Bought my first Saturn a couple of years ago, and later got a Satiator. The Saturn quickly became one of my favorite classic consoles in my collection.

I know I'm a bit late, but I just wanted to point it out that this was the most RESPECTFUL video I ever watched about this subject. Like, you had 0 intention on just thrashing on other consoles to make the Saturn better, you just showed us how much you love the Saturn and its library (and ngl, this made me dream again about having this console). Congrats for making the most respectful video about videogame on the whole TH-cam. +1 Subscriber!
You are never late, you are right on time! Thanks, friend! I appreciate your kind words. I believe every system is honorable but I especially have many memories with my Saturn. I hope you get your Saturn again one day!
Sega Saturn is incredible. I'd like to point out that there's also a next level of appreciation, which is the Sega Saturn homebrew community, it has gotten so big in the last few years. We're truly living in a golden age of the Saturn. I'm part of this incredible community, since april 2020, when I published my first homebrew for the console 'The Lighthouse of São Bento do Oeste' this year with my studio I'm producing my forth homebrew game for the console, Lost Days 0: Queen's Dream, a RPG/visual novel for the Sega Saturn.
I was a ps1 owner in 1996, then went back and picked up a saturn in 1999 around the same time i picked up a dreamcast. I had nights, saturn bomberman, bug! And a few other games i dont quite remember. I loved my saturn but sadly due to being pulled off shells, the second hand market was my only way to get games for it. It was heartbreaking. Eventually i put my saturn away, and went full speed ahead with my dreamcast obsession. The saturn deserved better.
Let me tell you one of my greatest regrets in life. I had given my entire Sega Saturn, 3 controller (1 3D), 21 disc collection in trade-in. Yes, it makes me ill just writing this. Recently, I have gotten into emulation and recovered most of my collection back, and more. They even load with the crisp Saturn console intro I missed. And when I hear that Daytona music, every memory showers over me like a nostalgic river.
That does sound painful! I'm glad you are able to build back your collection with emulation. Daytona USA is the best. I even bought the version they have on xbox live.
@@polygonlegends Yeah, I never had an issue with the PlayStation Mini not having the duel shocks, as I liked how hardware wise it was just like the original PlayStation and fully captured that nostalgia for me exactly as I remember it, but I really wish the selection of games and quality of the emulation had just been better. Similarly, I'd actually want the original Saturn controller as default with such a Saturn Mini too, and just for the games to be done basically perfectly. They could sell the analogue controllers as optional extras for those who want that imo. This way it's properly authentic to the original experience, which I think is actually a hugely important point of these Mini systems, or at least should be imo.
@@inceptionalat least it was one of the easier minis to hack and since it had a better chip than any other mini it can do some games that other minis struggle with.
I would probably temper the assertion that modern displays add anything to the Saturn experience ..once you go past svideo the mesh transparencies can get extra ugly. A really good crt looks good even with component input. I know that's probably contentious but if I'm using a modern display I emulate with something like yaba sanshiro so I can boost the resolution output, and with some emulators you can even make the mesh transparencies look nicer as well
Still I prefer original hardware because Saturn controls are soooo good; especially for 6 button fighting games and special controls like the virtual on twinstick
I just got my very first Saturn mostly to play the best version of Primal Rage one of my favorite arcade fighters. Learning so much about the library, so many amazing games!
I didn't have one on release but got one way after it was dead, then I sold and eventually re-bought it years later. I have a great import collection now, and I love the system. If you play Imports it's complete gold. Subbed!
I was 10 in '94 and listed after the Saturn, seeing it in the Australian gaming magazines of the time. It wasn't until 2022 that I got my hands on one, thanks to Japanese auction sites. Metal Slug and Thunderforce V quickly became favourites!
