- Matthew and Paul talk about what it was like when Paul brought Mr Maple home from Guide Dogs for the Blind. Paul confesses his number one fear was that Mr Maple wouldn’t bond with Matthew…but the exact OPPOSITE turned out to be true! What happened, and how did Matthew and Paul address the issue?

Primarily Mr Maple is Paul’s guide dog and primarily Matthew’s prank sidekick 😂❤️
They should teach Matthew to hold the camera!
Paul's memory of exact dates and what happened is really impressive.Happy two year anniversary of bringing home Mr Maple:)
Paul's memory of dates is WILD -- he remembers everything!!
@@MatthewandPaulOfficial Yes amazing Paul is brilliant and talented not just a pretty face:)

I love how the pink stripes on y’all’s sweaters match exactly. My brain kept wanting the satisfaction of them lining up. 😅 So glad you have Mr Maple, Paul. Dogs are magical beings.
Love that!
Totally! I feel like Matthew’s stripes are upside down 😅
Yes! I want the same thing!
Cant stop watching exactly that!!❤
Thank you. Now I can believe I am normal....
One of my special interests is dog behavior, and I don't think this is strange at all! You have to remember that dogs are incredibly perceptive and in tune with their owner's feelings. Some more than others, and guide dogs are bred and trained to be especially good at it.
Mr. Maple was in a completely new life situation. New puppies and adopted dogs often act differently the first few weeks after coming into a new home, because they haven't found their place yet. Maple had already bonded with Paul, so Paul was Mr. Maple's guiding light in the new home situation. What kind of feelings do you think he picked up from Paul around Matthew? I'm guessing love, comfort, excitement, trust and relaxation. Paul is literally telling his new dog that Matthew is the best person in the world, because every time they're together, Paul is safe and happy.
After Maple settled in and became safe and comfortable in his new life, he did what most dogs do: he became notably closer to the one who spends the most time working with him, but loves them both. ❤
So insightful! Makes total sense now!
Paul also emotes everything with his whole body. Maple would be 100% assured of being liked by Paul from day one. He may have had to seek Matthew's affection at first.
This is beautiful, I agree
I immediately thought "well he just spent 2 weeks with Maple, and Matthew is new, and you just said he likes new ppl".
I know what Paul means, I’m definitely my service dog’s primary person. She shows me so much love, care, support, and concern, but she is just this fun cuddly excited dog around my friends and family particularly my parents. Whenever my parents visit or we visit them, she can’t get enough of grandma and grandpaw. But at the end of the day, I’m always the person she checks in on constantly and won’t leave my side if she’s not sure I’m okay. She’s my heart dog and part of my soul at this point.
Hi guys! If you have Mr. Maple professionally groomed every 3 or 4 months including de- shedding treatment, and brush him every few days with a special shedding brush, I promise his shed fur will decrease by an astounding amount!!! After getting my Goldens into this routine, I have about 80% less dog fur on my floors, clothes, furniture, etc. It will make you so much happier sharing your lives with the amazing Mr. maple who is a treasure!!!
I am in the same boat here! My service dog is my partner, but she is 100% my husband's pet.
Knowing that Matthew was a teacher & is great with children makes so much sense!
“Let’s go find Daddy!” would make me walk faster too, I suppose lol
LMAO
Now we need videos of Mathew pranking Mr. Maple
No! Mr Maple pranking Mathew! ❤
Oh my god, both?
Mr Maple loves Matthew because Paul loves Matthew.
My service dog bonded immediately with my sister’s cat. I felt those same rejection / jealously. We are all ok now but it did take some grounding and attitude adjustment on my part 😂
You both have such beautiful souls. You guys make my day when I watch you. I hope you read these comments to Paul
Dear Paul, I received my calendar today. It's even more adorable than The Pengrooms, which I will treasure. Your talent is beyond amazing. Thank you so very much for sharing it with the world. Yours and Matthew's fan, Tennie
Wow, thank you!
I'm so glad that you brought up that you recognized the way you were feeling must have been similar to parents. I have never owned a dog but the way you were talking about feeling immediately made me think of my kids. Such a relatable experience
My 8-year old daughter and I agree with Paul: since Salt Lake City is south east of Seattle, it’s “down”!❤
The thing I love about Mr. Maple is just how empathetic he is. Like I could easily imagine one you pouring your heart out to him about anything, and he would make eye contact and at the end give you a kiss and rest his head on yours. And if he hadn’t made it as a guide dog, I could easily picture him as a therapy dog for someone with PTSD or anxiety, he’s that sweet and kind.
I love how Paul & Matthew are wearing matching sweaters 😂❤ it's very adorable & sweet.
From a random stranger from winnipeg manitoba. I wish you both an amazing day & week ❤
Haha, when I see what Paul is wearing I always do my best to coordinate!! He doesn't even know I do it lol
Y’all are really the sweetest couple I love how happy you are together ❤❤❤
@@MatthewandPaulOfficial😂
Mr Maple doesn’t love Paul? Not true. I think Mr Maple would share his kibble with Daddy and Papa Pengroom .
Ha ha 😂, sounds about right!
When I lost my Maltese, talk about a guttural cry. Tiffany was everything to me❤
@@fred5150 I’m sorry to hear that
Maybe even his wishbone!
@@deborahbarry8458. I would share because I’m not a mean old Mr.Grinch.
I can totally relate with this. I don't have a dog but I find myself getting jealous sometimes of my husband's relationship with our daughter. They have such a special bond which I love but I also feel left out sometimes. It's a difficult situation but I wouldn't want them to not have a special bond. I just have to make the time we spend together special.
I'm so happy Maple loves you both and I can tell how much you both love him ❤
Honestly, that could be time to look at yourself and how you act towards her.
Parents make mistakes but kids remember. If it's really as bad as you say, don't you dare blame that child! That's a you problem.
It's similar with children.. Kids always love the "fun parent" better.. Paul makes him work, Mathew plays with him.
This whole video is adorable! I've had the flu and your videos are cheering me up❤ Maple is so perfect and what a fun story
So Matthew is a big human Golden Retriever.
Oh, that's why they get along 😂
It may have been totally intentional but the stripes on both of your sweaters coordinate so well!! Awesome video!
I think it is amazing how well you know each other’s personalities and you are so mindful of it!💕
I could sense it was a story from the past. Love to you see both smiling again. ❤
Sooooo handsome (and adorable) - EVERY photo I’ve ever seen of Mr Maple! 😍🦮
You guys are the most lovely couple on the internet. Much love and best wishes for both. ❤
Thank you so much!!
Are we going to talk about Matthew entering his Hot Geography Teacher Era with the clarification of directions? 😂
haha, I remember the strange feeling of taking our first baby home from hospital and always waited for someone to call “what are you doing with this baby, where do you think you’re going?!?” 😅 so strange 😂
Hey guys I was on another social media platform and it popped into my head about you guys. I am so glad to see you guys seem to be doing great. Happy Holidays to both of you.
Awesome! Thank you!
Thank y’all for sharing….The 3 of y’all are meant to be!!❤❤
Low key want a Paul skincare routine his skin is flawless here
Thank you Matthew and Paul. I am in my happy place. I love live vlogs.
awww thank you!!
Thank you. I share your video to my friends because I have the same eye problem. You explain it well. Thank you so much
So nice of you
My dog and I went out for a walk a few days ago and there was a blind man with a guide dog waiting at a bus station. I didn't let my dog get closer because of the harness and told him that the dog is working amd we can't greet him, but my dog then stopped in the distance and wanted to watch the dog enter the bus. He didn't want to move on until the dog was on the bus. He was so interested in this dog. 😅
Awwwwwee how cute. And I love this.
You two are such a beautiful couple. And the 3 of you together are freaking amazing. Watching y'all makes my heart happy.
Love to watch these videos, they cheer me up in my current difficult time 💕
you two are both so joyful and positive, it's really nice to just listen to you talk and watch you interact with each and with mr. maple 😊
thanks for making your lovely content! ❤
Love your honesty and joy.
Your videos have popped up on my feed and I just had to say what a lovely couple. Your videos are so fun and I hope that your relationship is amazing off camera as it is on. Merry Christmas!!
Happy International Guide Dog Day Maple!!
My partner and I were arguing down and up. We’re long distance and for the most part I live south of him. The number of times he says it’s “up” and not “down” always starts a mini disagreement. Well we finally went to Google and it says it is determined by the geographic location BUT when people say “coming down” for a place up north can also be a regional influence. So we both were right.
Hi guys I'm watching you from the UK, your both so confident explaining the ins and out of your disability. I've enjoyed your videos. Thank you so much 😊 Cheryl
You are so awesome to watch. The love you have for each other and that sparkling personality of yours is addictive
I'm so sorry that you became the "spare human" ahahahaha I think Mr Maple guides you, but he adopted Matthew :)
I feel like Maple at the start "favoured" Matthew because he was a new scent or a new presence, he'd gotten used to Paul through his training days, so he was just trying to get used to Matthew. Kinda like a muscle memory deal!
