    I think the passive income was a large part of the key to your success more than the savings. And young enough still to not have a ton of medical issues etc. the stubbornness or willfulness to not give up also probably benefited a lot as you refused to quit and found a way to make it work. Good job 👍

      The 1900 monthly shrank each year as did the 17K. It's outside of conventional Western thinking to retire with such little money. But there are some things bigger than money.

    • @marksjourneytothephilippin9574
      @marksjourneytothephilippin9574 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yeah that’s still very impressive. Most “experts” as you call them would recommend over 100k+ in savings easily. Even a 10% dividend (which isn’t exactly safe) would give you 10k a year or about $700-800 a month. 5% dividend would be much safer but that would require $200k for the same amount. Or 400k savings for $1.6k a month. No wonder so many people never visit or make it there. And that’s not even counting a lot of the best dividend stocks safety wise only give 1-3%.
      You brought up a great point about never being ready, some people over plan everything and set up huge unrealistic goals. My ex wife was like that. I told her we would never have kids bc we’d quote never be able to afford it according to her mindset. But lots of people had kids way poorer than us. It’s all about mentality. Now still have a plan and some money but you’re right a lot of these experts say you need way more than you really do.

    • @fendermon
      @fendermon 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My math shows 400,000 * .06 (a middling dividend and principle draw range) = $24,000 * .88 (federal tax) =21,000 /12 months= $1760. That's how I understand it while paying around 12% federal tax, and somehow not paying any state retirement taxes. I like your post because I like to play with numbers and scenarios. Of course if you change the starting savings or drawdown rate everything changes. Nobody really knows what a safe drawdown rate is. Dave Ramsey lit up the internet when he recently said an 8% drawdown on retirement accounts was fine.@@marksjourneytothephilippin9574

      Hello. 160k is a lot of money here and it all depends on your lifestyle. Coming from the West you're probably looking at 2000 dollars per month, but that's just a guess. Is your money in an interest bearing account? I would try to find a job that would allow you to work remotely. Depending on your content, a TH-cam channel could generate some money. You also need 4000 watch time hours which is more difficult to accumulate than 1000 subs. 27 is very young. Do you plan to remain single? Sharing expenses with a partner or roommate will save money too. Good luck with your decisions going forward.

      Invest it or at the very least put it in a high interest savings account and then go for a holiday first. At 27 you have lots of time to see the lay of the land as we say and to decide if it is for you. If you love it then you can start to make permanent plans. Just be sure that you have more than enough to stay forever, it really sucks to run out of money and have to start over. Sounds like you have family there so you would do better than most expats on expenses. Income required is always very specific to you, some people can live very comfortable on $500 a month (me) other seem to need THOUSANDS. Go there and live "your comfortable" for a month and keep a spread sheet of everything you spend. (exclude the I am on holiday items) :)

    Wow..glad you made the life you want..but I would be scared to death..even in the Philippines to retire with only 17k dollars and only 1900 a month....but glad you made it and are happy...I always watch your video's. I've been to the Philippines 4 times now and going back this April for another visit for a bit. I have 2 years til retirement and plan on staying in the Philippines when Im finally free for a bit to spend time with my girlfriend there....but I won't live there and will marry my girlfriend in the U.S. I love the U.S. and my home too much to leave, but I really enjoy the Philippines when I'm there.

    Once you set a determined mental, spiritual goal, burn the boats that you came with, put it out in the universal and get out of the way, the universal order ( along with your own blood, sweat and tears) will start to take over and lead you on the path that you desire. Its as simple as that. Ive experienced the magic many times in my life.