I Bought my first ever Saturn last year and GOD DAMN I´m loving it. It has rapidly become my favorite console in my entire collection. Such cool and awesome games
Purchased a Sega Saturn a little over a year it had been released. Paid $100 at my local Toys R Us. Never got a chance to play the standout titles as I was also in college then and any time I set aside for gaming was mostly dedicated to Mario and Zelda 64. Now, I did happen to come across this little gem called, *correction* Xmen vs SF. It was the Japanese release bundled with a 4 meg RAM cart. I had to buy a separate converter as well and the entire set up was pretty epic. I had to get the timing just right for the Saturn to recognize the 4 meg cart after boot up. The game ran superbly and my friends and I were always impressed by what was happening on screen. I picked the game and converter up at my local Babages. I believe I paid just north of $130 for the bundle. That was a lot of clams for me back then. Good times. I wish I had kept my Saturn, I actually sold it to another college kid for $40. System, two controllers and MK trilogy. Wish I kept it for the SNK titles that took advantage of the 4 meg cart. Great times though.
I love your story. Xmen vs SF was so amazing at the time I believe it was arcade perfect as well. The N64 was a great system too. I have endless memories of Mariokart64, Mario64, Goldeneye and Ocarina of Time. have you thought about getting a Japanese Saturn complete in box from Ebay? There are TONS of listings. Thanks for sharing!
@polygonlegends Not sure if I'll go in that direction. I barely have time to play as it is but have been considering another Dreamcast (mine stopped working 😢) as a lot of SNK games were faithful ported over to that system. Ultimately, I'd love a Neo Geo but it wasn't attainable for me then and it continues to evade my finances today😂Thanks for the suggestion though!
Great video. I remember being a huge SEGA fan when I was a kid. But I was a poor kid, and in my country, the SEGA Saturn wasn’t just super expensive, but also rare to find in stores. I lived in a small town and only read about it in magazines or saw commercials on TV for this next-gen SEGA console. I never had the opportunity to even see it in person. So, my main gaming machine at that time was the SEGA Mega Drive 2. I have so many amazing memories with that console... I can only imagine what it would have been like if I had owned a Saturn. :] Now, as an adult, I play the Saturn, but unfortunately only via emulation on my gaming PC and laptop. The strange thing is that I’m playing current-gen games, especially AAA titles, less and less. I find myself going back to the SEGA Mega Drive, SEGA Saturn, and Sony PlayStation via emulation more and more.
I first played a Saturn game properly about 15 years ago, I completely dismissed it back in the mid '90s based on what was displayed in stores, which was Sonic 3D Blast and a 2D fighting game (perhaps also Nights at some point but I don't think I played it). Some of the most popular 3D games back then are cool (my fave being PD2), and there are some nice forgotten gems like Bulk Slash and Powerslave too, but what got me really into it were the great 2D games. Recently I've introduced it via Saturn Bomberman to my nephew, who really enjoyed it!
I found my sega saturn decades ago in a burned out apartment we were gutting. The poor thing languished in my collection for all those years until a few years ago i bought the cords and fired it up. Damn! It still worked. Went back into the tote of purgatory for a few more years until very recently. I have it hooked up to my old crtv and i dont think it will ever go back into purgatory. I only have ghen war and thunder strike right now but i will for sure add more to the collection as time goes on. Great console. I cant help but wonder what the games could have been if developers put as much effort into the saturn as they did the playstation.
Guardian Heroes has an enhanced remake on the Xbox 360 (it's also backwards compatible on XB1/XBS). It is a blast and needs to get a PC release. It expanded the multiplayer in a big way with 12 player support.
Wow, that's really cool! Years ago I bought the Remastered Daytona USA and Nights into dreams on Xbox Live. If I can still pick up Guardian Heroes, I'm going to do it.
Then you might be the perfect person to ask as I've been thinking a lot about this series but have never played it, those massive fights look so cool 🤠 Roughly how many hours do you think to any% complete the game on default difficulty for a first timer? Also I'd be curious on your thoughts around the sequel, do you like it compared to the first one and if so for a first timer in 2024 could the sequel be a better option due to improvements/refining of the game? 🤔
@@roastbeef3000 From what I remember, you can probably beat it in 2-3 hours. I wouldn’t worry about time to be honest. The game is a work of art. I only started playing the sequel recently. It’s okay, but it’s definitely not the same game. Check them out and have fun!
@@roastbeef3000 Very good questions. I loved the first one but I never beat it so I'm now sure how long it would take but its on my list of things to do! I recently found a translated version of the sequel online since it originally only released in Japan so I never got to play but I'm excited to jump in!
