I thought it was implied In the first movie that Dracula loved his late wife Martha so much, that she was irreplaceable. Plus, I thought the characters in this world can only Zing ONCE! So why would they Give Dracula another Love Interest?! Look, I get that these movies aren't as deep as Castlevania, but I really expected better from them. Edit: Okay, you guys In the comments do make a good point. After thinking about it, There's nothing wrong with remarriage and moving on.
It would've made so much more sense if Drac had feelings for her, but shut them out because of Martha. This is gonna be a weird comparison, but in Ice Age 2, Manfred the Mammoth, has found another female mammoth. Sid and Diego, his two friends, are telling him he should pursue a relationship with her, and Diego asks what is stopping him from it. Manfred simply says "My family". Manfred, had a wife and child who were killed by humans and he has been alone for who knows how long. To have another family, another wife and child? Not as easy as one would think. THIS, is how Drac should've reacted.
maybe I'm taking an animated series too seriously, but the fact that they completely ignore the zinging once in your life thing is really stupid. she didnt even really help dracula move on from the death of his wife, dracula was just cool with dating again and kind of just ignoring his dead wife in the process. it wouldve been much more interesting if it was dracula who was having second thoughts about getting together with someone with mavis pushing him to find someone new. hell, even if they included the cliche of an unopened note from his dead wife revealing she'd want him to honor her memory in addition to him finding happiness with someone else. instead he just instantly falls for the captain girl with no inner turmoil or anything about finding love again after so long. whatever, I'll keep coming back to these movies for the entertaining animation alone, I just wish they didn't forget how to write good plots.
Really feels like Dracula just isn't traumatized by the murder of his wife. Like, he built a whole hotel and trapped Mavis in it, but now he's willing to marry some random lady (who tried to kill him)?? Like, I get Drac doesn't hate humans anymore, and he has gone through character growth, but he really should have been less willing to get romantically involved. And they really missed a chance for Drac to not only feel betrayed by the fact that a human tried to kill him, but also to reference his dead wife, who was burned alive by a mob.
if he had mentioned where his hatred would of humans stemmed from to the boat captain, that would’ve made her siding with the monsters make even more sense, instead of drac randomly saving her life or that one conversation during dinner. idk they could’ve handled it much better, but it’s a kids movie so whatever lol
look I barely remember the movie lol, but I definitely remember being kinda taken aback by how easily he replaced his wife. if I rewatch it and it’s less like that I’ll retract my statement, but from what I remember, they didn’t write it well
Yeah! It would've been cliché and I don't think someone needs "permission" to move on. HOWEVER I agree. She made this letter back in the day,Drac has always kept it but was never brave enough to open it. Then he does it and there it is,Martha assuming she won't survive the humans, clearly she wrote in a hurry, but basically if anything happened to her,she loves him,she always has and always will, and she wants him to be happy no matter how or with who,but happy. We could include captain lady finding the letter too,or Drac actually going into detail of WHAT happened to Martha to add to her character arc, realizing people who hunt monsters are hurting others,Val Hellsing is hurting others, she is about to help him hurting others. Humans caused a major loss in Dracula's life and that loss isn't any less horrible than the loss of a human life (I mean her parents did die right or are implied to be gone she could empathize there)
Oh Wah Wah Waaaah you zing once in a life time, how long has Dracula lived again? Oh that's right Several life times, if anything because of this fact he could zing several times or maybe the Zing effect wares off after a certain period of time that the zing partner has passed that it's then reset and allows the partner still alive to once again Zing with another. The zing feature is a flaw, if u zing with someone in HT and that someone dies you will live a miserable life of solitude for eternity in Dracula case, cut the guy some slack. These films were bloody brilliant
Given how much I loved the first HT, it is incredibly disappointing how bad it gets with each sequel, I mean hell even Adam Sandler refused to do HT4. I can't imagine how bad that has to be.
Probably would have made a better cartoon show than the actual Hotel Transylvania cartoon show. Just Drac and van Helsing doing their Tom & Jerry antics.
Yeah, its like X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Awesome plot idea at the beginning thats cut down to a 5 minute sequence in order to set up one of the worst movies of its age.
My brother saw this movie on an international flight, deciding to watch something "silly and fun" to distract from a little flight anxiety. He wasn't expecting the Gremlin airline scene! His next selection was well as Madagascar 2... another one with a plane crash. What the heck, KLM?
