21:26 And there is more to it.
In the original cut, Michelangelo went through a depression when they were at the farm, and the scene where he’s going at the punching bag went on longer to further show his frustrations.
Also, it was originally him who was screaming for Splinter atop the farm, as you can clearly see his nunchucks.

You forgot to mention the movie is actually the first time where Rapheal's character is fully defined. The tv series had already established Leo as the Leader, Donnie as the Tech Guy and Mikey as the goofball. Raph in the cartoon was essentially a snarkier version of Mikey and this movie is actually where they establish Rapheal as a hothead with extreme anger management issues. Which for me is a big deal since Raph has always been my favorite turtle.

For the record, at the time of the movie, Domino's actually had a policy where if your pizza was not delivered within 30 minutes, 3 bucks would be taken off the cost. If memory serves, that was discontinued shortly after when a driver was killed trying to deliver a pizza on time. Hope that helps.

Minor casting fact you might find funny, related to the error from the 1987 series shown at 3:40.
In the 1987 series, Raphael was voiced by Rob Paulsen. In the 2012 series, Donatello (the turtle erroneously given Raph's voice in this scene) was ALSO voiced by Rob Paulsen.

In reference to the deeper character moments like with Mikey not being able to handle the thought of Splinter being gone, Raph gets a pretty good one to.
When he takes down those to thieves but then gets into a fight with Casey over Casey wanting to hurt them more. I think it's just a great moment that the angry one who clearly like to fight is also the one that we see going "no, they've been dealt with, it's over, I'm not going to let anyone take this farther."

Thanks. Born in '65, I was an adult by the 80s, so I was never really into TMNT like that. But I can say that I *_did_* watch the reruns in the 90s, and I enjoyed them. There was enough adult-level humor to keep it interesting & fun. Too many of the toons nowadays are mindless yuck fests & gross-out humor - the dreaded LCD (lowest common denominator). Many of them look like they were designed for kids with ADHD. I was basically raised when Saturday morning cartoons were a big deal, and the Looney Tunes show was easily my favorite (and still is). Nobody makes them like that anymore! Only Animaniacs, or Pinky and the Brain come anywhere close to that level of sophistication. My stepson had an old VHS of the first TMNT movie. He's 35 now. Time flies. But I've never been interested enough to want to sit through a live-action version of the Turtles. Although, I did always wish there were TNMT pizza joints for real. That would be awesome! Pizza is my favorite food group. tavi.

New Line Cinema didn't set out to make TMNT at all. The first film was made by Golden Harvest, then bought and distributed by New Line. New Line made the more cartoonish sequels, but aside from maybe some post production input, they were not involved in the making of the first one. Which is, as you note, basically a direct adaptation of the comics, with a few carefully selected elements from the cartoon.

I was only five when the first TMNT movie came out, and it wasn't even until later that I learned it was based on a comic-book series. It didn't really matter at the time, as both my kid bro and I were automatically hooked. We saw the animated series and first two live-action films on VHS, the third live-action film in theaters, and I saw a Ninja Turtles live-stage performance at one point in Tennessee. We even had the plastic toy nunchucks! And even more interesting, for better or for worse, was that the Turtles were my introduction to Japanese culture - which to this day I still show profound interest in, most particularly their cinema - even before I learned about freaking Godzilla!!!
Also incredible was that I met Kevin Eastman at a Comic Con in Greenville, SC back in March 2019 nearly a year before Covid19 hit! Along with other comic-book artists like Frank Cho and Budd Root (I got their autographs), I was just psyched to see one of the creators of a very profound childhood influence! I wonder if I'll have the same feeling when I meet Frank Miller...

    Happy 10th Anniversay, Sean!
I have been following you for five or six years, having watched the majority of your episodes since watching a review of one of the mockbusters
This was my introduction to the world of TH-cam critics.

I've followed you since 2013 and you are still one of my fav TH-cam critics. Your reviews are both very informative and fun to listen to.

Great review and Happy 10-year anniversary!
(Also, I don't think that "Awesome!" even stopped being a slang to this day. I still see it as being used as the go-to adjective for people who are amazed or merely impressed by something.)

This was the first movie I saw without my parents. Something you could never let a 10 year old do now. And that theater was full of nothing but kids. How times have changed.

that thing about Oroku Nagi is interesting since he's never made it into any adaptations outside the comics, with subsequent versions opting for Saki and Yoshi having the more direct rivalry. the closest thing we've got is the character of Mashimi in the 2003 episode, the Tale of Master Yoshi

wow... I guess it has been a long time. I think I subscribed back in 2013 or 2014, but just so you know Sean, that first review of Twilight was what pulled me in lol.

I definitely think it was Corey Feldman's role in The Burbs (in particular when he calls the 'Pizza Dude') is definitely what inspired casting him for the movie.

    Happy 10th anniversary!
I first discovered you in 2017 and I have been a fan since!
Anyways, the TMNT franchise has made many memories for me! My first experience was with the 2003 series and everything else onward!
OK this film! Looks good but I know it gets worse from there!
To be continued in Part 2...

Sean, I've been a fan since discovering your review of Cutthroat Island one day on YT and began playing catch-up from your first video review on Twilight and progressing to the present.
Congrats on 10 years of reviewing BS for our enjoyment.

That was probably in the other movie.
      No wait, it wasn't.

I was introduced to the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" around 1985. I was a hardcore pencil and paper role playing gamer at the time, and that was the golden age of role playing games. I was in a hobby store looking for something interesting to toss on the game table when I ran across, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Other Strangeness" by Palladium Books. I snatched that book up immediately because it just... stood out with it's weirdness. I discovered the comic book after that, and that book was, at the time, one of the most expensive collectable comics back then, for some reason. The game was very much based on that comic book, and it was just.. insane. It was fun for a one-off departure once in a while when we weren't playing Dungeons & Dragons, or TSR's Marvel Superheroes Role Playing Game. I remember when the TV show came out, I was very... disappointed, because the game was kind of... brutal. But they made the TV show all goofy and dumbed down, as well as changed several of the characters to make them more... child friendly.

BlackburnBigdragon TMNT and Other Strangeness, Robotech, the Marvel Heroes and Car Wars were my favorite tabletop RPGs.

    • @BlackburnBigdragon
      @BlackburnBigdragon 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@AC-gb7do Oh man. We played "Car Wars" all the time. I still have every single boxed set and book ever published for that game, including the little mini-game that spawned the larger game. I used to turn it into a miniatures game, using Micro-Machines as the cars. That walled Truck Stop map used to make an amazing arena. Same thing for that small town map. That game is fantastic! It's one of our favorite games.