I absolutely love the Saturn. I was a ps1 guy but before the ps1 I was eying up the Saturn. I'm glad I got the ps1 because I could trade more games with friends and I didn't miss out on ff7 which became my fav game of all time but there is something about the early 32 bit era that I really really love. When you start playing Saturn you realize all of their games are from that era which makes me feel like I have a massively extended early ps1 library (if you follow my reasoning lol). Lol I just realized I had already posted on this video..
I like this channel, because I think you were actually there, and not just reading re-worded "90s gaming drama" articles. Not that there is anything wrong with being passionate about something that happened before you were aware of it, but this is different to a bunch of other channels around. You can have a sub.
I was overseas in Japan when the Saturn was released. I had so many cool games for that system. My favorites were Virtua Cop 2, Virtual On (with the two joystick controller) Darkstalkers 3 and X-Men vs. Street Fighter.
What was great about the Sega Saturn was the optional decompression card. With it, I could watch Philips Video-CDs. Not all were compatible, but it was like having a DVD years before. I admit I gave mine up, because on PlayStation, there were a lot more great games coming out. I own the virtua stick, but I'd have to find an analog gamepad for it. Anyway, I still have it today.
So crazy how games were so much more creative.. The diversity of types of games and how they looked was amazing. Even with so many indies today I miss that creativity a lot..
That's an interesting perspective, I agree, a lot of games back in the day brought something new to the table, each time. Now it seems there are no new genre's being created but there are many incredible games that have come out in the last 10 years, The Bioshock series, Horizon, The Assasins games (my fav is Black Flag) and even some of the shooters have decent stories.
@@polygonlegends definitely, and I love those games, like Bioshock. And I’m glad we have RDR2 and some other great AAA ones. I just feel that “freshness” of playing something that was completely different, sometimes bringing new technology/crazy feature with it has been a bit lost.
I picked up a Japanese Saturn (model 2 in the white colorway) with the Fenrir in it off eBay. It’s awesome (and I picked up an Action replay plus brand new off Amazon for $40). The one thing you have to keep in mind is that the cartridge slot is a bit finicky and it’s recommended to leave to carriage (action reply, Saroo, etc) plugged in.
There was a time when I only owned 7 games for my Saturn and was kind of transient. Darius Gaiden , Galactic Attack , Radiant Silvergun , X-Men Vs SF , Daytona CE , Virtua Fighter 2 , and Dracula X Symphony of the Night. Literally all I needed to be happy!
My dad got me the same bundle, but it was a shelved unsold unit struggling to outsell the ps1. Out of those three, mine was Virtua Fighter 2, but Daytona is a very close second. It also came with a Panzer Dragoon and Bug! demo.
My dad's co-worker gave me her son's Saturn, but I couldn't seem to get it to display on my TV. Eventually, I sold it for $45 and got a Retron 2 instead. I have since regretted that decision, though I still enjoyed being able to finally play SNES games.
I've had my Saturn since it was first released and it remains one of my favorite consoles. Among my favorite games are Burning Rangers, Guardian Heroes and Street Fighter Alpha 2. ❤
I'm glad the Saroo is exposing even more folks to the platform, the Saturn just seems to be getting more and more love as time goes on. As you mention there's so many new fan translations coming out all the time - its great 🤠 Here's one for you Mr Polygon, as it happens the only Resident Evil game I played was 5 on xbox360 😲so recently I decided to fix that and am playing through RE1 on Saturn and hooo boy what an introduction to tank controls haha I've struggled my way through to the dormitory I think it's called so far where these 2 giant green spiders keep jumping me in a room with a pool table lol. I gotta say I'm quite tempted by the 'invincibility' action reply code in order to finish the game after since looking up a longplay video at whats to come 😅
Yes!! I love that we can play translated games that we missed when they originally came out in Japan. I love the community. OMG Resident Evil feels so hard now a days. My favorite btw is RE4. I had it for the WII and it's my favorite one! I even bought it for my Meta Quest and it's still amazing. I hope you figure out how to get those nasty spiders!
