Nice one!! I hope you don’t mind if I say some things: think about pushing up against the reed with the bottom lip for a softer, more jazz sound. The Bb key you pointed out: do not use the second finger for that! The idea is to put your first finger over the B key and the Bb key. Another fingering is two fingers for an A plus the lowest side key down on the right (little row of 3 buttons there). Tongue notes by gently ‘dabbing’ the reed with the front edge of the tongue. You are stopping and releasing the air, on, off. Mouthpiece: the further you put the mouthpiece into your mouth, the more of a honk you will get. Too little and you will squeeze the tip of the reed too much and it will squeak, and you will struggle to get high notes. I’m well impressed: you knew nothing, a few days and there’s a good C scale! Nice one. I really hope I’ve helped a bit. Keep on it! :)))
Great job on learning in a short time! For your neck pain, you should use a Jazz Labs Saxholder Saxophone neck harness. It's especially designed to support a Tenor Sax (but can be used on an alto as well), because the regular neck strap puts the full weight of the instrument around your neck and pulls down on it. This can cause neck problems whereas the Saxholder balances the weight around your shoulders instead and takes the strain off your neck, which is left entirely free. That will make playing the saxophone a lot easier and more comfortable, allowing you to practise for longer periods.
I loved this. You made it so unintimidating. I've had my sax for many years but haven't even learned the scales yet. I love the sound and can get sound out of it. I appreciated the info on soreness that may show up on lips, thumb, neck and throat! Awesome video!
As smne who's been playing the sax for 28 years and teaching it for about two decades, I can honestly say, you did fantastic. I'm actually impressed you could pick it up with consistency of tone after 3 days. Hope you'll keep practicing this instrument that can be demanding but very satisfying as well. Godspeed !
Liebe Nicole, wie schaffst du das bloß immer Dir in so kurzer Zeit so viele Sachen zu merken?! Du bist in meinen Augen so unheimlich talentiert. Wow! Ich freue mich immer wieder, wenn neue Videos von Dir hochgeladen werden. Dank der Kooperation mit Thomann und der Challenges merkt man erst richtig, wie musikalisch du tatsächlich bist. Danke und weiter so.
Oh man, this video reminded me of when I first started playing Saxophone. 12 years later I teach lessons on Saxophone. Keep up the good work, Nicole! Ich hoffe, dass Sie Spaß hatten! :)
I’m going to college for music education with the alto being my primary instrument. This really just gave me a good chuckle. I’m only about halfway through the video at this point but I absolutely love the fact she played it upside down at first
Noboby can learn to how to play the saxophone in 3 days or in 3 months. Just developing the correct embouchure, a decent tone and some technique may take months and daily practice.
Not really if you played clarinet before then tried Saxephone like I did you call learn how to play in 4 days at the least I switched from Clarinet to tenor sax literally on August 14th this year it took me 4 days to learn how to play Night on bald mountain
its not impossible i played clarinet for 3 year then decided to play tenor sax, which i learned in a week, for me it took 3 hours a day for me to be able to play the low register in a week aswell as learning the fingerings.
This is amazing!!! Just got a Saxophone this past March before COVID hit. So not hard to get the sound out everything but little by little. Please do more saxophone videos soon.
I have wanted to learn the sax for ages now, and I'm glad (and extremely relieved) to see the finger positions are really similar to the flute which I've played for a few years now - I look forward to learning sax in 3 days 😈
Flutes and saxophones have almost the exact same fingering. I play tenor and baritone sax but also can double on flute because of how similar they are.
Yes! Erst Violine, nun Saxophon. Ich bin sehr neidisch! Das hast du dir verdient mit der langen Zeit von Musik auf TH-cam. Bin so gespannt auf das Video.
You did pretty well! Setting your reed in the right place really helps. Bb is with your index finger playing the B key and the little Bb key (bis key).
I really liked the video. I am impressed by how fast you learned how to set up and produce the nice saxophone sound. Hope to hear more saxophone from you in the future. I did a duet guitar and saxophone once with a friend of a friend and it is such a dear memory of mine. Maybe I should try to contact her again...
thank you so much for your lovely comment! ☺️ you will definitely hear some more saxophone in 2 weeks..but I'm sure I'm gonna keep practicing. I LOVE IT! You should definitely contact her again ☺️
So ein tolles und lehrreiches Video! Man sieht welchen Spaß du an der jeweiligen Challenge hast. Ich bewundere dein großes musikalisches Talent und bin auf das Ergebnis gespannt. 👍
I play several instruments.. Banjo, Electric Bass, and Sax..first two good, third, could be better..but if she learned this much , in such a short time…I’m impressed !…
IGitzDiz Music same! I’ve had my tenor for a year and it’s for school. I don’t like the altos, most of them are annoying and alto saxs look like baby saxs which make them look dumb imo. Tenor looks nice uwu. This was cringey af but I made it through- but in the vid I have the same bite marks on the top of my mouthpiece ; I don’t bite to hard but idk how to not bite? ;~;
Jacob Bass that doenst change the fact they are babies though- and they are too high- I don’t listen to sax solos butttt I think tenor would be better since it’s high and low, and alto is high- DO YOU PLAY ALTO OR WHAT? ;~; but it’s just your opinion on how good they are- ;_;
get a bite guard, its a little sticker that cushion the mouthpiece, without it you might end up breaking the mouthpiece- for me they also make it easier to play and is just better
@meggokayzee6620 i sadly ended up selling it just a few months ago. I never had the time I was hoping for and I was doing the sax no justice by keeping it in the case. It found a more dedicated owner than me. I am still playing and have been playing piano daily although I want to give sax another try in the future.
For Bb there are 3 ways to play it. Button Bb, you use your first finger to push down the B key and the button key at the same time. Side key Bb, play an A and then sharpen it with the lowest right hand palm key. Long Bb, (people who also play the flute like this one) first finger down on each hand. I hope this helps, you’ve done really well in a short space of time. 🎷
Rachel Hoang that might be a sign of biting. Not sure whether you have been playing for a couple months, couple years, or couple decades, but generally you should never be biting your bottom lip against the reed
@@Coderedpirate excuse? What? 😂 Do you play saxophone because having an indent on the inside of your bottom lip isn't bad. That doesn't mean it's a sign of biting, you should be "Biting" your bottom lip over your bottom teeth. You put pressure on the Reed so it can vibrate against the mouthpiece and produce sound, if you just have your teeth bite on the Reed then it squeaks.
Chepe Gaming I’m not gonna force you to not bite your lip when you play but no you shouldn’t be biting, you should be pushing your upper lip to create a seal. Biting creates shrill tone and sharp pitch. Yeah it isn’t bad having an indent, but it’s bad because it shows a sign of bad technique and embechure

