to take this opportunity to say that your videos are very pleasant to watch and especially to listen to :)
Cheers from Brazil o/
I missed you Sue! Welcome back!~ Parasite Eve... been waiting for this one!
the music on this game... it's simply superb. the basement at the hospital when the lights go out.... give me more goosebumps than any of the latest resident evil games.
the game was nearly perfect. and I've never cleared the Chrysler building... when I found out that the floors were randomly created, I gave up...I was too young to face something like that. great video! your voice is so soothing. expecting the P.E.2 history review.
One of the most underrated games of all time. I’m going to have to dig out my copy and play it for the first time in years.
Ah, this video is gonna be good!

I feel like i'm falling in love with her voice as she describes my favourite games. Cheers
Of all the games of the 90's, this one deserves a damn good remake.
I would also settle for a remaster. This game is a true masterpiece.
These videos cure my anxiety. I also love the taste in games you have, I can watch pretty much all of them
Thank you so much for showing me this gem!
Actually a lot of the "Science" in the game is true....however some of the info has proven to be false with current Scientific research. mostly the Science related to sperm could use a citation or two.
the game came out years ago, what did you expect
-The game is 21 years old and used what they knew up to 1998.
It is fictional science anyway, just like the fictional science in star trek
@@bringbackmy90s Star Trek is explicitly technobabble and any overlap is accidental.
This is on purpose of course.
I love how you used code veronica save theme in the beginning 😍 my favorite one yet
I’m so glad to see someone showing some love for this game. This definitely changed my life back in the day. I got this as part of a charity program just before a Christmas 1998 when I was 9. I think about the FMV’s every Christmas until this day... I also don’t watch live shows in the winter...
I am so glad to hear someone talking about one of my fav games. Good review
Id argue that Parasite Eve has THE best OST of any Playstation title
I watched my aunt play this game before I even took a bio class, so whenever somebody says 'mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell,' this is the first place my mind goes instead of class XD
I always get really excited when I see a new video on PE, because this game is my childhood.
@Ed Beasant How do you get it on PSN in the UK?
Pretty sure we did have it. I owned it and my psone wasn't chipped. It was definitely PAL at least
@@IXSICNESS i guarentee parasite eve did not come out on PAL parasite eve 2 did but not the first.

You are absolutely 100% correct! This game is absolutely AMAZING! It's one of my top fave games of all time! Very few can even TOUCH it!
Parasite Eve 1, the best one 😍
I drop everything i was doing right now to watch this and i mean "everything" like writing a eassy and doing chores......it was worth it
Wow, a father winning a custody battle in America is almost as rare as people spontaneously combusting.
Playing this game right now, glad to see your coverage of it. Great content as always Suzi!
I like your voice, you don't scream or act overly enthusiastic like most ytbers... I like calm people.
I'm lovin' your videos, keep up the great work.
This series needs a remake I'd love to see Parasite Eve on the ps4 or 5.
As someone who loves both survival horror, and JRPGs, I can't believe I've never played this! You managed to convince me to buy this game for sure!
Oli Sykes, the lead singer, was asked what would he like to do on his last day, his response, "A speed run of Parasite Eve on the hardest difficulty." It's a great song and an incredibly talented band
this is one of best fun facts ive ever read
Unfortunately the song sucks major ass
I'm SOOOOOO glad you did this game. I've always wondered about this seires and always wanted to play, you've given me the push to make me decide to play it! So thanks for that! Finding out Yoko Shimomura did the sound track and hearing it has me mega hype. I've got two quick questions
What you said about the promotional art over sexualizing Aya while the OG game doesn't, were you aware of the same thing happening to Heather from Silent Hill 3?
And what do you think of 3rd Birthday?
Also if you did any Silent Hill, (3 especially,) I would be soooooooooooo friggin happy, thanks for making such great content and being one of my favorite channels, I can't wait to see your next video! Hope evo was fun!
You need to play Parasite Eve 1 and 2, those two are absolute must plays. I try to pretend The 3rd Birthday doesn't exist. In a perfect world it wouldn't.
i cant wait till you talk about the 2nd game
after just discovering this vid after you covered R.E 2, nostalgia bomb >
I played through the game a few times and just like you I was impressed by it right from the moment I saw the first trailer at my local game store. I am a huge fan of the series as a whole and even bought the movie and read the novel as soon as I learned they existed. Thanks for keeping this franchise alive through your Fandom and videos
10:53 Then again, if the game did have voice acting, it would've likely had RE1 or Symphony of the Night level voice acting, and that would've ruined the mood
My girl Yoko did the soundtrack!? Now I have to play this!
Yoko is the reason I bought this game and I don't regret it at all.
@@KittenChaos90 I'm glad you enjoyed the game.
The soundtrack in the first PE is *amazing*.
She also did Xenoblade Chronicles!
*tips*
Found this a few years back and downloaded on my vita. Glad to see I'm not the only one who still appreciates this unremembered gem
It is so nice to see someone else who loves this game. I have replayed the game tons and like made max armor/max weapon by doing new game plus over and over again with the super tool from the chrysler building. Aya is a total bad ass.
“Her date seems like a tool.” I literally thought the same. 🤣
Great video! That script must haven taken forever to write. Good job :D
I am so glad I got recommended this video. Very well done review, very informative without spoiling too much info. 10/10!
Great video for a great game, your analysis is perfect. I play PE the first time in 2018 and I was amazed how well this masterpiece has aged!
I just finished this game for the first time in like a decade. It still holds up! If only Squeenix would get their heads out of their asses and Remaster or remake Parasite Eve.
When I fought Eve in the zoo and I saw the scene with the flaming horse running for his life, I was in shock.