The Saturn is a Console I discovered as an adult. I was doing the adult thing when it came out and bought my first one off one of my Employees. Recently got a Japanese 1st gen when I found out you can play anything with the multi cart and burn games. Recently got a Saroo and absolutely love this Console. Got it initially for the 2D Capcom fighting games as I think the Saturn versions are better. I do still have the Dreamcast I bought brand new. Algorithm brought me here and new subscriber.
I recently got a Saturn and a Saroo cartridge. While I have had some problems, some due to the Saroo, others maybe due to my Saturn being PAL and playing non-PAL versions of games on it (wish I waited to get a JP one), I am loving it.
The Saroo can be finicky! I had issues loading some games as well. I ended up updating the firmware and that seemed to help. Most of my games play now. I hope you can work it out!
@@accountwontlastlong1 Easy for me to say these days but if you get an opportunity definitely get an Action Replay cart if you haven't already. Especially one that supports 4MB. You've got memory for saves/cheats/region free etc. It might be no good if it don't play nice with Saroo though. So pinch of salt my comment... My CD drive is starting to fail for sure so really really looking at Saroo or similar. But I'm holding out as much as I can. My setup is how I like it and don't want to mess with it no more lol. My PAL Saturn is switched. Had it done years ago so I can flip between 50/60hz display. Gives me a 1FPS boost on Japanese Saturn Doom lol. BECAUSE IT'S WORTH IT!
Nice! The Sega Saturn is one of the few consoles missing from my retro gaming collection. I remember playing it a little bit at my friends' house. Shining Force 3 sure looks interesting...I'm a big fan of the first two games.
I’m definitely getting a Japanese one to play Dragonballz Shin butoden. It was only release in Japan, I recently discovered it online. The graphics are so beautiful, it’s not talk about a lot.
100% facts. Legit to see Dragon Force in there -- though it should have had a few minutes dedicated to it given it's one of the greatest and in-depth strategy rpgs of all time. But I know most people don't know much about a lot of these games. I definitely recommend getting an emulator to play Dragon Force since its overly expensive -- but even better if you can get the og hardware and game.
I used to love Saturn and root for it as underdog against Playstation, I really wanted one but my parents wanted me to have only PC. So i didn't get one until 20 years later when in 2014 i bought my first Saturn. Since then my collection grew and as for now i prefer Mega Drive and Dreamcast but there is still this special soft spot in my heart for Saturn as the very first and only console that i ever wanted as a child.
My story is very similar, all my friends had playstation but I wanted the Saturn, I had a genesis/mega drive so I guess you could say I was a Sega fan boy. Don't get me wrong, I love playstation too! So many great games for that system, they got me hooked with Metal Gear Solid and FFVII and Tactics plus many more. Tekken 3, the list goes on.
Loved the Saturn and still have mine. Die Hard arcade and Tomb Raider was some other games I loved that I didn't see mentioned. Was disappointed that Saturn didn't last longer.
I played tomb raider on ps1 but never on the saturn. According to internet legends, they say that the saturn was hard to program for so a lot of developers shied away from it.
I have a few, usually playing on the V-Saturn... My high school game room in the US had one and I never liked it as the controller felt awful (especially the shoulder buttons) and the composite video felt off to me. Now in Japan with native S-Video and the better controllers I appreciate it a lot more. Having a few hundred games I have learned most are junk but there are a good number of great ones to keep the system as the typical S-Video connection residing in the monitor!
I agree with you, the Japanese Saturn control is the better control for sure! The Japanese game market has so many great games as well. There's an Initial D racing game that I wish was released here in the US.