Van Helsing should be a ghost, it would be less criative, but that way they could had done much more: The Monster Hunter that became a monster and hunts other monsters.
I guess one cool thing abt this movie is the color choice they chose for Erika. The all white clothing and white hair to contrast with Drac’s all black clothing and black hair. Its a minor detail but it’s sort of cool. White is generally represented as the color of good, black is usually the color of evil. The human gets the good color while the monster gets the evil one, but the roles turn out to be switched. Its nice.
The biggest "Wow... they fucked up" part of this movie for me was the final song choice. Macarena as the ultimate feel good song. A song that tells about how a woman cheats on her boyfriend with all of his friends, in a family movie franchise, based mostly on the importance of family and love, and calls it the ultimate good song.
My biggest problem with this film is I don't feel like Dracula needed a love interest. We seen this too many times before with Ice Age Despicable Me heck even Toy Story 3 had Buzz flirting with Jessie. I think they should change it up and made that lady stay bad
I really hate when a kids' movie can't just let characters die. "YoU cAn'T hAvE dEaTh In A kIdS' mOvIe!" You can and should. Having everyone make up and live happily ever after is stupid. If a hero sacrifices themself only to be resurrected or "surprise! they didn't die" undermines their sacrifice. If a villain is saved from death or spared, you kinda have to lock em up in chains. If you let them go free, you have to give them a change of heart, one that has built up to throughout the movie. You can't just go "u saved me? wot? y?" because that's totally against their whole character throughout the whole movie. They could have been destroying cities, enslaving millions, or/and making deals with the devil. Saving them once is not gonna change their hearts. They aren't gonna just abandon their goals. **Spoilers cause I'm gonna do examples: ** Take Sisu from Raya and the Last Dragon. If she stayed dead, she could have been a memory, a legacy, a reminder, a lesson of the destruction and pain caused from fighting amongst yourselves and that the path to victory is through unification. But nope, fuck that! Sisu comes back and so does literally everyone who was ever affected by the evil monster plague thing (idr its name). It's like it never happened Van Helsing from HT3 literally had no reason to change. Other than the fact that his entire evil empire (of 1 person and a giant fish) fell apart. His second-in-command left him, his secret weapon was "destroyed", his plan thwarted, and he's now surrounded by his enemies. If he had any sort of group to fall back to, it would have been even stupider that he's like "u svaed me? wao, maybe not so bad". The dude spent years, more than a century fighting monsters. One save is not gonna change him. Especially since Dracula saved him IIRC and Dracula also spent years NOT saving him. I'm pretty sure his failures at the hands of Dracula are a major reason why he's robo man now. If it was me I'd be like: "please just let me die, you're just saving me to torment me more, aren't you?"
I don't get the werewolve's side plot. The wife has constantly pregnant for over 5 years, they've obviously had lots of "alone" time to get "wild" together
And since the end of the first movie they had contact with the outside world so it's not like they couldn't know the existence of and use birth control
They use a type of birth control on animals in the zoo, so they have controlled breeding and such. So there is such a thing. Yea it's so weird they keep having babies, seeing is how they are just miserable with all their kids who never age.
7:38 That fart joke was not only poorly done, but I remember that in the first movie, Dracula tells Johnny that when he eats garlic, his throat swells up. He said nothing about passing gas!
For a second I thought this was Transformania, I was thinking that Dazz didn’t even give it a chance! But now yeah I remember, I was cringing the whole time. Some of the freeze frames are utterly terrifying.
Honestly I feel like this entire series would actually be better as one of those music-only animation exhibitions like old cartoons sometimes were. Like this art style definitely isn’t my cup of tea, but the stretchy animation is fun to watch and with the amount of time they spend on visual gags it seems like if they removed dialogue and shortened each movie a bunch the series would be a lot more bearable and easier to watch for kids and adults alike (that’s assuming that kids are like how I was as a kid and didn’t mind using context clues to make their own stories for things like ballet performances and whatnot.)
I find it hilarious that the new my little pony: a new generation had better and more consistent themes about prejudices and acceptance of differences than this movie, while having genuinely clever and funny jokes. The animation is excellent in this movie though like you say, absolutely cannot fault that
A property based off a little girl's cartoon about talking ponies explains xenophobia better than a Sony Animated film? Ladies & gentleman, Hollywood is fucked.
