You missed it. L had a plan. When he entered Watari's room looking defeated, presumably that is when they decided to set up the computer that if it is left inactive for a certain amount of time, it will send a message to the orphanage that L is dead. His plan was for them to take over.

If he doesn't, then he will just blabber and blabber over every anime ep, not pausing and getting silent to think about what he's witnessed and craft hit-or-miss theories about them. I think he's aware that he's watched that contingency plan of L take place (i.e., send the message after some time for N and M to take over), it's just that I feel he's still waiting/expecting something else other than that.

That was the date when Mikami received the Death Note, along with 5 extra pages. Don't know the content of that pages, but was an amazing code to Mikami to understand he was talking with the real Kira
L's plan was to test the fake rule theory and his contingency plan was to have a secret message send out his true fate for his potential 'successors' to step up.

Did you notice how Light responded to the "killing lazy people?" He said that Mikami was going too far, and then corrected himself and said it was "too soon". So Light _does_ plan on killing "lazy" people too eventually.
How are there Death Note fans who _actually_ think he's the hero? Some people scare me.
I haven't seen anyone who fully agrees with Light yet, I've only seen people who agree with Light's ideals and think the problem with him lies within the methods and how having the Death Note affected his mind
i think he meant that it was too soon for kira to even have the power to make a move like that, doesn't really imply that he was exactly going to do that and it doesn't make sense since he was killing criminals only for 5 years without any problem and isn't the type to get ideas from others

Exactly Light did plan to take things that far as the world's dictator/God. People are sick and find pleasure in the evil that is enacted as justice.

You seem to be drawing many questions and conclusions from the fact Near calls himself "N".
In reality the name "Near" is itself an alias. Everyone comming from Wammy's House (the orphanage) use aliases, although this is less obvious in the anime than in the manga. For example, at this point you should already know that Mello's real name is Mihael Keehl, that's the name Light's dad saw and read outloud with the shinigami eyes.
Near was just messing with Light when he told him to call him "N". If L had not been murdered, we can assume that whoever he would have chosen as his successor would inherit the name "L". Also, in the same episode when L said Light could succeed him, it was explained by both him and Light that he was not being serious, that was just another of his psychological tests to see how Light would react.
that joke you made at the end is so funny, because light could litteraly kill for a burger if he wanted to, just write the name of a delivery person, then write that he will deliver a burger to your adress then die of an accident a week later or smt

I think the main message that can be taken away from Teru, is that people need to be mindful with how they form their ideas of justice. I think that when a person's disdain for the world's evil outweighs their love for the world's good, that's when idealism becomes dangerous. because you start thinking less in terms of supporting and uplifting people you love, and more in terms of harming the people you hate. and "people you hate" risks becoming a broader and broader category over time. not just evil people, but people who are imperfect. if your main focus is on hating any trace of evil in the world, you might end up fixating more and more on how mistakes taint a person and make them irredeemable, until no one is good enough, nothing is right enough, there's nothing that you can really count on to stay pure, and everyone in the world is probably secretly garbage deep down... except for you of course. perhaps you with a notebook, and the power to eliminate the world's imperfect people anonymously, without even needing to engage with their ideas or behaviors at all. with no forum to contest you, they are powerless to resist, and your judgement is law. it takes an extreme narcissist to believe that that's really how the world should be.
It really is interesting how Ryuk said in the beginning that Death Note owners were usually followed by bad luck, but it seems the good luck Light is having greatly outweighs the bad luck he's had.
Though he's also been able to mitigate some of his bad luck with just how clever he is. In the grand scheme of things, L found Light _super_ quickly. That could definitely be called bad luck for Light. Anyone less smart would probably have been caught within a week.

To be fair, L wasn’t exactly trying to eliminate evil. It was more about the challenge of the case, and the best way to solve this one was to appear like a force of Justice to oppose Kira’s corrupted notion of Justice
Ryuzaki was always hinting that Light would become L if he was killed. So noone was expecting L to have already succesors, making the one who calls himself L the prime suspect and also overconfident that there was noone else that could face him.
Light has always been irresistible to women.

I would say L would be a name that stays just like you think. I’m guessing N came because of the fake L
I think they implied that Near would have become "L", but he called himself "N" instead because Light had already taken up the name "L". "N" is also not known to the public at this point, and the public doesn't know L died, Near just used the name "N" initially when communicating with the the "second L" and the Japanese taskforce. He could have said "I'm L's true successor, and you're the fake L, so I'm just going to call myself L" but it would just have been more confusing, and Near doesn't seem to care much about pride, he's just very practical.
Theoretically, if N were to defeat Light, I think he could take up the mantle of L after that. And to the public, still nothing would have changed.
Yes they said he or Mello would be his successor, but other than that there weren't any implications regarding taking the same name.
Unless I'm mistaken the inception of 'L' began with the one that is referred to as 'Ryuzaki' which wouldn't be for that long since he obviously hasn't been alive for much more than Light Yagami.
So if there wasn't an 'L' before that, then we can conclude that the names would change each time that he found a successor.
The only names in which they would have to be taken over would be the other greatest detective aliases that L was responsible in the case Near and Mello taking over for L earlier than expected.
Otherwise the public would realize that 'L' can be an alias worn by many people rather someone who is unmistakably infamous.
People who worked closely with L enough to know his identity wouldn't be as fond of L if it wasn't constantly a different person. At some point the L name goes to the grave and it would need to be replace by a new generation genius.
Teru is a prosecutor, so he is very smart if he is that field and to read what Kira is thinking Light did definitely pick well on choosing him. As for Kiyomi Takada she did have some sort of relationship with Light before, so its not that surprising she would still have feelings for him. I still very much despise Light though because just like Misa he's just using Kiyomi as well for his own benefit. I'll let you have your theories and just let the show play everything out since we are close to the end. But I will say you sure are high on Copium for some of them theories you got. 😂 Still very much enjoy watching your reactions!
I really feel like if Light hadn't been caught, he would've eventually tried to create not just a "better world" but a "perfect society" or something. When Mikami says he'll kill people who don't use their talent for society and for people's sake, Light disagrees first but then he adds this is something he doesn't want to do "yet", so eventually he would. At the beginning I do think he started killing because he thought those people deserved to die and that the world would be a better place without them, but that changed very soon and criminals became tools in his cat-mouse game with L, he didn't even check whether they actually committed a crime or were falsely accused, he didn't care how serious the crime was, he just killed everyone, he simply used them. Killing became about his ego instead of "doing a good deed" very fast. And that's why he'd never be satisfied, he doesn't actually want a perfect world without any bad people, because that'd mean he can't use his powers anymore. He was always just going to find more and more excuses to kill more people, he was only going to become more and more strict with deciding who gets to live. I think eventually if no one stood in his way, he'd kind of come a full circle and start killing the oppressed, that he wanted to protect at the beginning. He wouldn't care about good or bad people anymore, he'd kill anyone who doesn't contribute enough to society, because he'd try to create a "perfect society" which would just lead to him killing disabled people for example, for not being useful enough in his perfect world. He'd stop caring about circumstances and kill anyone who ever commits a crime, which would lead to him killing innocent people who are simply in bad situations and don't have a choice but to steal food or do illegal business or something like that to stay alive, for example. He'd never want to stop using the Death Note because that's what makes him feel powerful and like a god. I'm actually really curious about what the world would've ended up like if nobody tried to stop Light. It would've been insanely dystopian.
Wasn't L's plan to prepare genius kids in the association so they could defeat kira? I thought the reason of there being and N was just because L knew he had to die for kira to be defeated, like I've lost the battle but I won the war kinda situation

I think normally the next L would take the name L, so Near or Mello would have become L, if everything got the way it should have been, but since Light took over the L name that was not possible and that's why N was established, with all the problems coming from it, we have seen it shortly when the head of the FBI and N talked to the president of the US to establish their special unit, when they explained that the current L is not the real L.

You missed it. L's plan was for Watari to click that button that triggered the ALL DATA DELETION but sent a copy to wammy house. When L died, the only people who knew about it was the Kira task force, and its not publically available. So watari sending that message is what let Mello and Near know that he was killed by Kira. His plan was always to pass on that plus the investigation data to Mello and Near for them to be his successor.
L's real name was not Lind L. Taylor isn't? L's real name could be Juan Peréz and still be L. Near just called himself N because Light had already took L's name.
Light's name doesn't start with an L in Japanese (though) :) It's written as "Raito" there (just in Katakana - not sure about that, though).

Mikami kinda reminds me of Rodion from.Crime and Punishment. He also had no problem with the bad people being deletes but the thing which was chewing him down was the death of the good one who wasn't the "untermann" he was so trying to eliminate. Interesting character indeed..
so i am watching this first time with you luke so everything i say are theories. i do think L had a plan. and my guess is that plan is letting light become L. now this might seem illogical but if you think about it, damn L is so smart. in L's head there were 2 options:
-light is kira(ex kira as well since he thinks he'll find a way to become kira again)
-light isn't kira
now if light isn't kira, he would be the best fit for the new L. and in case he was(which L originally suspected so much) he put him in a position he can't escape. the og L probably knew that the orphanage organization were sending someone as soon as they realized L died. so that would put him on the front lines. he also can't decide to quit being L as this would be suspicious. so it seems as if L realized he can't win since light has a shinigami on his side and decided to do his best to pass the baton to someone light can't reach.

When light said it's "too soon" when Mikami's Kira laws implied that it would get rid of people that didn't contribute enough to society shows how far light plans to take his God of earth plans.
Oddly enough it sounds quite similar to what is possible in our world as well with the induction of smart cities , and China's social score system. 😨😏😂
It didn't really seem to me like Takada and Light had that much interest in each other in college, it felt like they dated mostly just because they were the two best students at their college (besides L, I guess), though I remember Takada sometimes seeming a bit annoyed by how distant and uninterested Light seemed while they were going out. Maybe she really was more interested in him than she let on (she was described as being proud), but I do wonder if her interest and respect is mostly based on the fact that he's intelligent (and good-looking apparently) and not so much his personality 😂

Day 2 of recommending the Beyblade openings.
There are the Japanese ones and the English ones. The English version has one opening for a generation, and that for the 1st and 2nd generation. The 3rd gen has one op for one season. But the Japanese version has multiple ops for a season in any gen. You should definitely check both versions out. I made playlists on my channel, so you don't need to search, cause in those compilations are a few off and not in the correct order. Thanks for checking out!

By far my favourite part about this part of the story is how we get to see kind of light mixed with L but in two different ways in Mellow and this new character
tbh, I think Near is part of it too. like... L always said that he and Light were similar in some ways. so when you ask yourself what separates the two of them, aside from a magic book... I think it's collaboration. Light doesn't want opinions outside his own. he'll use people, but he won't defend them, and he thinks of them as disposable (Rem, Misa, his family, etc.) and by contrast, L has a much more emotionally relevant relationship with the task force. he relies on them to be emotional when he can only think of things logically, and you can tell he respects them for that. even if their emotions are illogical sometimes, and it forces each of them to argue for the validity of their own perspective sometimes... L wants them to stay that way. if they are the way they are, and he is the way he is, and they have to find a way to coexist while continuing to be different... they all come out better for it.
Near and Mellow don't play well with others. not each other, or the people they use to prop up their plans. Teru doesn't either... he's also a lone wolf, which benefits no one. in a way, you can tell L lost because he was the only smart guy so far, who was really concerned with maintaining the emotional side of things... even if that wasn't embodied in himself. and with the death of Soichiro Yagami, there are now very few representatives of that side of the story left.
what we're left with is a bunch of prideful, bickering children... each is a loose canon in their own rite, and while you can tell which of them are working for the sake of ending the reign of Kira... none of them are really working for the betterment of humanity first and foremost. it's less about creating a better future for the sake of the world, and more about being the one who can take credit for doing that. they're just trying to win. and it makes me nervous for people like Aizawa, Mogi, and Matsuda. I think they believe in bettering the lives of normal people because they are normal people. they've stepped up to do something extraordinary, but they know who they're doing it for... and it isn't just themselves.
As humans we battle with good and evil in this life, so long as we have free will we are able to constantly change the way that we think as well as the actions that we take.
Therefore we exist in a grey area between light and darkness in which we are constantly being pulled toward darkness; though some of us who don't view good/evil as subjective continue to walk towards the light.
Those of us who are not as concerned or consciously aware of what is good and what is evil are called 'Lukewarm' no pun intended. 😏😉

I'm all for him reacting to season one if he would take season two to the twitch slot. Season two just didn't feel as exciting or intriguing for me.

Light cheating on Misa never bothered me because in my eyes, they were never really together
to begin with. He's been using her since they started going on and I don't think he's ever liked her
romantically. He just makes her think he does so he can use her.
I could be wrong but I think he really likes his college friend even though he plans on using
her at the same time. Although the way he is right now, I don't think he's capable of liking anyone
right now except for people most useful to him which is Mikami and his old college girl friend.

On the subject of you starting Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood soon , I just want to warn you that while the storyline of FMAB is all around better, the show assumes you have already seen Fullmetal Alchemist, and as a result a lot of early character building is glanced over or cut entirely. Just giving you a heads up because when you watch that and inevitably say "how does that work?", I'll be in the comments saying that it was explained in FMA.
