Maverick 88s are great shotguns. I have the 18.5 inch and the 20 inch models. I prefer the 20 incher. Great shotguns.

Just picked up the 7+1 20" yesterday. Haven't shot it, but I like it a lot. $233 shipped from Sportsman's Outdoor Superstore. Grabbed some Federal & Winchester #1B this morninh.

Here to help! And no it doesn’t/hasn’t gotten in the way. It’s a really good attachment. I would definitely recommend it. Especially as one of the first things you do to your shotgun.

Is Maverick 88 reliable for home defense and what are its disadvantages? and thank you
Disadvantages are close to none. The pros outweigh the cons by a lot. One of the disadvantages I can think of is the amount of shells it carries. Mine is 5+1.
Buttt, you can fix that with using mini shells (you’d just have to buy an additional piece online)

@@Mustafa-AK86 thank you for your wishes. The national average for shots fired per defense situations is 3 so yes 5+1 is enough… but I mean that the only con I can see compared to, say even a small handgun would be that even smaller handguns carry about 8 rounds on the low end. Some even up to 15.
You never know what or how many you’re gonna need.

You're right. I have a glock 34 that I put for home defense and the reason for its large size is to use it at home and sometimes in the shooting range I am thinking of replacing it with glock 19 for the hidden load because of its small size and I put maverick 88 for home

I'm posting this question everywhere. Mossberg 500 and Maverick 88. Not the gauge of the shell but the gauge of the metal of the barrel that encircles the shell. Is there a difference in the gauge of the metal between the two or are they the same width? Anybody.
The maverick 88 and 500 are almost exactly the same. only difference is the place of the saftey. If you plan on customizing it/adding different stock then go with a 500 or 590. if you are going to leave it how it is then save the $200 and go with a maverick 88.
I don’t believe there is a difference other than the 590 A1 specifically has a thicker barrel. Both the maverick and 500 have aluminum frames also.
where did you get that side saddle?
I got it at Cabela’s for $45 dollars. I’m not sure if they normally carry it since they weren’t even sure if they had any in stock at all. I would say call or google before you make the drive out. TACSTAR Side Saddle

Can you shoot slugs out of it without changing anything??
Hey Sean, yes you can shoot slugs without changing anything out. All you have to do is make sure the shotgun can take 2-3/4 and 3 inch shells. The barrel should be engraved to specify what the gun can take (or look it up in your owners manual). Thanks for the comment.
