    I have bought DXRacer Zero for 400$ and I agree that it sucks.
    Next time I will buy ONLY some office chair or specific orthopedic ergonomic chair.

    It's just me or most of the people here in the comment section has no idea what are they talking about?
    I work as a Architect, I would sit for hours sometimes up to 15 hours and I tried gaming chairs such as Noblechairs and RXracer I ended having lower back and lower neck pain, Shoulder blade pain on rare occasions.
    In gaming or working my seating posture always the same, straighten back and lean back very slightly which helps me in focus on the task at hand. i personally use Steelcase Gesture Chair which is office chair.
    I still have Noblechairs and used it for watching movies and music listening
    Gaming are great as 1st when I try to relax lean all your body weight on the back and lower the back support angle.
    But then times that it needs 100% attention and concentration over long period I have no choice but to lean forward that adds lots of weight on the back(even worst if slouching forward) due the design of gaming chair
    Gaming chairs are fine if you are kind that of person love to lean back a lot, But I have a habit of having upright posture when doing tasks surfing, gaming, working, video conference... etc. The only time I lean my whole body weight back is when watching movies or listening to music.

      @Ultima952 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      in conclusion, it all comes down to preference, i play a lot with my gamepad and tend to lean back 99% of the time while either gaming or just doing pretty much anything on the internet, using a standard office chair and i simply feel uncomfortable quite fast so i'm constantly changing positions to ones that are more malicious to the back, my boredom kinda leaves me completely careless over it also, aka my office chair is obsolete for my needs, this video is bullshit(since it claims 'top' yada yada are crap i dont feel restricted in my vocabulary).
      There's pretty much dozens of types of chairs in the gaming section and most of the reasons pointed out in this video only makes sense to the chair pointed out there, there's gaming chairs that give you an absurd ammount of comfort that a standard office chair cannot give you and yet give you the option to make you lean foward, of course i'm not aiming towards one of them and got an X Rocker in transit cause it seems to fit my needs in both comfort and utility(and then there's even utility in gaming chairs, you can have a sound system in them for a surround approach to boot your immersion or you can have a chair that has pockets in them for quick conventional tools, cup holder, etc).
      Such diversity out there...use the internet, check your wallet and then do your homework...
      You simply cannot approach a budget gaming chair, at best, and make a video saying "why the top gaming chairs suck", i was intrigued by the reasons and clicked the video only to get hit by complete bullshit putting all laws of relativity in the trash can.

    • @xh0rsex
      @xh0rsex 6 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      No, it's not really that much different...
      The point remains that racing chairs are basically car seats turned into office chairs. Car seats serve a purpose in a car with a driver sitting in them, not as an office chair, which has different demands and needs for productivity and ergonomics. For ex. bucket seats serve little to no purpose when you're not being rocked back and forth, like in a car, and can actually be uncomfortable on an office chair, depending on thingsd like the size/width of the person sitting in it, and how they want to sit, like sitting with one leg crossed or indian style, which is fairly common.
      DX chairs also have no way to adjust the backrest other than overall leaning it forward or backwards, and have little to no lumbar support. This is okay if you are relaxing/lounging in them, but if you need a more conservative posture , like say when gaming or doing productivity work on your PC, they are well, shit... Racing gaming chair companies even know that this is a drawback of there product, which is why they ship them with those goofy pillows, to try and address this flawed design.
      "gaming chairs" are gimmicks. Just get a good, overall, office chair.

    • @Hirudin
      @Hirudin 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Witapro,
      Yeah! That's a cheap chair! I mean, sure, it's two or three times more expensive as a DXRacer, but it's still cheap. And that chair is shitty too! OK, sure, it's made of cast and milled aluminum instead of stamped and welded steel and is the result of years of engineering and revisions instead of just knocking off the shape of winged bucket seats (complete with seat-belt holes!), but it's still shitty.

    I've got both types of chairs and I prefer the gaming one.
    Good gaming chairs have most of the adjustments of an ergonomic office chair, I don't need or want to tilt the seat forwards anyway.
    Gaming chairs have nice tall backs and bucket seats that are great for long sessions, ergonomic office chairs with head rests are typically far more expensive and completely different in style.