I hate the hasbro pony franchise so much, but i've got to admit they put a ton of work into their stuff (and their fanbase does too) to make sure it remains of consistently good quality
Movie? Just this movie? MLP: ANG IT'S BETTER THAN THE WHOLE FRANCHISE IN ANY POINT. Even the fourth movie, tho it was unnecesarly delayed from the beggining, it's already so low compared to the MLP movie
The whole macarena bit made me WHEEZE because when I was at my friend's birthday, someone put on a 10 hour Macarena loop. We danced to 3 hours of it- no one talked, no one stopped. We all just numbly danced.
I feel like this would've been better as a short film. I have no idea what they would do with the love interest, but I'm pretty sure they could come up with something
The thing that annoyed me the most is that Drac gets a new wife. Don´t get me wrong, I get the lesson here is that you can always find someone new, but it just doesn´t work when the first movie and this one both had someone say that you only fall in love once. Frank said it in the first when Drac told the monsters about Jonny and Mavis and Mavis said it to the bride in this movie. It just doesn´t work that way
Yeah, I agree, I felt the same way when I watched it. I hated all arcs of this movie, but what I really hated was that he gets a new wife, it breaks the rules so strongly established in the first movie. If anything, that was the main theme or at least one of the main themes of that one and this 3rd movie demolishes it. I saw some people commenting how that's actually genious cause it's subversion, but for me, that's not genious, it's dumb and very irritating. Also Ericka was just a terrible, very annoying character.
@Laura.Gregori it's even less "subversive" when you learn that they recycled the original plot for the first movie (having Dracula's *daughter* fall in love with a descendent of Van Hellsing instead of dude-bro Andy Samburg.) It just doesn't work as well here when you had these already established rules, especially since the main villian is such a non-threatening cheeseball. In the original it would've been a lot more impactful for it to be a love story between Dracula's beloved daughter and the kin of his mortal enemy. But nah, we got this and the progressively worse franchise that came after.
the first movie's animation is my favorite, i feel like after finishing ht1 and noticing its own animation's charm they started overusing and exaggerating it so much it now just comes across as forced and annoying most of the times. also those multiple humoristic pauses feel awkward and kinda cringey, at least to me. one or two times are ok but then again they use them soo much i ended up disliking them.
This movie feels a lot like the despicable me series… the first one is actually pretty damn good cause they had to try, the second is just… okay and then it all goes downhill from there

Oh we haven't seen anything yet. Transformania isn't even hiding the fact that it's gonna pretty much be an over extended short film concept. I at least give 3 the benefit that it had SOMETHING to go off of. I'm still waiting for how these films are gonna explain how Johnny is gonna be around to see his kid hit puberty at age 113.
The movie may not be good, but the colors and animation are really nice to look at. The series definitely has a fun artstyle that has stayed consistent between each movie.
A couple inconsistencies the lore of the series; (I will update as I think of them) Movie one Dracula says garlic makes his throat swell, yet movie three it just makes him gassy.
"Van Helsing's beats are controlling the octopus!" "We're gonna use GOOD music to beat the BAD music!" Did this movie really rip off the plot of the Splatoon Hero Mode for the final battle?
You know, I’ve never really liked the whole “a zing only happens once in your life” theme. It kind of implies that if a relationship you were really into didn’t work out, or if something happened to them you are destined to be alone and miserable. I know that most people have completely unrealistic and backwards ideas about how love and emotions work (hell, the fact that some people think that divorce is a terrible sin despite it being a GOOD thing is proof of that), but that’s still a pretty terrible thing to imply.
Tbf divorce doesn't normally happen in the best of ways so thats why it has such a negative connotation because a lot of showcased examples especially in shows and stories you normally hear have bad feelings involved and hurt[adjective] people hurt[verb] people.
I paid a ticket for this movie and the moment it started the blankets were up and the pillow was out, I woke up at the last act of the movie. It was a nice nap.
It does have its fair share of annoying pop culture songs, and unfunny jokes, but everything else I love about these films! The characters bounce off each other very well. And the lines are funny. I do indeed think the first two are far better than this 3rd one.
