    I have Cupid’s Jewel! I added it to my recent Lyndon Lyon order as an afterthought. It’s my favorite now. The picture on the Lyndon Lyon website didn’t do it justice. The color is great and it blooms like crazy. It’s like having a tiny peony bush at home.

      Thanks! The original recipe, which I had simplified quite a bit since, is in this video: th-cam.com/video/pLLcZOfIo-E/w-d-xo.htmlsi=6MRcfAjWd0jXoq6-. Now I just use 1:1 ProMix and perlite, plus systemic insecticide granules.

    I have a question, I read that for the good of the violet, they need to rest after blossoming or even during blossoming so the leaves have the chance to multiply get beautiful , longer stems, bigger leaves etc. Is it true? I also just watched a video where the owner starts poking all the blossoms so te violet can rest a give bigger leaves since he says the leaves of this particular violet (a wasp ) are a bit smaller. Is there any point where you do this? Thank you so much!

    • @grayturtleviolets
      @grayturtleviolets  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s a good idea to let them rest between the blooming cycles, especially those prolific bloomers! Once they’ve recovered and grown new leaves in the crown center, they can bloom again. Thank you for asking!

    • @charocflores
      @charocflores 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @grayturtleviolets I never new you get rid of the blooms to let them rest. I have never done this my violets finish blooming and rest for only 2 or 3 weeks and start again. Its that bad? Sometimes not even 2 weeks

    • @grayturtleviolets
      @grayturtleviolets  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@charocflores depends on the variety - some of mine bloom more frequently than others, and others need longer rest periods between blooming cycles. As long as the plant looks healthy, that works!

    I always wanted to ask : Do violets have to be in complete darkness for at least 8 hrs. Meaning the artificial lights are off. But what about if some violets are close to a window. Does it matter if the ceiling lights are on? While people are still in the room? Does it affects somehow the violets? Or they need complete darkness at least the 8 hrs.

    • @grayturtleviolets
      @grayturtleviolets  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, they need 14-16 hours of light and 8-10 hours of darkness daily to flower. Here is a good read: extension.psu.edu/why-isnt-my-african-violet-flowering#:~:text=They%20also%20need%20eight%20hours,than%2016%20hours%20a%20day.

      @@grayturtleviolets I used to have my violets for up to 15 hrs. with the artificial light on. Many got stunted and with a tight crown, leaves became rubber like. Now I have them with maximum 10 hrs. with light. wherever room they are , I turned the ceiling lights off also. I try to give them complete darkness and since then , all my violets are covered with blooms non stop! no more tightness. It helped to watch your videos on how close lights should be and different types of violets react different as well.

      Usually it’s recommended to follow 1:3 ratio, using pot 3 time less the diameter of the crown, but I sometimes pot them up in the size half of the crown. Happy growing!