    • @StardustLegacyFighter
      @StardustLegacyFighter 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The quality of adjustments found on gaming chairs are terrible.

  • @RealStuntPanda
    @RealStuntPanda 7 ปีที่แล้ว +110

    Gaming chairs are, mostly, terrible and they're way overpriced. Consumers don't know that because almost all the "reviews" are actually paid endorsements: the person "reviewing" the chair got it for free. And if they want to keep getting free stuff they have to keep giving good "reviews."
    That said most office chairs are terrible as well. There's an easy way to tell if your office chair is garbage: did you buy it at a retail store like OfficeMax/Office Depot, Staples, or Best Buy? Then it probably sucks.
    I would also suggest you get a mesh style chair. I'll never go back to a foam seat chair after using a mesh seat/back chair. You can work/game for hours and neither your butt nor back will get hot and the mesh is significantly more comfortable than foam because the mesh is firm but still shapes to your form.
    The most important reason you should buy a good chair over a shitty gaming chair though is the price: for the same price as a basic gaming chair ($350) I bought a Herman Miller Mirra (original) fully loaded, with all the features and options, on eBay. Just a few days ago I bought a brand new (open box) Herman Miller Aeron, again fully loaded, for just $518 with free shipping to boot. Again on eBay.

    • @surg23
      @surg23 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The only reason I will not buy a chair like the Herman is that they are a strictly ergonomic chair. They don't have a "lounge" function that allows "vegetation-mode" like other chairs do.
      The Miller would be good for intense gaming session, but not good for TH-cam marathon's or movies, as it will not let you adjust it into ultra laid back positions and does not have adequate back-rest height for this position either.
      Most premium gaming chairs and office executive chairs allow for retarded levels of reclining function, titling function, while having ultra high back-rests to accommodate this. The trade-off being that they lack proper ergonomics. Most of them only offer half-decent ergo's, And some are just plain damaging.
      I'm currently putting a Secret Labs Titan through it's paces, which happens to be the most ergonomic chair I've tried thus far. There is still a slight trade-off but so far I'm quite impressed with this package.
      I wanted to try a Maxnomic OFC but they don't ship to Australia and it would have costed an additional $400 to get it shipped through a 3rd-party carrier.
      Maybe next time Maxnomic. :D

Then one day i bought an ikea markus chair i found second hand for just 35 euros, and let me tell you... The markus was more comfortable, less noisy, an WAYY cheaper than the other gaming chairs i used. So for the same price point, (the gaming chair i had were 200 euros and 150 euros respectively) you can get a WAY better chair that doesnt have "gaming" in its name. THE ONLY benefit of gaming chairs i have found is that the look really awesome. They look way better than office chairs in my opinion.

    Get a desk big enough that you can put your mouse and keyboard so far back that you rest almost your entire forearms on the desk (Ergotron monitor arms are great because you can put your keyboard/mouse underneath the monitor, where its own stand would usually be, while the screen remains close).
    Get a chair without arm-rests (or at least ones that can be lowered far enough) so it can fit close-in to the desk, and you can recline fully with your arms supported by the desk (a foot-stool helps too). Go for a head-rest and lumbar support (I use a Topstar Open Art).
    Get a wrist support in front of your keyboard, so that the back of your palm is in-line with your forearm, and the tendons running through your wrist are straight.
    Get a mouse with a long enough, and not excessively curved body, so that your hand isn't inclined to cup around it for the same reason.
    Let your hands hang down completely relaxed. That is the ideal wrist and finger curvature you should have when they are on your keyboard/mouse, because that way none of your muscles are tensed, and none of your joints are flexed, until you actually press a button.