The whole date scene with the garlic completely contradicts the first movie where Dracula says that garlic makes his throat swell up. How do the writers forget something from 2 movies ago?!
"I'm getting real sick of this evil EDM" Yeah uh Tiesto's Wave Rider and Seavolution had no business going as hard as they did. But it DOES go hard, and they are BANGER tracks. Period. End of discussion. Like imagine if Kingdom Hearts could get rights to Hotel Transylvania and Sora could visit this universe, AND THE BOSS MUSIC IS THAT TRACK. Sora and Drac having some dope combo move after pressing Triangle just right and the beat drops ohhhhhh. Damn. It would be the best track in Kingdom Hearts next to the opening themes lol.

On the animation. Wish i could find it, but someone on tumblr said something along the lines of: "I need you to understand that the hotel Transylvania movies are like if you got the most skilled, proficient automobile experts in the world and forced them to build a clown car."
Despite how this movie isn't very good, I LOVE the way the animation looks at 3:50. It's very cartoony, and it's much different from a static character model.
I'll be honest, I actually enjoyed Hotel Transylvania 3 when I watch it, but the reason is the same when I watched the other films and that I watch them as Saturday Morning Cartoons (which you said is an Amazing Cartoon), and heck say what you want about these films, but I'm honestly sick of how most animated feature films try so damn hard to mimic real life in the animation (and for some reason that worthy of praise) that its honestly refrshing to see an animated feature film series that actually embraces the fact that their animated.
i’d agree the only redeeming part of the film is the animation. Literally nothing else. The copyrighted music literally made by brain go numb when i saw it in theatres with my cousin
I’m so confused as to how they’re supposed to do Transalmania after this. Johnny turned himself into a monster to be accepted by Dracula because Drac hated that his daughter fell for a human right? Well if Drac is engaged to a human then that completely negates that assumption. Johnny being a human couldn’t be the reason if Drac married a human and therefore Johnny would have no motive to change himself. Also Erika is no where in the transalmania trailers so I have no idea how that’s gonna work out
I personally like this film. It’s no masterpiece, and it’s far from great, but it’s just a really fun movie and I actually do like the wacky animation. The jokes were charming and Genndy clearly had fun making it.
Same, I found the second film boring but this one surprised me, I actually laughed a lot. I still think this franchise would look funnier in 2D animation though
Sincerely, when Mavis "toots" and Johnny calls it cute, I DO love that scene. Idk for what reason you were implying people loved that scene.... But i think it's wholesome, cute and a nice example of a healthy relationship.
also it’s not really Titanic-esque. the only Titanic-related portion of the ship is the stern (back) of the hull and superstructure. the rest of the ship is more resembling that of the 1936 super-liner RMS Queen Mary, which aesthetically doesn’t share too much in common with the Titanic (and, ironically, was the ship used in that horrible 2010 monstrosity known as ‘Titanic 2’)
I have to confess. I know this isn't a good movie... I know I shouldn't like this movie. But I have an absolute soft spot for this movie. I just... I can't help it! Parts of it and scenes of it are just so god damn wholesome for me. I really love all the scenes where it's just the family hanging out and having a legit good time together. It's SO wholesome. And when Drac's friends just hang out and build a sandcastle... That's cute man. Drac's and Erica's date... they seem to legit like each other and... I also really liked the little scene where Maive and Jonnhy are talking and Jonnhy supports Maive but also points out, the important thing is that Drac is happy and Maive actually agrees so she has to put aside her own immediate feelings for her dad's happiness. Of course, all of that is thrown in the bin in pretty much in the next scene, but for how long it lasted... It was just wholesome. I can't hate this movie. I know I should. But I guess in todays world where SO many of these kinds of movies try to be edgy and mean spirited and so on. This one just... is not. It's cute. The characters are all sweet and legit care about each other so... I can't hate it... I might even... kind of love it.... It's my guilty pleasure okay! I'm sorry!
“I shouldn’t like this movie”? You are allowed to like any film you want. Whether or not a film is good is absolutely subjective and you don’t need to feel bad for calling this a good film. I genuinely think it’s decent. In fact, I actually think the hate it gets is kinda unfair
This whole franchise is my major guilty pleasure and I force myself to sit through the painful fart jokes just for the good parts. The subtle visual gags always get me
I'm gonna be honest my favourite scenes were the plane scene when everyone's having fun in the boat. Edit: And the part where they were in the Ocean it was visually pleasing imo.