To take the weight off the neck get the Jazzlab Sax Holder. It takes most of the weight off your neck and thumb. Also, there is a stand by Hercules that holds the sax at face height. I use that for long practice sessions and the Sax Holder for gigs.
That little pearl in-between your first and second finger is called the bis key, if you move your first finger down a bit so your pressing the first pearl and the bis key at the same time and leave all other pads open it's another alternate fingering for Bb, and that one comes in handy when your playing a piece with Bb in the key signature for example concert Ab has Bb in the key signature and it just makes it so your don't have to think abt it as much, it allows me to play faster too, and at least on my horn (cannonball vintage reborn series) that Bb fingering is the most in tune for me since every different fingering for Bb whether you realise it or not is a little more flat or a little more sharp than the last one the other ones

Pretty disappointed at the other sax players here in the comments... she did a great job learning ON HER OWN and it’s not cool that y’all are saying things like “this hurt to watch” or “as an /actual/ saxophone player...” I’m an “actual” saxophone player and so is she... ya know, since she was playing the saxophone. 8:09 I think you mean lip augmentation. By the way, I seriously hope you are not going to have a sore lower lip. Your lower lip could hurt very much and/ or bleed when you play the saxophone. Really enjoy this video. Keep up the good work.
I think she meant it felt weird as in the reed vibrating made her lip feel weird i remember when I first started to play my lips felt weird bit I got used to it
Good job 👌 I have a small strip of rubber to bit into on the mouth piece , this can be purchased in music shops, which made it easier on the lips for me ,

If your neck is hurting try correcting your posture, also i advise getting a more comfortable neck strap. Your lip is getting hurt because your embrachure needs correcting, you should not bite as hard as to cause damage. But as you well know, it all comes with practice.
1: the position of the mouth piece on the neck is for tuning 2: a reed will last at least 1 1/2 weeks 3: the higher you go (musicals like higher like idk music) the tighter you want your mouth to be
Oh, I had to laugh so much a few times. The buzzzzzzzz. You know what I decided today? I don't like these kinds of saxophones because they are simply too shiny, LOL! Other than that, yeah, I too find them quite heavy. (I'd forgotten. Thanks for reminding me.)
i am about to start learning myself and it is so encouraging to see that you were able to get to making actual notes relatively quickly. I had always had the impression that the reed instruments had that as a much more significant barrier to entry. great video and such a nice incorporation of other elements to keep it engaging. subscribed!
Great job. What type/brand is the saxophone? How long have you been playing for? What got you interested in it? Do you own it? Do you plan on making more videos with it?

She has not felt the Bari yet
My Alto is 6 pounds and it's considered heavy for an Alto 😂
Leo P laughs in baritone
@@jessemiller4860 laughs in vintage tenor
She hasn’t felt the contrabass
1: the position of the mouth piece on the neck is for tuning 2: a reed will last at least 1 1/2 weeks 3: the higher you go (musicals like higher like idk music) the tighter you want your mouth to be
NO!!!! You should have a relaxed embouchure with ALL notes
Yes but on higher notes it will help if your embouchure is just a bit tighter helps come easy and for lower notes loosen it a bit
No. The ease of a note comes from air support. And it’s anything but the opposite. The thighter embouchure makes low notes easy.
@@lukevallieres1967 the higher notes need looser lips so you don't strangle the notes
SO CUTE
My lips is on fire, which means I'm gonna take a break now and show you my hometown. Lol you are so funny.
3:30 lol! So cute.
hahahahaha 😂
Oh, I had to laugh so much a few times. The buzzzzzzzz. You know what I decided today? I don't like these kinds of saxophones because they are simply too shiny, LOL! Other than that, yeah, I too find them quite heavy. (I'd forgotten. Thanks for reminding me.)
Is this an alto or tenor? I am trying to figure which to learn and I like the sound of this one.
Her tone is surprisingly good for a beginner
i am about to start learning myself and it is so encouraging to see that you were able to get to making actual notes relatively quickly. I had always had the impression that the reed instruments had that as a much more significant barrier to entry. great video and such a nice incorporation of other elements to keep it engaging. subscribed!
the white on the mouth piece is normal, you can buy a pad to place on the mouth piece to keep the scratching from happening
jeez, she's cute and fun, instant like
Awesome! Thanks for teaching the basics 🎷
Great job. What type/brand is the saxophone? How long have you been playing for? What got you interested in it? Do you own it? Do you plan on making more videos with it?
Hey! Did you watch the video? ☺️ I answer pretty much all of your questions in the video. You can find the link to the saxophone in the infobox..