I myself don't have one but I came here because I want to buy a chair, I don't like those gaming chairs because they don't have mesh back, but I don't like office ones because the padding seat is shit after some times is going to be flat. You get what you pay for, there are really good office chairs out there but you'll have to cough up $500 or over for the cream of the crop. Most of the mechanisms you mention are common in most chairs the huge difference is in the quality of parts and build. Cheap chairs will look good and feel ok for a short time. Remember chairs have been around longer than gaming. Their primary function is comfortable sitting regardless of whether you're gaming or working. The office variety have been out there way longer have been researched developed way more than gaming chairs.

I grabbed a Secretlab Omega, and just two days of gaming in it has alleviated so much pressure and has not only improved my comfort while gaming, but out of the chair I am much less sore. The adjustments you can make to support your wrists as well as being able to lock the tilt to where you're taking pressure off of your legs (which your "ready stance" would kill my legs, lower back and neck just from observing it) has been a godsend. 3:27 That's the worst position for gaming or no.. for everything! Because you lean over to much with your neck/head into to monitor with this posture and if you hold this position for a long time you'll get.. I don't know how to call it right but something like a "bent forward neck" you can imagine it like a person stands with a straight body posture (viewed from the side), just a completely straight back posture but the neck is not 100% straight up and in line, rather bent forward with the whole head and that cause a crooked back! The Gaming chairs like "Noblechair Gaming" has all of your mentioned adjustments and much more to support your back/the correct posture in longer gaming sessions. If you use also something like a "foot pedal" under your table with an angle where you can put/press your feets against/on it, it'll also support yourself, to avoid sliding down and lose the straight 90° sit posture AND.. here comes the head pillows from all of the gaming chairs on head heigh.. they supports you as well to hold the overall straight 90° posture, because you can "lean back" with your head without any effort but still your head/neck is on a straight and same line as your back and that supports and help you to hold the correct straight sit posture without slipping down into a crooked sit posture.

    I use a gaming chair and for my particular case its more ergonomic than any other solutions. I am ADHD and i tend to never sit straight. Always moving in odd positions and it hurt my back a lot. The only chair that i found on the market that push me to sit straight is a racing seat. I know that its not perfect and this is why i am trying to move all my computer controls on my armrest (on in near reach) to make sure that i can operate everything without putting to much pressure on my back (like a super vilain chair :D). It may not be ideal but to me its the best solution for now

    I don't know, most office chairs seem to focus on 'ergonomics' 90* straight up angles. While research performed in the last few years has shown that this angle puts the most stress on the spine. Whilst 135 degrees seems to be the sweet spot. This angle is not normally possible on most office chairs.
    Obviously it might be harder to use the mouse and keyboard at this angle, but your spine is more important!

    • @brandoncoyle7110
      @brandoncoyle7110 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The best way to sit at that angle is with an Emperor 1500 :)

      If these were about 3k instead of 6k I would definitely use this over my current setup. I have a custom made sit/stand with a HM Embody chair (about 2k invested on that). I sit at my PC around 18 hours a day.

    2:00 Why not move the chair closer to the desk? If you lean forward and hurt your back and wrist, it's your own fault for having the chair so far back. Expensive gaming chairs have a lot of adjustment options and are still not really that expensive compared to expensive office chairs. Sure, they don't have every little adjustment, but they do have seat tilt adjustment in addition to the default adjustable height and lockable backrest angle. Some of these chairs get very high scores for being really comfortable and ergonomic on almost all review sites that they are on (sometimes bought with own money, so 100% unbiased), so they don't all suck. Maybe some popular brands rely more on hype and brand name than on quality, but others are higher quality for the same price as lower quality popular options. The only real difference with a similar priced office chair are the side panels on the backrest, which are frankly unnecessary and sometimes too close together if you buy a chair that's too small. Also, at least gaming chairs have headrests. :P

  • @snotset2165
    @snotset2165 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    if it's ergonomics it's just finding a chair that's comfy without making you crouch when locked somewhere at 12-18degree tilt. Now problem is there are a few thousands of them that doesn't exists in any store in any mall in my country not counting online stores. So I can't really test them without buying one first to see if they fit me. Additionally hard to determine from poorly taken pictures and details that are more often lacking than not. And then it's the price... right now I'm wondering about opening a new bank account to found a herman miller embody.

    Gaming chairs often dont hav a lumbar support, armrests are too far from you, lower seat is lifted so it puts pressure on your leggs for no reason, it has the idiotic design on sides which helps drivers stay in seat while people that play games cant relax in it. Overall, worst 300 euros i have ever spent. Oh and also, the back part of the seat where you lean on is soft, so it gives 0 support unless you lean all the way back and its hard to play games like that. Just a well made marketing trick

    This video is exactly what i am going through, as a 3d artist i do a lot of drawing on an intuos tablet and most of these crappy gaming chairs have the seat rotated backwards and since i lean forward to draw it hurts my back after an hour. I only found a few chairs that have forward tilt in the seat, the first is a kneeling chair ( heard it's nice in the beginning but hard if you going to sit many hours in it), the second is an Alera Elusion Multifunction chair. The chair you are showing in this video costs double than the Alera so i wonder if it's worth it.

    great honest review, most gamers people just go out and blindly buy the most expensive gaming chair in the store without even sitting on the thing or testing if it is tailored to suit their particular posture and body shape. Everyone is unique thats why the best mattresses custom tailored to the owner/buyer the gaming chair needs to be the same. It doesn't have to be the most well known brand it just has to be suited to you. What one person finds comfortable the next person will find themselves aching within 20 minutes. Comfort is objective. Thats why there is no definitive answer to what the best gaming chair is, its all about personal choice and personal comfort level.

  • @BlazinNSoul
    @BlazinNSoul 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Best gaming chairs have built-in lumbar support they don't need a pillow. Which frankly just pushes you out of the seat.
    You want something that is going to have good spine, neck, and back support. Can recline as personally I find that useful.
    Being as I'm both a console and a PC gamer. There are office chairs that rank pretty high. But unless you want to spend over $1,000 or more.
    Which frankly I've used some of them and they're not all that comfortable. So I'm not really going to dive into that whole debate. Overall this wasn't very inclusive.

    Actually, you should be able to comfortably play at 120º~135º the whole time, especially because you'll be placing your arms onto the arm support. But I agree "gaming seats" are marketing, for they won't accomodate your back as they should, even the expensive ones with tons of adjustments.

    • @TheErgonomicsGuy
      @TheErgonomicsGuy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the link. This information has been out there for a long time. The problem is that when you sit with a trunk thigh angle of 130 degrees you slide out of the chair or you have to reach for the keyboard and mouse. That is why I like chairs with a forward seat tilt. you can maintain that angle while decreasing reaching movements.

      @TheErgonomicsGuy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No I haven't seen the gt Omega chair except online. It seems to have the same adjustments as the DX Racer. My problem with both is that you cannot adjust the back rest to fit into your low back. Also the seat pan throws you back rather than holding you upright or slightly forward. A fully adjustable task chair may be a better choice although it doesn't look as cool.

    I have had a DXRacer for like... five years now, and tomorrow I am going to get a Noblechair Icon series, never had any issues with them, they do everything that office chair does except tilt forwards, and to be honest I would never want to tilt forward I would feel like I am going to slip off.
    I find I sit better in gaming chairs because of the high up back support I can lean back and get comfy where as most office chairs I have used the back only comes up to the bottom of my shoulder blades so I have to slouch forward, not saying all office chairs are like that but the ones I have used are, they suck.
    That "gaming chair" you are in as well just looks like an office chair to me, you should try out DXRacer or Noblechair and do a video on those, would be interesting to hear your thoughts.

      Good question. Not all chairs lock. Many are "dynamic chairs " designed to move rather than provide support. The problem is leaning back. Leaning back can increase reaching needed to use the keyboard and mouse. This can increase stress on the shoulders and low back.

    Agreed gaming chairs are over priced and generally not fit for purpose. I do my gaming in a Steelcase Leap V1 chair, it's the best chair I've ever owned.

