    I love Haltech. Had my first experience when I was still a teenager 18 years ago. Hooked it up to a Chevy Cavalier Z24 3.1 V6 out of all things. Really woke it up.

    Good to hear you can do the 6 speed ZF. Does it support manuals in FG model? I know the BTR isn't great but support for that would be awesome. Compared to the ZF i thought it would a relatively simple transmission to support. Anyway this is excellent ECU, plug n play and also great for engine swaps. Back when we did the Barra Conversion the elite wasn't even out so we're using a PS2000 would love to upgrade but running 8s as is its an expensive step to go faster from here.. Great Job Guys

      @@haltech How did you get on with the FG support? I know it's been ages... and this ecu seems to not be being produced any more? But I have just picked up a FG MK1 Ute in manual and wondering if this ecu is worth buying if I can find one still.

    Hey guys, are these going to be made into a Barra conversion style ecu that can control the ZF FG 6 speed auto gearboxes? What I mean is in the future are you guys going to make a conversion harness the can fit the Barra engines and control the 6 speed auto? Or will that software be able to be put into a elite 2500 so it can control the zf 6 speed?
    Cheers guys

      Hey --- I could go barra, but was really trying to stay with the sohc engines from the 90's. As am aiming for "race car" rather than worrying about all the instrument cluster and standard wiring, guess I should not worry about plug n play in the first place and just look at the Elite standard still....

      This particular ECU is specifically designed for the six cylinder Barra engine. For the V8 you would need to go with an Elite 2500 and a universal wiring harness (which you'd need to wire in).
      If your car is an auto then the E2500 would need to be installed in a piggyback setup with the factory ECU controlling the auto trans and the Elite controlling the engine.

    The two things that annoy me about my '12 BF2 XR6 ute are the AM radio reception and that Bluetooth drops out, both when you start the car.
    If it were possible to use external igniters of a compatible type would this cure those problems?

    @jeffrey5718 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I got a question. I am kinda new to cars and stuff, so this might seem to be a silly question. So this is a ecu, does it make any difference than flash tuning it? I understand this is a seperate ecu but what it does? Couldn't people just remap the engine or trans by flash tuning the stock ecu? And for zf6 speed trans, does this ecu have some sort of pre-loaded tune in it to tune the trans?
    Cheers

    • @haltech
      @haltech  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are no silly questions! This ECU doesn't tune the transmission. The ZF6 gearbox has its own ECU that you may want to flash tune separately.
      There are many advantages of using this ECU over flashing the stock computer, such as:
      1. Race Functions like launch control, bump/creep control, boost control etc.
      2. Flex Fuel support
      3. Advanced Engine Protection
      4. Real Time Tuning
      5. Support for 2 injectors per cylinder
      6. Far greater tuning potential

    Just curious, the barra was released in 2002. Why has it taken 16 years for something like this to be released?

    • @haltech
      @haltech  6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Kinda hard to predict which engines/cars are going to be popular with the tuners when they're released. The Barra has been on our radar for a while, but we knew it was going to be a hard nut to crack as everyone wanted the ZF6 auto control. This was one of the main reasons this ECU took so long, we didn't want to release it with just the manual or the old 4-speed control.

    Awesome - a quick question for you guys: I have a 2011 MK1 FG F6. If I was to put a MK2 audio (ICC) system into my car, would this ECU allow everything to work correctly? As it stands, a MK2 ICC in a stock MK1 car does not work 100% correctly (issues with temp and heater controls, etc). I'm thinking ahead - because I'm about to do a heap of work to my F6 and this would be a huge advantage for MK1 owners who want the MK2 BT music streaming, etc...

      any chance you could run the zf in a BA model vehicle with the ecu?

    • @nathan2483
      @nathan2483 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Best way to keep the 4spd alive is run it manualised. Therefore negating the benefit of ecu control. They aren’t going to hang on much past 300rwkw anyway.
      Plus, If you’re burning 3k on an ecu, you’re gonna be running a better tranny and far more power than the 4spd could even dream of holding!

    • @haltech
      @haltech  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, BA ZF6 is currently supported.

    • @10GTE
      @10GTE 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess if you're dropping 3k on ecu only then you're aiming for bigger power and functionality, I doubt you'd still have the btr on the back of your engine. Seems to be why it wasn't a priority to program in.

  • @colta51
    @colta51 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Could this be used on a ba xr8?

    • @haltech
      @haltech  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This ECU has been designed specifically for the inline six Barra engine. For the V8s you'll need an Elite 2000 or 2500 - which will need to be wired in.

    • @colta51
      @colta51 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    3k? I might aswell put in a turbo for that price

    • @haltech
      @haltech  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes you should. And once you have that in place, or an XR6t engine then you will need to look at an aftermarket ECU.

    • @appletechlikes7075
      @appletechlikes7075 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haltech but why? I don’t get it?

    • @haltech
      @haltech  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ECU in itself does not make power. If you have a naturally aspriated engine then adding a turbo will give you that extra power, all the ECU does is help you tune it, control it. An aftermarket ECU adds a host of other features like launch control, boost control, traction control, flex fuel etc.
      In the first part of this video Scott explains exactly when and why you will need to upgrade your oem ecu to an aftermarket one:
