    Tanker guy here. For the etiquette, receivers waiting for gas wait in left echelon/observation. Receivers that have completed refueling wait in right echelon. Usually we say "cleared left/right wing" as appropriate. Also, it's "chicks in tow."

      3 years late but ... Does the Russian Air / Naval forces follow the identical etiquette? I noticed the IL-76 making a right turn, which never happens for NATO tankers in DCS.

    • @ImperatorTheodosius

      @@AK-pr6bq Couldn't tell you because I don't know their stuff. The fact of the matter is that we turn whichever way we need to. We joke about only turning left because that's the standard orbit for the rendezvous. US/NATO procedures are found in the ATP 3.3.4.2, which is unclassified and you can quickly dowload with a search engine.

    One additional note: When retracting the fueling boom it is normal for it to take a few minutes as it empties out the fuel lines inside the boom. Just hit the key once and wait.

    WOW This is slightly harder than performing complicated eye surgery on yourself while riding a unicycle . I found auto thrust a great help , also cheating by using "L alt / Z" to slow things down as I have the reaction time of a sloth . And then "l ctl / Z " to speed back up again .✈✈ Great work by the Reapers . without these tutorials DCS would be unfathomable

    This was very helpful. Speed is my biggest problem at the moment, I own a good throttle, finally, but Su-33 is very agile when it comes to speed (at least for refueling purposes :-)). Autothrust is incredibly useful, it makes the whole experience nearly arkadish. 🙂 Also, there is a ACS refueling mode, which is very handy, especially for level refueling. I have to figure it out for orbits yet.

    Su33 is much easier to learn, but it is not a high fidelity model. The F-16 is easy for me to land, but that is because I crashed short of the runway or ran off the end of the runway many many times. I finally learned to regulate my throttle and descent rate. Ground handling can be tricky if you get in a hurry. Just keep your speed low. I agree that the F/A-18 is easier in every respect.

    How do you trim your plane so precisely? I find that my plane when is either one trim to high or one trim to low and will make it so i have to manually control to keep myself from drifting up or down. This makes it impossible to refuel as it creates a bob effect.

    • @shavofairbanks8232

    • @shavofairbanks8232
      @shavofairbanks8232 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are talking about trimming then i will use the stick deflection trim option to get it perfect. You can also do Lctrl+r (I think) to use auto leveling meant for refueling. the next bit of advice i dont think he mentioned was using only rudder to line up. if you use rudder it will prevent you from bouncing up and down trying to keep it steady.

      They didn't mention ACS refuel mode, it gives you more precise controls when refueling, it is like autopilot mode but it is not called like that. In controls menu you can find ACS cobra mode and ACS refuel mode, very cool feature along with autothrottle.

    I don't understand why that tanker speed indicator is not present on American planes. Yes, I know they fly and train at the very least 10x more than Russian pilots, but the plane should always take off as much workload from the pilots' shoulders as possible. In my opinion it's a little but important thing.
    Despite having much more mechanical switches and dials (even some gauges from the freaking '60s...), from time to time I find the Soviet/Russian planes more pilot-friendly than the Americans. Though American planes (especially the Raptor and the Lightning II) are still mostly superior, so I guess it's not an issue at all. I just find it weird, is all.

    • @keepwalking6041
      @keepwalking6041 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      to me its a no brainer, having such tech is just makes sense... why put strain on pilots unnecessarily.. but propaganda tells us russian tech is outdated, while reality is autoloaders for tanks, cheaper tanks, helicopter with ejection seats, no such thing in western equipment.. it could be propaganda is just powerful in west and its not as bad as they say, maybe even in parts russian tech is superior clearly.

    • @Petidani0330
      @Petidani0330 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@keepwalking6041 Indeed. I'd die to see what a joint American-Russian warmachine could do. With the ingenuity of the Russians and the inexhaustable budget of the Americans, I believe it would be an absolute monster that would put the likes of the Raptor to shame.
      I know there's not even a slight chance of it ever happening, as neither parties wish to get closer to each other, nor is it their economic and political interest to do so. Treaties signed in the 90s are like the unification talks between the two Koreas - looks nice on the outside, but makes no progress whatsoever on the issue.

      You just skipped to the auto refuel part, didn't you? Bro, if a 13 minute tutorial is too long for you, I can only imagine your horror when you try to learn high fidelity modules like the F-16 or F-18.
      Btw, he explained the auto refuel right before the corresponding section (it's a Grim Reapers thing to have the chapters completely messed up and out of sync with the video...), and it's not entirely automatic. It won't steer the plane for you, there's only autothrust. You connect with the boom, you settle down, then press autothrottle on (default "J" key), then you can adjust it with LCtrl+, and LCtrl+. (default). Like I said, you still need to steer the plane, but at least you can get your hands off your throttle lever (or buttons if you have it bound that way - mine does).