What confused me is how they very clearly established in the first Hotel Transylvania movie that “you only zing *once* in your life” but Dracula just moved on and found a second zing????? This is similar to Ralph Breaks The Internet ignoring the “if you die outside your own game you don’t regenerate” AND “going turbo is bad” rules from the first movie because Ralph and Vanellope are seen in the beginning messing around in the other arcade games and get stuck in one of them but the movie never explains how they got out unscathed. Also, Vanellope basically went turbo and abandoned her game Sugar Rush to join the bootlegged GTA type game. I guess it’s true that you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain in Vanellope’s case.
"We're different from each other, and that's something we should appreciate" is a way better message to provide kids with than "We're not different from each other at all, we're actually all the same". One is realistic, true, and positive, the other is just delusional and will quickly be proven wrong the second the child has any real experiences in their social life. It truly is depressing when even a Trolls movie is able to go more deep with the points it tries to make.
My biggest gripe with this movie is the garlic joke. I am a huge fan of the first one to where I KNOW that when Johnny asks Drac about garlic, Drac says it makes his throat swell. It’s clear the writers hadn’t seen the first one in a while. I wish they didn’t throw away lore for such a juvenile joke. They could’ve had the assassination attempt fail by having Drac use an Epipen while not taking his dumb lovely look away from her, or something like that.
Really hated how this movie didn't really pay much attention to Drac's DEAD WIFE from the first one and use it for the central plot. Oh, and Hotel 2's fight scene was pretty bad so there's also that.
I dont know even the animation style seems a lot cheaper than before. To me it fells like its a sort of style between 3d and 2d. The characters look really flat and the shots dont use the 3d for a advantage or some sort of great visual. It was a huge let down because i really enjoyed the first and even the second movie.

I was mad about it when i found out him about looking for another love interest.
I just ignored that back then. Didn’t even realize the truth.. Just ignored it. Ignorance is not the best policy.
As soon as I saw that in the trailer, I already lost interest in the movie, what was the point of saying that if it contradicts itself
To prove Drac wrong.
"a zing only happens once in your life" *cuts to dracula getting a second zing at the end of this abomination
I detested all arcs of this movie, but Dracula's second zing is the main reason I absolutely hated this movie.
maybe I'm taking an animated series too seriously, but the fact that they completely ignore the zinging once in your life thing is really stupid. she didnt even really help dracula move on from the death of his wife, dracula was just cool with dating again and kind of just ignoring his dead wife in the process. it wouldve been much more interesting if it was dracula who was having second thoughts about getting together with someone with mavis pushing him to find someone new. hell, even if they included the cliche of an unopened note from his dead wife revealing she'd want him to honor her memory in addition to him finding happiness with someone else. instead he just instantly falls for the captain girl with no inner turmoil or anything about finding love again after so long. whatever, I'll keep coming back to these movies for the entertaining animation alone, I just wish they didn't forget how to write good plots.

Same.
Its nice.
Not quite as Erica never was evil but only influenced by her deranged great-grandfather..
But I must agree that the color contrast thing is cool.
I cringed so much during that part lmao
As a person who is fascinated by the lyrical themes of many songs, I can strongly agree.
I personally think it's cringe ANY time a movie uses pop songs. With rare exceptions, like "All Star" in Shrek.
I agree, they should have used something that causes happiness.
Edit.1: The "Evil song" was so much better and cooler.
**Spoilers cause I'm gonna do examples: **
Take Sisu from Raya and the Last Dragon. It's like it never happened
Van Helsing from HT3 literally had no reason to change. If it was me I'd be like: "please just let me die, you're just saving me to torment me more, aren't you?"
ikr.

So, something like Tom and Jerry?
I find it hilarious that the new my little pony: a new generation had better and more consistent themes about prejudices and acceptance of differences than this movie, while having genuinely clever and funny jokes.
@@Laura.Gregori Thank you. Finally someone else agrees.
