Plus Most people think otherwise, But they Really are Reliable as hell. Who gives a fuck about not having 400+ hp. If I can get close to 30 mpg and not run to the Station 3-4 times a week, I'm happy.
The 6.5 sounds like a turbo big block with the diesel clatter added, Cummins mostly makes inline 6 engines so they sound like straight 6's. And Detroit diesels were 2 stroke and sounded like they were revving higher than they were and also sounded like they had twice the number of cylinders
I only ever drove one of these, it was my fire department one when I was still a firefighter. You would let off the throttle, and suddenly it would open right up for about 5 seconds. Not what you want when approaching a red light. I remember the chief and a lieutenant taking it out after I told them about it, and the thing was just pouring black smoke when I passed them. But man, would I love to buy it if the department ever sold it. It was one clean truck
Que hermoso que se escucha el Detroit , me da ganas de conducirla. Un lastima que x Argentina no ayan motor Detroit. Excelente el vídeo ,un abrazo grande
@@motocolo125 probably a GM5. That's what my early 96 model has. The GM8 came in late 96 or in 97, cant remember for sure. I think they skipped gm6 and gm7 because ive never seen or heard of them.
@@torque395 idk myself about a gm6, but there is a gm7 turbo, its the centermount turbo used on vans and humvees. They couldn't clear the firewall with the pickups, so they made the rest of them to mount on the side. I believe that aside from the mounting position, that it is identical to a gm8.
@@markburns5952they did until like the 90’s or somethin- I watched a video on it and I forgot which year exactly but I think like late 90’s early 00’s was when they switched to the Duramax
my dad has a 1997 suburban k1500 with the 6.5 . beautiful truck, had only 130,000 miles and was 1 owner when we bought it. a little crusty unfortunately because it was a Wisconsin truck, but nothing too bad i dont think
Must know what exhaust brand this is lol there’s only two that sound like this and and it’s so good no one seems to know why it sounds like a big truck, also does it have the bigger crossover pipe too?
Sounds awesome man! Can't wait to get my hands on a k3500 dually crew cab preferred I have a 2005 Silverado 1500 ext cab 4x4 with 140k if anyone wants to trade. Ha
I don't think I'd ever let my k3500 crew cab go its a 5 speed too it was a bitch to find I bought it from a Salvage auction and ever since prices on 6.5's have just kept climbing
Yes they were turboed starting in 93 when the 6.5 was rolled out. I believe the first iteration was either GM-3 or GM-4. This truck being a 96' will have a GM-5 stock. My 98' has a GM-8
Motocolo125 ok, cold certainly adds to the issues, but good matched batteries, clean corrosion free cables, a top quality starter, and synthetic motor oil drastically improve the cranking speed in the cold.
If you are still using the stock battery cables, cut the boots off the ends, and verify no corrosion has compromised he crimp joints... but even PERFECT stock cables severely limit amp flow needed for a rapid cold start. 2/0 copper cables make an amazing difference!
SuperVstech nah shes not at all struggling its just at almost 10k altitude things work differently everything runs harder. Plus i dont drive it like i stole it i drive it like i own it. Gas vehicles are 40% less hp up here
6.2s and 6.5s just have their own sound. Cummins is good. 2 stroke Detroit's sound better but these engines sound like nothing else
They sound like a gasser almost
Plus Most people think otherwise, But they Really are Reliable as hell. Who gives a fuck about not having 400+ hp. If I can get close to 30 mpg and not run to the Station 3-4 times a week, I'm happy.
Get a straight piped scania v8 up ya son

That's for sure. You can always tell a 6.2/6.5 when you hear it. Its sweet music to my ears, and nothing else sounds anything like it.
Very good sound. One of the best I’ve heard
I read this in trumps voice.

Sounds good and shifting seems to be seamless
Love waking the neighbors at 6:00 AM with my 3500 service truck, 4 inch straight pipe, neighbors love me...
Hey, another half ton Z71 6.5, I knew mine wasn’t the only one
I got one
I got one up in alberta canada
I got one
I’ve got one in Alberta too!
Mine is a 1500 2wd 5 lug 6.5
love american diesel Truks 😍
I love Bolsonaro!
The truck sounds happy. Nice ride
I'm in love sound.
Sounds like a small V8 Mack engine ... i had a 94 2500HD i wish id never sold it uhh
I love that damn truck
She sounds really good
This thing sounds Soo good.
I need to put an engine in my 97Z71... sooo many projects though.

I think this is the best sounding 6.5 I've ever heard. Is this a stock 6.5 with a GM5 oe or GM8 turbo?
torque395 not sure it was all stock with the exception of a 4inch exhaust system

Is this stock exhaust? I'm debating on having my cat deleted on my 98 chevy 2500..
6.5 all day
I have the same exact truck except mine is the 5.7 gasser that’s crazy they put diesels in the light duty pickups
They didn't it's a swap most likely

Is it like obnoxiously loud? Or is it just me because I’m looking at a truck and it has a straight pipe
Is this with a 3" downpipe? What is the turbo?
I'm in love😍
Is this just a 4 inch? Nothing on the engine?
In the 90s was there a 1500 that came with the 6.5? There’s a vid on the Tube and it’s a 1500 6.5 diesel he said it was original pretty cool i guess
Yes that’s exactly what this is lol
Motocolo125 oh shoot my bad that’s awesome I’ve been looking for a single cab W/T but I can one that’s not as krusty as the school microwave
Yep, I have a 1994 z71 with the good ol 6.5 250,000 miles

Its just mbrp 4” turbo back system no cross over done
This was also high altitude so abit more whistle from the turbo
Sounds like lb7
What mpg this trucks have?
Probably 15-16 mpg most times. 12-14 in the mountains
Gooooooooooooooood
what kind of turbo
Stock at almost 10,000ft altitude
Is it loud in the cab?
Not too bad at all.. these truck let alot of road noise in the cab so the exhaust isnt as noticeable

Is the truck rust free
was
Does the 6.5 have a turbo on it
I'm not familiar with this engine at all

@@detroitdiesel-vu3ig alright thanks for the information its nice to get knowledge from someone on new diesels
You need new battery cables.
That starter turns WAAAAY too slow.
Nah just part of living at 9100ft every night is cold so the oil is thick when it first turns.. its 10x faster the second start of the day

SuperVstech i have an lbz duramax now its lightyears ahead of the 6.5
Motocolo125 for sure, but he 6.5 will cost far less in repairs. But if you need the hp, dmx is certainly a better option.
I have a 6.2 with a mufflers, is it okay for a diesel to run straight pipes?
Yes. Its actually very common for diesels to run straight pipe
Only if it's turbocharged non turbo diesels like your 6.2 probably won't like it
Any vehicle with a turbo needs to be straight piped
Wherever this is, I want to ride my motorcycle thru it
Florida
Idle sounds like a duramax
Yeah but slightly deeper exhaust note for sure
That’s one thing that I noticed after working on them. They sound just like an early 6.6 duramax at idle especially in person.
That’s a lot a smoke lol
Truck sounds like it is struggling... all mine rev much faster...
SuperVstech nah shes not at all struggling its just at almost 10k altitude things work differently everything runs harder. Plus i dont drive it like i stole it i drive it like i own it. Gas vehicles are 40% less hp up here
Motocolo125 yup, altitude limits revs for certain! NA engines beg for air up there!
