    pulling the motor again eh? awesome project. I have been following you for several years now and you continue to provide quality content. I also just checked out your info site again and man its amazing!! so much information in one place and a needle comparison chart that work in a browser!

    We all have friends in the Mini community who accumulate more cars than anyone can possibly handle. Thrilled to see the opposite approach taken here to make a gem out of a single treasured car - since you can only drive one at a time. Great to see KAD, HRE, 7, Haltech, Bagsport and the rest aboard. I bet we'll run into Newton Commercial and MED as this progresses. Not shown: language, band-aids and neighbor complaints from the soda blasting.

      I really would love to make this car the culmination of the entire mini community. Could be a really great way to showcase all the amazing things this community has to offer.I should buy stock in bandaids

    I'm forward to the re-build series to come, very exciting! I am going to pay particular attention to the electrical as I am hoping to do the same with my build as well.

    Cole, this is a very exciting next chapter!
    Would love to see the steps you take to take this restoration to the next level.
    Especially when it comes to preparing and coating components. Xylan coated parts for the underside components etc.

      Never seen Xylan coating before. Gonna have to explore that!

      @@classicminidiy something I’ve picked up following the Retropower channel. We know the comments of rust, etc and this is a very hardwearing coating they like to use for underbody components.

    Do you plan to change the accelerator pedal to something like a Bosch pedal and figure out to attach it to the original location? Or do you plan to keep the original pedal and use something like an Acura TSX Pedal Position Sensor?

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven’t decided yet. I have a Holley DBW pedal I might modify to suit but the Acura part might work too. I think the fully encompassed pedal might be tidier though. Choices choices!

    • @murty4471
      @murty4471 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@classicminidiy Definitely cleaner if you can get the DBW pedal to fit well.

      @@classicminidiy I'm currently adapting a set of 2020 Yamaha YZF R6 ride-by-wire individual throttle bodies to an Arden 8-port cylinder head. They are 41mm butterflies, and the difference in the overall inlet spacing (between cyl 1 and cyl 4) is only 2.5mm. But because of the uneven port spacing of the Arden head, I need to make some inlet stub adapters to join the head to the throttle bodies. Another cool feature is that the throttle bodies have an integrated pedal position sensor, so I can connect my original throttle cable directly to the throttle bodies and keep the original pedal.

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s really cool. I would love to see photos of the setup if you wanna send some. I bet it’s gonna be a blast to drive when you’re done. classicminidiy@gmail.com That’s what I’ve got on my car right now although it’s a unit I produce. I like the setup I have but I want the really fine idle control I can get with with drive by wire.

    Personally think that the lack of an ECU is the charm of the mini. Will watch in case you can change my mind.

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I love electronics and ECUs. But I also don’t want to see them. My goal is to hide everything so when you open the hood aside from the throttle body it won’t have a bunch of wires everywhere. Gonna be tough, but I want as close to a “naked engine bay” as I can with EFI.

    Each to his own, but this sounds terrifying. The original mini is gloriously free of electronics: the idea of changing that destroys the car’s appeal to me. Horrors!

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  ปีที่แล้ว

      I love electronics. They enable so many amazing and exciting things. The original carb setup is beautifully simple but the EFI setup is beautifully expansive and offers so many improvements over the original setup. I definitely appreciate and understand the appeal of the original carb setups though.
