    I'm going to show this to all of my 5th grade students!!! It's so good to see someone doing this for the first time and not worrying about not sounding amazing right away.

    • @Koryogden
      @Koryogden 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      an acronym you can use with your students is FEED (your brain) (from Rewire Your Brain by John Arden) .. simply put
      F - Focus on being mindfully aware of every detail you are trying to learn so your brain begins to wire itself through neuroplasticity
      E - Effort means activation of your brain to create positive change through experience - for example if you are anxious/worried is because you haven't got enough experience with better performance
      E - Effortless is when things start gradually becoming easier and more autopilot (your 5th graders wont get this but its like driving a car becoming a no-brainer , literally)
      D - Determination of continuing to keep up the desired behavior in order to reap the benefits of feeling better, more confident, more calm.

    • @samuelbrown434
      @samuelbrown434 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Koryogden wow! that seems like a very useful concept for developing skills. Although to be honest, i try to avoid the "Effortless" category as i try to avoid anything i would describe as "autopilot." I would prefer to be more spontaneous, at least in practice. But then i suppose i would rely on a little bit of auto pilot in order to make performance easier.

    Chad - I loved this. I play flute and I'm a beginner at Jazz improvisation.Thank Melissa for being brave enough to share the beginning of her journey, because that's the level I am at, pretty much. I see what my next step is - to really work on internalizing the chords in the standard 12 bar blues. Right now, I'm just noodling around on the minor pentatonic scales over 12 bar blues in the various keys (backing tracks on TH-cam), but I see that to get to the next level, I really have to start doing the work of arpeggios for each chord. I'll give it a shot. This was a great introductory video. I'd like to see the next baby-step video from there at some point. But give me a month or two to work on learning some basic 7th chords. Thank you!

    OMG! You've just revealed and tear up apart the simple, basic fundamentals of improvisation that I've been trying to understand for years and not a single "teacher" nor "musician friend" could help me to configurate. I swear to God I really thought impro was a magical miracle just few could attain. It's such a relief to know there's actually a formula or path to begin with. Thanks a lot for existing and sharing this jewel! From now on I'm gonna definitely be super aware of harmony too! Have a wonderful life, you really deserve it!