    Unfortunately everything this man says is true. I have a 20$ office chair (very plain - no recliner, no armrests) and a dxracer 7 chair. Even with all the neck and waist pads, it kinda ruined my sitting posture (I seldomly use the reclining function). Also - the gaming chair is massive as hell, it leaves no room for movement. Now I'm back to my 20$ chair and everything is fine again.

    great video. helped me fine tune my chair and make it very comfortable. I noticed my accuracy in FPS after a week stayed more consistent after 2 or 3 hours and my rank went up in multiple games. amzn has some great chairs that are half the cost of the gamer chairs and will last longer. also note if your chair is old the gas cylinder can be replaced pretty easy, as well as, the wheels. they sell wheels for hardwood, tile, etc. I got wheels for mine that look like roller blade wheels, they rock.

    Gaming chairs are a matter of opinion. In my opinion, they look dumb, are not comfortable (I have tried dozens of different designs, so trust me when I say I am experienced) and are more costly than necessary.
    A standard office chair with adjustment for seat height, armrest height, readrest height and tilt resistance will do nicely.

    secret lab gaming chair is very comfortable. its also very reasonable in price like anda seat.. Those were also the days when I use to play this game on a gaming shop, And the fascination and excitement are all in my mind. Although the new dedust map is also good, and the last time i played on my new pc, I enjoyed every moment of it. The most important thing is my and a seat gaming chair, which made the experience more comfortable and enjoyable, just because of its outstanding specifications.

  • @Cybolic

    You do realise that pretty much every "gaming" chair on the market supports all the adjustments that you claim as the benefit of office chairs, right? (apart from backrest up/down, which is also rare on office chairs)

    • @TheErgonomicsGuy
      @TheErgonomicsGuy  7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Not true.most gaming chairs are height adjustable only. There is no seat slider, forward pan tilt adjustment, back height adjustment or forward back adjustment. Common gaming chairs will recline and the seat will rock back. While this is great for taking a nap bio-mechanically it is not very functional.

    • @Cybolic
      @Cybolic 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Partially true. Seat sliding and (as I mentioned) back height adjustment is rare, though not completely missing, from most "gaming" chairs - just like with most office chairs. I'm not sure what you mean by "forward pan tilt adjustment" and "forward back adjustment" and a Google search did not provide me with more information, so I can't really comment on that.
      Both common gaming chairs and office chairs "will recline and the seat will rock back" as you say, and any medium quality gaming chair or office chair will allow locking the recline, so what exactly make gaming chairs "suck" when both chair types offer the same adjustments?
      For reference, when I hear "top gaming chairs", I think of ones from Maxnomic, DXRacer or Noblechairs - all of which provide the functionality I've mentioned. In case you are referring to other types of "top gaming chairs" a clarification could probably resolve any future confusion.

    • @Cybolic
      @Cybolic 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I just realised that by "forward back adjustment", you probably mean that one can tilt the backrest forward / less that 90°; every "top" (i.e. non-budget) "gaming" chair that I've ever looked at has this functionality.

    • @TheErgonomicsGuy
      @TheErgonomicsGuy  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thanks for the clarification. Think of someone playing the piano. By sitting with their knees slightly below their hips they can sit in a more upright posture. This position decreases stress on the structures of the back and increase mobility of the arms and neck and efficiency of the lungs. Tilting the seat pan forward slightly and moving the back rest forward you can use your chair to support his posture. You can feel this if you sit on a three ring binder with the small end towards your knees your pelvis will naturally tilt forward and you will sit straighter. A good chair for office work or gaming will adjust to support this position.

    • @Cybolic
      @Cybolic 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I take it that's the "forward pan tilt adjustment"? Thanks for clarifying it. The gaming chairs I've looked at provide this in the form of being able to tilt the entire seat and then adjusting the backrest angle. I haven't yet seen any chair, "gaming" or "office" providing a separate mechanism to tilt only the seat, but as long as the chair can support the final position, I don't think it really matters.
      Now that we've clarified the terminology, I still think your video and title are quite misleading. Since gaming chairs really don't seem to be the issue, may I suggest changing the title to something along the lines of "Why cheap chairs suck" and possibly provide some examples of good chairs, gaming and office, in the description?