@@Laura.Gregori You took the words right out of my mouth, I agree so much
@Laura.Gregori it's even less "subversive" when you learn that they recycled the original plot for the first movie (having Dracula's *daughter* fall in love with a descendent of Van Hellsing instead of dude-bro Andy Samburg.) It just doesn't work as well here when you had these already established rules, especially since the main villian is such a non-threatening cheeseball. In the original it would've been a lot more impactful for it to be a love story between Dracula's beloved daughter and the kin of his mortal enemy. But nah, we got this and the progressively worse franchise that came after.
Are they written well? No. But if there is anything great about this movie series? The animation is absolutely wonderful. So expressive

You know, I’ve never really liked the whole “a zing only happens once in your life” theme.
The animation is amazing!
It's the plot that is terrible and has nothing to do with the themes of the other two.
Flashback intro with on-top-of-his-game Van Hellsing was the best scene of entire darn movie
The Luigis mansion music is absolutely beautiful
@@machiko9633 Shut up bot, this is a movie review
i always thought that “ultimate weapon” song at the end sounded a lot like Astronomia (just listen to 12:30)
YES IT IS
Garlic makes their throats swell like they said IN THE VERY FIRST MOVIE. All thrown away for the sake of Fart Jokes 😒
hotel transylvania came out in 2012 when i was like 8 or so, now im 18 and i would have loved to see the movie mature with the audience tbh
Dazz knew exactly what he was doing with that thumbnail!
Gotta get that booty shot to draw people in
I was looking for someone to say this bruh😭😭
Oh my God! You yanked those words right from my brain!
It’s a masterpiece
Me too.
Same, I found the second film boring but this one surprised me, I actually laughed a lot. I still think this franchise would look funnier in 2D animation though
Same here
Sincerely, when Mavis "toots" and Johnny calls it cute, I DO love that scene. Idk for what reason you were implying people loved that scene.... But i think it's wholesome, cute and a nice example of a healthy relationship.
as an enthusiast of early-20th-century ocean liners, when i saw that ship in the movie…
*…i wanted to cry i hated it so much*
also it’s not really Titanic-esque. the only Titanic-related portion of the ship is the stern (back) of the hull and superstructure. the rest of the ship is more resembling that of the 1936 super-liner RMS Queen Mary, which aesthetically doesn’t share too much in common with the Titanic (and, ironically, was the ship used in that horrible 2010 monstrosity known as ‘Titanic 2’)
11:59 fnf mods in a nutshell
Yes 😂
I'm sorry!
Good for you that you like it I don’t have a problem but other people might be…..I do like the first one doe
You shouldn't have to hate a movie if you like it. I quite enjoyed all of these movies myself.
The subtle visual gags always get me
@@tinybubble330 the entire franchise has a total of only two fart jokes lol
8:23 oh trust me, I met a degenerate who would get jovial over that
Me and my dad LOVED this film we look old we can be entertained by marbles being rolled everywhere
PLEASE tell me that I'm not the only one who's ticked that Griffon gets a face reveal in the 4th movie
ME TOO >:/
"It's time to start a new legacy!"
"A monster human legacy"
Hold up, Mavis and Johnny already did that in the first film, umm what?
I think she was referring to her family’s legacy
@@jeffreyquinde6707 possibly, it just came off to me as the same thing Mavis and Johnny were doing in the 1st film
0:55 plot twist: they wanted to use 1987 but they discovered fnaf
8:51 trollface
I watched the 4th film yesterday, 80 minutes I'll never get back.
Really hated how this movie didn't really pay much attention to Drac's DEAD WIFE from the first one and use it for the central plot. Oh, and Hotel 2's fight scene was pretty bad so there's also that.
Me too, I really hated that, it felt so insulting.
@@Laura.Gregori the hotel Transylvania movies are complete shit like The Andrew Garfield Spider-Man films
The evil song Van Hellsing uses on the kraken is an absolute bop tho, like whoever made it knew what they were doing
the melody sounds a bit like the coffin dance song lol
@@vrota1836 that is exactly what I keep thinking lol
I dont know even the animation style seems a lot cheaper than before. To me it fells like its a sort of style between 3d and 2d. The characters look really flat and the shots dont use the 3d for a advantage or some sort of great visual. It was a huge let down because i really enjoyed the first and even the second movie.
As a ginger named John, I think you can tell why I was uncomfortable watching any of the series
remember when Johnny actually had a purpose in the story?
6:24 this actually made me laugh because of how ridiculous the music is paired the the animation