Sega Saturn works great in widescreen 16/9. Winter Heat, Last Bronx, Manx TT, Virtua Cop 2, Daytona USA CCE and Virtua Fighter 2 all from the Sega Model 2 arcade board (hence the widescreen) aged very well. I highly recommend these. They look great and play great. Die Hard Arcade, not so much though. Also grab a copy of Outrun : that's the finest version you can get. Magic Knight Rayearth is an outstanding action RPG, with vivid characters, great animé cutscenes. If you loved Lunar Eternal Blue on the Mega-CD, Magic Knight Rayearth will blow your mind I promiss. Rayman, in my opinion, belongs to the Saturn. The 2D jewell really shines on this particular platform. You'd be a fool to miss on all the Neo-Geo games, Twinkle Star Sprite, Bust-A-Move 3, Metal Slug and Real Bout Fatal Fury. Likewise, Puyo Puyo Sun is at home on the Saturn, as well as Saturn Bomberman. If you love your shmups, the Sega Saturn is the console you need: Darius Gaiden by Taito, Cotton 2, Batsugun by Toaplan, Radiant Silvergun by Treasure and so many more grace the console. RPG lovers, you've got Albert Odyssey, very good. Grandia has been translated and it's as fantastic as the 2nd one on Dreamcast. Resident Evil is here as well. Panzer Dragoon Saga of course. You can skip the original Panzer Dragoon and go straight to Zwei and Saga. Clockwork Knight episode 1 and 2 is the fun clever platform game you didn't know you needed. Play it and thank me later. If you believe the sports department is lacking, Sega Worldwide Soccer 97 will prove you wrong: it's everything you expect from a 3D soccer game and it's the best in the series. There's also a very satisfying full version of the cult classic management game Theme Park by Peter Molyneux, fun, fast and furious in 32 bits. Did you know Snatcher had a sequel? It does. It's called Policenauts and it runs like a charm on the Sega Saturn. That's it for my Sega Saturn recommendations. Oh, no. Capcom's X-Men vs Street Fighter. Get that one too. There are lots of fun to have on the Saturn. It's terrific for arcade, 2D and 3D. Don't let Nights Into Dreams and Sonic R (R for Rubbsh) deter you from experiencing the Saturn. This hidden gem of a video game console will surprise you, I swear.
I always try to play Moon Cradle, but I give up with the language barrier. I really like Wachenroder and Cyber doll, though admittedly I haven"t gotten far in either.
I finally have a Saturn.. after all these years. Because I've never seen it, much less owned it, it had so much mystique to me. Those obscure Japanese Shmups, Sega arcade games, 2D graphics to die for. I've been absolutely loving it. Better late than never.
That's exactly why it was the holy-grail of gaming to me! It was so mysterious and unattainable for me when it first came out. I do enjoy PS1, arguably, a lot more interesting games, but Saturn will always be special.
@@polygonlegends Totally! PS1 is/was amazing of course. Change the industry.. but man, a lot of Saturn holds up very well and I go to it a lot more than I thought I would. The shmups and fighting games in particular (with that perfect controller) make it endlessly playable to me. It just has the magic ha
I got mine 10 years ago. Man, it was so much cheaper back then. I payed $80 to get a modded model 2 Saturn (to play "backup" games) that came with 1 standard controller, a 3D controller still in the box, and 3 games. That would cost about 200 now. Get the console you want before prices get out of control.
Just a tip, but the Saturn discs are trivial to dump yourself. RetroArch has a function that does it for you. I just wish it would allow me to give the games a proper name.
nice video, just a small tip... you should put static images on that monitor behind you because that screensaver video makes the jumpcuts way more noticeable. Good luck with your channel
haha! good catch! I actually my logo back there, but then the screensaver kicked on and I didn't realize it until I was editing it down and by then I was too tired to redo it but you just convinced me that if that ever happens again, just redo it! Thanks for the tip!
I never had a Sega Saturn because my family was never well to do when I was a kid. My friend however in elementary owned a Saturn. I only got to play the console once in my life and the game my friend had was titled 'Yakyuu Ken Special: Konya wa 12-kai Ikusa.' It's basically rock-paper-scissors with a girl and would strip an article of her clothing each time she loses.
You have the Genesis 6-Pak labeled as 24 MB, which immediately made me skeptical as I don't remember any Genesis cartridges being anywhere near that large. Oh... wait I figured it out. The ROM is 3 MB. Games back then, especially Genesis games which made a big deal about the cart size, were quoted in megabits (Mb). 3 MB times 8 equals 24 Mb. For reference, Super Mario 64 was an 8 MB cartridge, as were many early N64 games. The only system that could have possibly had 24 MB games back then was the Neo Geo.
You are correct! Good eye! The youtube editor does not allow me to update the graphics on that part unfortunately or replace that section with an updated one. I should have written 24 Mb because that stands for megabits because the way i have it listed (24 MB) is for megabytes. I could have put 3 MB to avoid any confusion. I wish I could fix it. It's a lesson learned for me. Thank You!