The Sphere Hunter is top tier waifu material!
I've been on the fence about this game, but you actually did it; you sold me on it. Thanks! I'm gonna check this one out for sure. I never knew what to make of it, but now with a more concise idea of what to expect, I'm a bit intrigued.
Love Sphere Hunters content and voice.
"Scan" the name given to the ability to see your enemy HP in Every game
i find the nudity and sexualization of Aya in Parasite Eve to be more symbolic, showing you that she is this powerful being yet still human and still vulnerable. 3rd birthday is just for the sake of fanservice :/
I actually find most of the sexual stuff of Aya is mostly in the concept art for the first game... She's like not sexualized at all in the game, itself, really.
The 3rd Birthday, on the other hand...
Gurl, 3rd Birthday's sexualization is over the top, even for me!
3rd Birthday is pretty bad, I bought it Day 1 and I’m still trying to get through it, it just never appealed to me even with the fan service lol
I'm probably one of maybe 3 people on the planet who genuinely liked 3rd birthday and what it offered as a whole, but the wardrobe damage aspect is a bit much.
What nudity? lmao
*"Its like magic"*
RazgrizOne Himiko fron Danganronpa v3 sprung to mind.
lmao, i was mentioning the part on 8:00 since i really like it when stories take place in NY
*i havent got up to DRV3 yet*
Thank you for the video. I've been playing this game since I was 1999 and I finished it twice a year (ex mode included). It is my favorite game.
Parasite eve is probably one of most underrated games on ps1
2020:
Bring me the Horizon writes a song in reference to the game
Covid happens
Now it's tied to an amazing game and something we must learn from.
Just a reminder Bring Me The Horizon's new single featuring Doom Composer Mick Gordon comes out tomorrow, named after this beautiful game.
But they put none reference to this game, they put instead R.E references
@@BlessTheJay Oli just uses the title of games he likes. Shadow Moses has nothing to do with MGS either.
I Love ❤️ Parasite Eve 1 & 2.
It deserves a Remake!
With Square Enix today I would be a bit worried. But well done remake would indeed satisfy my Parasite Eve crave.
OMG. I am not from New York. But I love the depiction of New York in this game. I fell in love with it. Sometimes I go into the building I think its the Hospital and then just stare at the Chrystler building from that window... You know the one I am talking about. Love It.
I'm very glad I found this channel randomly through her Resident Evil 3 video, there's only a few actually decent channels that talk about games like these.