I love your videos! I also have a guide dog my Glenna, from Guiding for the blind but from New York state. They do such an amazing job with the training of the dogs. My fear when I brought her home is that she would like my husband more than me as we had a rough start.Needless to say that it wasn't the case, as she is with me 24/7 and the only time that she has been away from me in 4 1/2 years is when we ran to the bank one time with out her. It is funny as Ken will tell her to do something and she looks at me to see if it is okay to listen to him lol. My Glenna is a small black lab.
I love Matthew's smile before Paul even says "let's go find Daddy" he knows he is loved 😊
Regarding the “over” versus “down” thing - I use a 45 degree angle as my rule. Seattle versus Salt Lake City is tricky though because it’s almost exactly on that 45 degree angle line!
So excited to tune in always ❤
I just found your channel, and I was so worried Maple was gone. Love from Canada ❤🇨🇦
Hi guys, I really love your content and can relate to a lot of Paul's struggles and successes. I am currently looking into whether a guide dog would fit into my life and watching a lot on the topic. I was really curious of the downsides especially and wanted to hear your experiences on it, but I was sad to find out I would have to pay for that.
I totally respect that you charge for extra entertainment like story times, but these more in depth videos on your guide dog journey are also educational to some people who are interested in getting a guide dog themselves. Therefor I wanted to ask you to maybe look out for that a little more in the future, that you don't keep educational content behind a paywall.
In case you read this, thank you for all that you do to raise awareness in a humourous but also realistic way, I admire you both a lot, sending love XX
LOVE this video! How fun to learn about bringing your 1st fur baby home!
The way Matthew looks at Paul 😍😍😍
I hope my sponsor guide dog grace gets some one as lovely as you Paul and mathew when she s Finnished her training I know I’ll have happy tears she’s same colour as me maple and has beautiful ginger ears xx sending love to you all
Love y’all!! You always bring a smile on my bluest days. Thank you!!
Our pleasure!
Yes I do agree with what you are saying with the bonding in a family, the balance and need for the service dog to be primarily the disabled person.
My husband’s dog is happiest when we are together but happy with hubby and not so happy without hubby and alone with me. We are a pack but hubby is his primary.
Haha, isn't that something! But so happy it worked out and you guys are a purfect little family!
I love love love your videos! You two are absolutely adorable.
Thank you so much!!
We want to see puppy pictures of Maple!!!
Can I just say I am loving the sweater coordination - love the colors!!!
Question to both of you: Blind Spots of Sight: What do you think sighted people take for granted in their everyday lives that might be invisible to them?
It was similar with our dogs. I did all the work. Feeding , vet and sweeping up fur. My BF buys treats and toys and guess who they like better lol
The rule is if you go farther south than you do west, it's down. Farther west than south, it's over. At least that's how I've always heard it used.
When Matthew drove home Mr Maple sat on the floor with Paul. Where does Mr Maple sit when Paul is driving 🤔 (this question inspired by the 'garage level elevator short' 🤣🤣🤣)
No hate and this was probably a brain fart but Paul can’t drive… he’s blind
Mr Maple= wears his harness a lot, gets excited when he is told "let's go home and see Daddy"., in a three way relationship, lives in a beautiful apartment and everybody has perfect hair... Mr Maple may have some things to tell the family this holiday.
I just adore how adorable these videos are, thank you for sharing :D
Oh so Matthew gives off Golden Retriever Energy... Mr. Maple got them Empath powers...
I love all your guys videos and your dog is very cute. You guys are amazing couple and parents dog. I just love your stories.
You are so kind
I’ve been staring at Paul’s shirt this entire time.
I have a thing where I count by 4s with different colors on things (literally could be a side walk)
But I couldn’t get past the skinny green line cause I thought it was the same green as the top one… which was annoying cause I couldn’t count all the colors without having to restart but kept getting blocked. Finally I stopped the video and zoomed in, it’s a different green I can finally count all the colors
You 2 are so heartwarming!
matthew's eyebrows are always on fleek :)
I love your outfits, they complement each other so well
I always love your videos and your nerdy moments. This is coming from one nerd to other nerds. And Mr Maple is so cute❤❤❤❤❤❤ Also, animals can tell if someone's a good person or not I've seen this with many animals, including humans of course.
And they stick with people. They can trust just like humans do❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
You are so kind
Me and my partner are puppy raisers. Our dog seems to love my partner a lot more because he is more playful but we did this before and when we gave our first dog she was clinging to me
LovelyOnes!!!! Always!!!! With Lovely Cute Mr Maple!!!! Always!!!!
Love you guys , all 3 of you!!!
