- Bere Island lies at the entrance to the magnificent Bantry Bay and guards the deep water harbour of Berehaven, in West Cork, in the southwest of Ireland. The island is just 2km offshore from the town of Castletownbere, one of the largest fishing ports in Ireland. The Slieve Miskish and Caha Mountain ranges of the Beara Peninsula tower over the island providing a dramatic backdrop. The island is roughly 11km x 5km in size with a population of just under 200.
Great video. Very interesting place and well worth a visit.
Thanks.
What a beautiful place! Thanks for sharing this lovely video.
This is the beauty of Ireland at its best
My gg grandparents came from Bere island, they were the O Sullivan's.
This is so amazing, thank you so much! I shared it, and I will watch it a third time, now in slow motion, as I think I saw our building somewhere below Hungry Hill.
Any time I trained there with the Army reserve over the years, we were always threatened with "7 miles long and 2 miles wide and I'll have you running it all before breakfast!" We never measured it but we did run a good bit of it. A lovely, historic Island. The last piece of the republic to be given back, by the British, to date. (29th September 1938).
My grandmother was born here! In 1875
I stayed there in 2015, walked most of the island.
My hosts at the BnB told me that the huge white yacht moored off the island belonged to George Clooney!
I think I had the best end of the deal though. A truly lovely place.
That it is , and if you get the weather , fewer better places you could be