Bought mine PAL Sega Saturn in 1996 and had it region modded and 50/60hz switch added in 1998. The CD drive still works great but now gets rested a lot since I bought the Saroo. My favourite games are Exhumed, Metal Slug and Dodonpachi. Probably my most played console although my N64 might have something to say about that.
ps1 star cruiser game also rleased saturn. You like those type game like wing arms then ı strongly suggest stellar assault ss japan only saturn game best techncal game that genre it recenlty translated english with voice even. On megadrive there was space japan only game called starcruiser it was imprresive come before starfox and wing commender. Darklight conflict saturn also smilar.
idk about blowing a shitload of money on a saturn...but I'll emulate it till the world blows up. So many great games - would rather play Saturn than N64 in 2024.
Got a Saturn for christmas 96 after being allowed to pick between it and the PS1. My dad gave me crap forever; "should've picked the PS1" this, "you can't borrow games from friends" that. Now with multiple consoles, a complete PAL-collection and a sizable JPN one... Yeah I never regretted that choice for a second. Current day emulation STILL being where it is even less so. My original Saturn is hooked up to my TV NOW. I doubt many people have their original PS1 hooked up when it's so easy to emulate with good results... My favorite single player most likely Nights; Rayman was cool but TOO evil for a small child whose Saturn's battery memory crapped out. Too many single player games to list though... Multiplayer probably Death Tank Zwei (though Bomberman is cool but NEED at least 6 people). Had duels with my dad in that game basically every weekend throughout our version of high school.
Sounds like you have a great collection! You are so right! My PS1 is not hooked up, I usually play my PS1 games on my PS3. I haven't had any issues with it. Bomberman! Yes! I never had the opportunity to play with 6 but my cousins and I would play 2 player and we loved it! That's awesome that you played with your Dad. That's a great memory. Thanks for sharing!
@@polygonlegends 6-8 player teams of 2 in Bomberman with the right people is, imho, peak party multiplayer. Recommended if you get the chance for sure. Right often forget that it can do that; was a massive shame that the PS2 capabilities were removed for the later models (forget why). Use a modded PS2 for this reason; don't touch PS3 much anyway. "With the right setup these games can look crisp on your modern TV" Going to expose myself as a crazy perhaps but... I have couple of CRTs (and like 5 more in storage knowing they'd get more difficult to come by). Don't touch a modern TV. What setup would you recommend for playing Saturn on them?

Happy 30th to the saturn. I never had a saturn growing up. Didn't get one until two years ago. Loving it.
Dude is rocking a turtles shirt talking about the Saturn definitely just earned my sub great video my man
I think the best “innovation” Panzer Dragoon 2 made was you could save your progress. I think that was a missed opportunity for the first game. 😊
Great video! I love hearing people talk about childhood experiences with consoles they continue to be passionate about. Subbed!
Thanks for the sub! I'm sure we all have a videogame story or two!
Subbed!
Glad to hear that you love it!
I was 10 in '94 and listed after the Saturn, seeing it in the Australian gaming magazines of the time. It wasn't until 2022 that I got my hands on one, thanks to Japanese auction sites. Metal Slug and Thunderforce V quickly became favourites!
I bought my first saturn in'98. Loved it
I Bought my first ever Saturn last year and GOD DAMN I´m loving it. It has rapidly become my favorite console in my entire collection. Such cool and awesome games
I love hearing that! What are some of your favorite Saturn games?
@@polygonlegends Daytona USA, Sega Rally and The House of the Dead. I love arcade games
Wow, I love your story! I'm glad you were able to save one. I wish you luck on your collecting journey!
It still kills me that the parts 2 and 3 of Shining Force III never officially made it out of Japan.
I agree! I think you can find some fan translations for those online these days, check out CD romance
Pretty sure I beat Guardian Heroes like 100 times, and put in like 300 hours into Dragon Force. My favorite system of all time.
Those are two of my favorite games on the Saturn along with Shining Wisdom and Deep Fear!
I totally get it! FFVII will always be one of my all time favorites as well! You can post all you want! This is a happy place!
Soo happy to find your channel! Can't wait for new videos!
Street Fighter.
all of those are excellent games! Virtua Cop 2 is great with the gun!
