ThatGuyKappa this isn't something new. If you google it i7s have had this same problem since around 2008. They've improved it but it's getting worse as their CPUs become more advanced.
Hi! I overclocked my 7700k today with the following settings. 50x multiplier 102BCLK on all cores. 44x for min. and max 47x multiplier on the cache. Ram is on 2852Mhz with 16-18-18-36 timings. DRAM capability at 130% and CPU capability at 140%. The most interesting part is that I achieved 5.1Ghz with 1.340v with cache at 4826Mhz with 47x. The temperature at idle is 26C and at full load in Cinebench is 74C to 75C. In gaming I am getting 60+ in battlefield 1 in multiplayer, but the temperature is always staying at 50C. No delid was done. Just on air with MSI Core Frozr XL. The motherboard is ASUS ROG MAXIMUS IX CODE. When doing random stuff, the cpu heats only to 60+ degrees. In youtube i am getting 40C.
turbonut20v delidding's not that great. I delidded mine and I've got it on liquid cooling and I can't get over 4.7 gigahertz at 80 degrees under stress testing.
You've done something wrong then! I just delided mine a couple of hours ago and get 84c max (about 78-80 average) @ 4.95Ghz with a Dark Rock Pro 3 air cooler. Some chips simply aren't as good, how you delided and what you used may have had a mistake, and or you didn't overclock correctly.
I feel like that 1.20v 4.9ghz would = fail in rog real bench and specially in ibt. but if it was actully stable in more real world tests like rog real bench at 1.20v thats amazing
I haven't de-lidded my 7700K, it's at 5GHZ 1.328V - 1083 Cinebench R15, max temp it hit was 69 degrees during the test Never used cinebench before, am I supposed to just press run and thats it? on the cpu test
Optimum Tech h100i v2 - motherboards seem to make a lot of difference because they over volt a lot on the auto setitngs. i was in contact with MSI and Intel about it. it seems all manufacturers have done it - one setting that changed my temps was CPU PLL voltage - auto sets it to 1.3; i lowered mine to 1.2 and it's stable while dropping 8c
been testing my 7700k for a few days now, running stable on a z270 bord at 5ghz with 1.35v i have a "cheap" air cooler (42€) and default thermal paste. i did hit 89°c on cinebench but it never went to 90 not even after running cinebench on loop for 3 hours would it be worth it to invest in a proper water cooler to increase cpu life and performance ? I gues i did got lucky with the chip seeing other people struggle at lower ghz.
I just cant believe you get to 4.9 with 1.2v I cant even achieve 4.8 with 1.26v! 4.9 needs at least 1.35v and 5.0 is out of the question. Just "upgraded" from 6700k and am kind of depressed. Hoping new Ryzen offer a better experience.

That definitely doesn't sound right. Make sure your waterblock is seated properly on the CPU. You shouldn't be seeing any more than 50-60C with the X62!
Some NZXT X62 and X52 Krakens have a defect currently. Make sure you go into your CAM software and check that the pumps are running, I don't know why you haven't checked sooner tbh.
I've refunded it and bought Evga CLC 280mm and overlooked the 7700k to 4.8ghz and the temp seems fine it never got over 74° it's cheaper and it looks better on my system.
No issues with my 7700k out of the box, with all cores at 4.5ghz with about 1.23v cinebench temps never go above 65c and games average low to mid 60's with 2x 1080 Ti's in SLI at 4K. I use the Noctua D14 heatsink on the Asus ROG Z270 Formula board and the chip is not delidded. Temps at idle are about 25c/26c (room temp 19c), and at idle or load the temps are extremely close to even across all cores. The lowest idles right now though are 24c, 24c, 24c, 24c. I got a nicely pasted chip :D
It's all pointless as you don't share your mobo settings, CPU PLL OC voltage that affects the cores temperatures. Different mobos throw different voltage there and our results are all over the place.
I really don’t know if love or hate this cpu. It is fast? Yes it is... it heats fast? Yes!!!! Testing CPU OC stability in AIDA64, you must be joking or either rookie. Prime95 1h with priority 10 on custom settings with small and largeFFT 1344k and check run FFT's in-place = reliable test.
You need to disclose the entire case fan setup before you start posting temperatures. Your test methodology should include hours of testing and averaging. Plus, you should also disclose what the performance gain would be in real applications, people watch this and immediately think it’s a horrible product. In the current condition, your video is just revealing a very poor overclocking setup. You can not draw conclusions about an entire product line based on your minimal testing. Intel probably tested for tens of thousands of hours and this is how they decided to settle on those clock speeds. Just buy yourself an AMD. Seems more your speed.

deliding the 7700k yields 20+ degree decrease, one again the low quality tim is the cause of poor temperature performance
Yep, check out my delidding videos, I got similar results (-15C° in rendering, -10C° in gaming)
Optimum Tech TIM is only part of the problem there is a gap between die and IHS which is an even bigger problem.

PLL OC Voltage, yes.