I was about to say post a video since he was filming and then you said you didn't even tell me I was like damn it I want to see that lol
I was thinking the drawbacks to having.a dog is drooling, farting, shedding. My dog is big and black and has a thick coat. One time as I was sweeping up the drifts of dog hair I was on the phone with my daughter and commented, "I don't have dust-bunnies, I have dust buffalo that are constantly stampeding."
As a non native English speaker I was so confused about the "over in" discussion, it didn't register with me you were discussing grammar for a good while. I have been learning English for a good 13-14 years and my Master's is taught in English but there are just nuances I miss sometimes haha.
Big hugs and kisses to you all especially Mr maple 🍁 love from uk 🇬🇧 ❤❤❤❤😘😘😘 Mr maple loves you both you can see that 😘
Love the videos so much you guys are so adorable ❤ keep it up and love mr maple
Thank you! Will do!
That's how I feel with my cat loving my brother more over me 😆😭
I met my cousin's dog since he was a puppy, aka the first days he was brought to her home. I love dogs so of course I went to meet him, then often visit her house to see and play with him, long story short I was dubbed best friend of that dog by no other than my cousin. Dogs are amazing, they develop a lot of kinds of relationships.
I love how your shirts are colour coordinated 🥰
For west coast residents, "over there" might be on the other (east) side of the continental divide of the Rocky Mountains.
Watching these two trying to figure out the concept of diagonal is hilarious 😂 😂
I live in Salt Lake City and I have relatives in Portland and Seattle. We never said that we were going over to Seattle. We always said we were going up to Seattle.
I think you're right that parents can sometimes feel rejected by their children, at least I know it happened to me. I think I actually resented my daughter's dad for a short time right after she was born. Even to this day, I still sometimes feel like she still idolizes her dad (& she's now 32 with 3 boys of her own) where as I'm actually below her. But with my son, my son & I have an amazing bond between us. He's almost 6 years younger than his sister. He knows he's very spoiled & that I will always try to give him whatever he needs or even wants. Don't get me wrong, we have had our share of disagreements/fights, but he knows I will always be here if/when he needs me. I love both my kids unconditionally & will try my best to help them in whatever way I can. I also have an amazingly strong bond with my middle grandson. I love all 3 of them unconditionally also, but the middle one & I just formed this beautiful bond that I'm so grateful for. I'm a 51 yr old grandma who's a gamer & knows almost every single Pokemon there is. 🤭 My grandson even introduced me to someone saying "this is grandma Wendy, the gaming nerd" 🤭🤣🤣 all 3 just melt my heart. 😔 Sorry, little longer of a comment than I actually thought it would be. 😔🤭😉
Regarding how to describe relative geographic locations, if a destination is further away along the east/west axis, than it is along the north/south axis then it's "over" there. Likewise, if it's further away along the north/south axis than it is along the east/west axis, then it would be "up/down" there. Looking at Google Maps, I can see that from the centre of Seattle to the centre of Salt Lake City is very slightly further away along the east/west axis than it is along the north/south axis (SLC is about 778 km east of Seattle and only about 767 km below it). So, very strictly speaking, it would be "over" there. But with such a tiny variance in the distance along each axis, I'd say that either "over" or "down" would be appropriate.
Love your videos!! Love the sweaters!!😍😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️
SLC is definitely down from Seattle, as is Denver. Anything south of Wyoming is down, until you get to Illinois, in which it becomes "back East" if it's north of Kentucky. Except West Virginia... West Virginia I'd say "out in West Virginia." The rest is "down" e.g. "down in North Carolina."

There is one exception. The state of Maine. When going to Maine from Boston you say you are going Down East, even though you are going north. The reason goes back to the days of shipping and the currents in the Gulf of Maine. When going from Boston you are going down (with the)current. It is the same going the other way. From Maine you say you are going up to Boston.
Over can be used to refer to anything away from you and in any direction. " Go over to the couch and sit down," or " the coffee pot is over in the kitchen."
Animals can play with your mind like no other creatures! lol
The matching shirts are too cute!
I think of SLC as down or South of Seattle more than over or East of Seattle too even though it's both.😊
my dog got blind and his behavior changed. he is slower and sometimes gives the impresion that he still sees a little bit
I'm listening to Paul and Matthew talking but I can't help but hear the constant 'crunch' 'crunch' 'crunch' from Mr Maple chewing on his toy!
3:27 “when he’s out of his harness, a stranger gets him excited’ same maple. Same.
Love Paul's reaction to you saying get rid of him lmao
8:28 correction, Paul you should be worried getting maple back from Matthew lol
