While 10"x12" plates are the most common, you may need a different size depending on your measurements. We recommend using a soft measuring tape to to get the most accurate measurement. After determining your measurements head to our website to select the body armor plates that are right for you.

    I bought a plate carrier at a surplus store and didn't think to measure it and t turned out to be around 12 by 14 and I'm 5-8 so it was a hassle to get used to it but after I worked with it for awhile it got a lot easier

  • @jameslooker4791
    @jameslooker4791 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    This video almost helped. I am 6' 3" but relatively thin. I think I could run an 11x14 in the back, but not the front. Being able to comfortably drive a small car with the plate carrier would be a priority. I'm considering an 11x14 base coat steel plate for the back and a 10x12 PE hybrid plate for the front.

    • @SpartanArmorSystems
      @SpartanArmorSystems  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You would need to go with a carrier such as our Achilles which is specifically designed to accept both 11x14 and 10x12 plates using different chambers that are sized appropriately. The kit (magazine pouches, tools etc) you put on the front of the carrier would help balance the load.

      @@SpartanArmorSystems Thank you for the help. Diving into body armor is more than just what's your budget. By the belly button to collar bone measurement, I am just barely big enough for an 11x14 plate in the front. I might go with double 11x14s with a modified cut. In a crisis, I prioritize mobility over protection. Fragmentation just doesn't concern me as much in the back as the front, and a pound of spall liner plus a 1/4" of space isn't nothing. The large SAPI cut might be the best compromise.

      I'm 6'2'' and while it seems like technically 8x10 is adequate, I'm kind of leaning toward an 11x14 rig. While it's true the heart and lungs are first priority for protection, all that stuff in there is kinda important! It's the kind of gear that I think for almost all of us even now, is a never-in-a-lifetime use scenario. That being the case, I'd opt for more coverage.
      I was always under the assumption that 11x14s are really only needed for guys pushing above 6'5'', but I think a lot of us fall into a grey zone where either can work depending on what trade-offs you make, and there always are trade-offs in armor. I'm probably too short to remain seated and riding for a long time with the bigger plates, but that's to be determined.
      There's no way I'll run steel in 11x14. I regret the normal size steel III+ I had. Stupidly heavy for the protection. I'll only use them for training, or give them to someone I like. Or better yet someone I don't like!🤣
      I'm thinking multi-curve poly, which even at the big size come in under 5 pounds each. Yeah I know that won't keep everything out, but life (and loss thereof) is a trade-off.
