    I know that some people may know this but you should try blowing into the gampad stick before you try this. there was something wrong with my gamepad to but it wouldn't go in one direction. mine would go diagonally to the left if i pressed up and would occasionally go to the right and resist my other movements. but that all went away when i blew in it. so try that first.

    Thank you, my Wii U game pad left stick has been acting up since 2015. This is the best tutorial I have seen because you get straight to the point instead of dancing around it. My new stick is fully operational.

    I am a school counselor at an elementary school and use Wii U mario kart to make connections and build relationships with the kiddos I work with. The middle school found out about the Mario Kart and they wanted a Wii U for their school as well. I came across another Wii U but the left analog stick was broken. This video helped me get it fixed and now another school will be able to use the magic of video games to make those necessary connections.
    Great tutorial, worked like a champ!

    This video was very helpful. Ive had my Wii U a LONG Time now and its a Limited Edition Legend of Zelda one so I have no intention to EVER stop playing it being I also have Every Single Legend of Zelda game available on Wii U on it Up To BotW. So I plan to keep playing around on it for many years to come. Id of loved a video on how to actually fix the Joystick component....Its very different from the N64 and Game Cube joystick Components which I know how to take apart and fix. So I had hoped to learn how to open the actual joystick component up and repair it but its helpful to know exactly how to open up the Wii U and replace components in general so yeah this was very helpful!! Thanks a Bunch For Making It!! 😀👍

    Good video. My original gamepad broke and i got a replacement second hand but the replacement has bad drift. Just transplanted the good stick out of the old pad and it works great now. I noticed, my old one had a black plastic bracket holding the stick in place while the new one was white like in the video. Mine wasnt bought at launch but a good bit later as a christmas gift when i was still a kid and couldnt afford games for myself. Its just conjecture but i wonder if the issue is worse with whichever model used the white brackets but tbh im just talking out my ass cuz i just happened to see 2 of them like that. Anyways back to cranking out the metroid series on wiiu Virtual Console to prepare for Dread and Prime 4. It is late and i am delerious.

    Unfortunately, the Wii U i just purchased from someone on marketplace has an analog stick issue. For example, when you turn the console on, it's as if someone is holding the right analog stick up and to the right. If you perform the reset (holding down a, b, plus, and minus) they then work normally as they should, however, each time I turn the console on it goes right back to having that problem again. At my wits end. I have attempted to clean the area with compressed air to no avail. Why would it work fine after doing the reset, but revert back to the same problem every time a new reboot occurs?

    Man, I cannot thank you enough for this! My Gamepad's left stick started developing the problem around the later half of last year. It seemed weird, but not to the point where I thought it was a big deal. As time rolled into this year, things started getting REALLY bad, so I was all worried that I'd have to find some way to send it to Nintendo or something. I thought that fixing it myself would be far too difficult, so I didn't even bother researching.
    When it got really bad (to the point where I just couldn't play most of my games anymore), I went ahead and took a look around and then I found your video. I got the replacement parts, as well as a tri-wing screwdriver (never heard of it prior to dealing with this), and followed your steps. It didn't take me 10 minutes, like you (darn tight screws), but within about an hour it was all done.
    Sorry for the long reply, but I just gotta say thanks, again!

    • @jaymeeyben4071
      @jaymeeyben4071  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      haha no worries, the only reason it took me so little time was becauae i had most of my screws undone or loose in the gamepad to speed up the video. Calling nintendo never helped me with my issue when i had it, so online pictures was my saviour. im happy to be able to help out :)

I followed this tutorial to a tee, screwed everything back in, my y axis won't move regardless of what joystick I put in there. Maybe I just have a defective Wii U?

    • @jaymeeyben4071
      @jaymeeyben4071  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      The same was woth mine. Calling NIntendo was no help. after I replaced the piece i cleaned the broken one and put it back in to see if it would work still, but it didn't. So the soft reset would have no effect whatsoever.

    • @jaymeeyben4071
      @jaymeeyben4071  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It may depending on what exactly broke inside of your wii u. my guess is maybe some wires got disconnected and all you really need to do it put them back into their place. try taking it all apart like i did in the video, but with the same L stick piece put it all back together. if it still doesnt work id suggest buying the new piece to see if that would solve the problem. I only payed $8 for both right/left analog stick replacements

    You dont necessarily have to buy a replacement part. I managed to fix my sticks weird behaviour by soaking it in Isopropyl alcohol which got rid of a lot of gunk, but unfortunately also the grease inside so you need to reaply some as well or youll have a stick that behaves rather squeaky

    How long did this repair last? I bought a Wii U - used (I know the switch is out, I thought it'd be a great time to play a library of games that I missed. I don't see Mario Maker for instance coming to the Switch)
    Anyways, playing Xenoblade X and my character keeps walking forward or backward even after the stick is centered. I tried resetting the calibration, tried cleaning it and blowing it out and it's clear the stick is faulty and needs replaced.
    I'm just wondering how long these stupid things last, will I be doing this every two years?

    Hi, great vid. I've already changed the Analog Stick but the issue persists. Any idea of what should i do? Thanks for the help.

      look in the corners of the Gamepads screen, thare maybe dust or dirt in thare, if you see dirt/dust in the corners then (this might sound weird) take a tooth brush and rub the corners and the dirt should come out and it should be good to go
      hope I helped :)

    I hate to say that I got my replacement and when i took it all apart the wire from the analog stick to the Wii U gamepad was hardwired into the analog stick. I could not remove it. So I guess I'm kind of screwed.

      Are you sure it doesn't just seem like it? maybe look at the photo tutorial I have linked in the description. It can probably give you a better understanding on how to get it out

    The pro controller does this thing where when you connect it it will start to go right without you doing anything the nunchuck does this too for the Wii and it's very weird how most Nintendo products do this besides the switch

    • @kolafloro
      @kolafloro 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      With the nunchuck it is because it's bad connected

    Can this work with a water spill.

    • @jaymeeyben4071
      @jaymeeyben4071  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      MIKETHEBOSS it depends on what exactly was waterdamaged. this replaces the analog peice completely. So if it was only that that was damaged it should work.

      I would go ahead and replace the left joystick. It should resolve any issue or non responsive commands

  • @KRS2000

    He was right when he said that one part was tricky. I tried doing it myself but I wound up snapping one of the white wires. Then again my gamepad got really abused by a former friend who slammed it into a wall during a drunken rampage, so I should have expected it to be even more tricky. Oh well, back to the old drawing board.

    Is the replacement piece a wii u specific stick? or any stick can be used for replacement?

    • @jaymeeyben4071
      @jaymeeyben4071  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Santarrosa44 I'd say it's safe to assume that it's a wii u specific piece.

    • @rlgarcia25
      @rlgarcia25 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is MOST DEFINITELY a Wii U only part. Nothing else can be used.

  • @sasamichan

    is there a fix with out taking it apart?

    • @jaymeeyben4071
      @jaymeeyben4071  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      sasamichan you can try wraping your lips around the analog stick and blowing to see if you can clear anything that may be doing that. but if that doesnt work you may have to resort to taking it apart. it really isnt hard though, as long as you follor the steps properly there should be no issue!
