      The idea that God is an oversized white male with a flowing beard, who sits in the sky and tallies the fall of every sparrow is ludicrous. But if by 'God,' one means the set of physical laws that govern the universe, then clearly there is such a God. This God is emotionally unsatisfying... it does not make much sense to pray to the law of gravity. Carl Sagan

    Believe me, when you study astrophysics and start to look at the SIMBAD database and all that shit, astrophysics can also seem as plain and boring as studying financial laws, doing your taxes, or marketing.
    But thanks to Carl Sagan, there's a whole generation of astrophysicists who took on themselves the tradition: our science is special and we must teach it well.

    • @mike_nelson
      @mike_nelson ปีที่แล้ว +16

      I dont think it was just his intelligence, its was his wisdom too. He could take the complex data before him, process it and see it in relatalistic terms of the issues facing the modern day.
      Edit: when you have to go back to change the tense to past.. we have the privilege to watch these individuals back, which 99.99% of human history could not do. So perhaps he has achieved a small semblance of immortality in that respect.