You're making really high-quality content! Keep it up.
Thank you! Definitely a constant learning process. I appreciate you, thanks bro
Sakura Wars is an absolute treat. Recommend everyone play through it.
I picked up a Japanese Saturn (model 2 in the white colorway) with the Fenrir in it off eBay. It’s awesome (and I picked up an Action replay plus brand new off Amazon for $40). The one thing you have to keep in mind is that the cartridge slot is a bit finicky and it’s recommended to leave to carriage (action reply, Saroo, etc) plugged in.
the bustling fan translation scene for this console is the best
Yes! I totally agree!
Those are all top tier my friend!
Mannnnn... I remember Galactic Attack too vividly. I LOVED it. I think it was kinda obscure.
Super obscure! I had to look it up! Looks good, I'll have to check it out!
I have it on the Saturn, but it’s also on many newer consoles.
@@WilliamSmith-ex9et I never knew it was on any other consoles. Cheers
A.k.a RayForce a.k.a Layer Section. A formidable TAITO game that often ranks very high in the best smups of all time!
My dad got me the same bundle, but it was a shelved unsold unit struggling to outsell the ps1. Out of those three, mine was Virtua Fighter 2, but Daytona is a very close second. It also came with a Panzer Dragoon and Bug! demo.
Picked up my first Saturn last summer which was my first sega console
The genesis/mega drive is great as well!
Radiant Silvergun is definitely my favorite.
Great Video! its good that you got that 4mb ram cart, some of the best Sega Saturn games only came out in Japan!
Thank You! They ended up getting a lot of cool games we never got here.
WOW! How lucky am I? I actually got my Saturn well over a year before this video was on TH-cam!
By the way, love your shirt. There are some great TMNT t-shirts out there now.
Thank you! I agree, there is some cool stuff out there
I'm glad the Saroo is exposing even more folks to the platform, the Saturn just seems to be getting more and more love as time goes on. As you mention there's so many new fan translations coming out all the time - its great 🤠
Here's one for you Mr Polygon, as it happens the only Resident Evil game I played was 5 on xbox360 😲so recently I decided to fix that and am playing through RE1 on Saturn and hooo boy what an introduction to tank controls haha I've struggled my way through to the dormitory I think it's called so far where these 2 giant green spiders keep jumping me in a room with a pool table lol.
I did the same but with a dreamcast. I hopped on a bus after saving a few paychecks.
Nice! Do you still have it? I still got mine!
The dreamcast was great for what it was but sadly, eclipsed by the PS2 and Xbox. My favorite game would be Shenmu.
@@polygonlegends I do like Xbox better. I managed to grab a 360 on launch day. Was very tempted to flip it on ebay with what they were going for lol.
I still have my launch Saturn. Along with my launch Dreamcast.
I was an N64 kiddo but I do love the 32/64 Bit Generation and I do like the Saturn more than the Dreamcast :D
I literally just got a Saturn with new capacitors and I ordered a Satiator for it. I look forward to it!
I want a Satiator so bad! I'm going to pick one up one day!
I bought a Saroo to my Saturn
I sell it for nothing 25 years ago.
My best memories are Nights into Dreams and Virtua cop 1 and 2 with the gun ❤
You can get a Japanese one from Japan complete in box for a good price, get the SAROO flash cart and your good to go!
I’m definitely getting a Japanese one to play Dragonballz Shin butoden. It was only release in Japan, I recently discovered it online. The graphics are so beautiful, it’s not talk about a lot.
Daytona and Sega rally was my favs back in the day.
But now it’s dodonpachi and strikers 1945 2. 👍🏻🍺😎
Daytonaaaaaaa! Me and my brother played that from sun up to sun down!
@@polygonlegends I still play Daytona all the time🤪 it’s a classic arcade pick up and play👍🏻🍺😎.
I think Dragon Force will require it's own video! There are so many layers to it.
@@polygonlegends it took me years to start liking Playstation, now i have it as well.
The Saturn has always been "the one that got away" for me. Personally I'm waiting for a modern FPGA recreation to get into it.
This hidden gem of a video game console will surprise you, I swear.
thanks for the great tips!
I always try to play Moon Cradle, but I give up with the language barrier. I really like Wachenroder and Cyber doll, though admittedly I haven"t gotten far in either.
Thanks for bringing those to my attention! I'll check them out!
That would be a killer deal these days! I have a white model 2 that's modded as well! I'm glad you still have yours!
I just got a MiSTer Pi fpga and there is a Sega Saturn core for it. I'm downloading all the Sega Saturn roms right now and the games are amazing.
Just a tip, but the Saturn discs are trivial to dump yourself. RetroArch has a function that does it for you. I just wish it would allow me to give the games a proper name.
I'm super interested in that too! If you ever make a video on it, let me know!
Working designs 🎉 so many fantastic memories 😊 everything except shining wisdom lol
Shining Wisdom will always have a space in my heart!
I had one decades ago. My favorite was probably Panzer Dragoon Saga and some Japanese games that I can't remember besides Capcom vs Marvel.
Still got mine from when I was a kid. I need to get the Satiator for it though.
Retro gaming is where its at.
Panzer Dragoon Saga, Sega Rally, And dodonpachi are my favorites! 😁
I love the back story
nice video, just a small tip... you should put static images on that monitor behind you because that screensaver video makes the jumpcuts way more noticeable.
You and me are the same in that respect. The game you played though sound typical 90's Japanese!
I'm still playing Sega Saturn in 2024
had a saturn and never touched it in years, bought a Saroo and now I use it all the time
It gives the Saturn new life!
Thanks for the amazing video bro.

Please make more similar videos about retro games and retro consoles.
Thanks, will do!
I already have a jp saturn. do i really need another sega saturn ?
haha, you are good to go my friend! Think about getting a Saroo though!
Dragon Force was so cool
Thank You!
What a great console.
I loved my Sega Saturn. I saved up all my Eid money to buy one.
Few of my friends had a Saturn but it did not get much playtime.
Once I got my N64 and playstation, those two got most of my attention haha.
I'm really tempted with Saroos being under $50 on Ali Express.
I bought one... should be getting it next week from China
The Saturn and Turbografx are the most expensive retro systems out there. As far as games there are reproduction copies out there that are cheaper.
I went on Ebay and a Saturn modded to run off Fenrir was $600.
I still have my original somewhere. Burning Rangers let's gooooo
I love Die Hard Arcade!!
That's a fun one!
Already have one. Actually oldesr console in my collection
Good games! Ocarina of Time will always make the N64 the true king.
@@polygonlegends Can't disagree with that. Still have my US import copy from when released. Great memories playing through that.

Panzer Dragoon Saga is my favourite at the moment!
That's a good one! You should also try out the 2nd one, you will not be disappointed!
Why you should get a Sega Saturn no matter the year 🤩🤩🤩
idk about blowing a shitload of money on a saturn...but I'll emulate it till the world blows up.
"With the right setup these games can look crisp on your modern TV"
Going to expose myself as a crazy perhaps but... I have couple of CRTs (and like 5 more in storage knowing they'd get more difficult to come by). Don't touch a modern TV. What setup would you recommend for playing Saturn on them?
Have a sub, but particularly Saturn games nowadays cost an arm and a leg. Silvergun? 150 euros. Yaaay
The second-hand market has devolved into total madness. Thank You!
Growing up in 3th world country, We got console for christams and in summer cosoles was sold because of economic cirumstances. Every time i see this lucky peeps that managed to kept their consoles you guys had a very privileged life and happy for that.
I know what you mean, I used to live in El Salavador and everyone that had a Super Nintendo in those days got it from a family member in America. When we came back to America, it got way easier. I'm sorry that you had to sell your Saturn my friend. I hope one day you can buy another one!
Model 1 Saturns are the best.
$69.99 is a steal for a Saturn! Even in 1996!
Edit: Holy crap, and you got the triple game bundle for that price as well??? DAMN!
Yeah! These are pre-ebay days! Do you remember K-Mart? They had a bargain bin full of 32x where I lived, $20 each!! They could not get rid of them! I hate myself for not thinking about the future and buying a handful of them.
Virtua Fighter 2 was my all time favorite, but it wasn't arcade perfect 😄
It was close though! It's crazy how far we have come since those days.
