    A Hologram would have been so much better! We've been shown maps being projected time and again, in all three trilogies, from multiple sources, and we even know that map screens can incorporate other info to show real-time images (of fighters moving, for example). Had Palpatine made a holo-projector that shows the current position of the Wayfinder by "pinging" it, especially through some Sith magic explanation so no-one without Sith knowledge can use it if you absolutely must have that plot point, he could've stored it deep within the outer shell of the Death Star, which solves about every single problem with its whereabouts and how to find it.
    Not to mention someone was literally stabbed with that knife. Had that person worn any armor, which is not unlikely in Star Wars, the knife could've been damaged, not to mention how contrived it was how it was found in the first place, just to not even provide any indication from where to approach the point of interest- which could've been an interesting delay even, but they just happen to immediately find it, which the holo projector would at least explain

      A hologram that kept updating would have worked well, given that the HoloNet was under Imperial control for 20 years. They had partially dismantled the hyperspace messaging system, and it's easy to imagine a top secret Dark HoloNet had been constructed for Sith use instead of Imperial. -DZ

    That clip of JJ talking about the knife hurts me because he has storytelling and world building completely backwards. When you already have an established world, the question is "how would someone in this world make a map?" But JJ instead says "I like the idea of a knife, how can we fit that in?"

      Judging by how successfully he essentially Assassinated the franchise, I think it is ....odd.... to think it wasn't intentional at this point. The knife also become silly for two reasons
    1. It is ancient.... How would anyone make a knife in the past and have it fit perfectly with a space stationwreck in the future?
    2. If sithcultists made the knife, why would the leave a important vault and shrine from their master and god unopened?
    Also, in a world of technology and holographic maps, why take the painful time to carve a horisionpattern in the side of a knife instead of just plotting a datamap in another wayfinder and say "Hey idiot! It's here!"

    One thing I never see mentioned about these scenes is that they used the wrong model of Death Star. Another huge issue with the knife is that, even if the Death Star isn't eroded it just points to somewhere inside the Death Star from super far away. Once you're approaching the Death Star how would you ever actually find where it was pointing. All it did was tell them which side of the Death Sat to start searching from. This means that if you could find the Death Star you pretty much could find the throne room, because the knife did not actually help with that.

      I feel like the knife matching with the exterior of the DS is bad because it’s too specific. I feel like it’s bad that this “ancient artifact” is barely 30 years old. But the biggest issue I have with it the dagger is to simply point out where the wayfinder is, which is the emperor’s throne room, aka the first place you would look to find sith relics. At that point simply having Oochi carry the wayfinder instead of the leads to less problems with the plot

    Subscribed. Why the Death Star wreckage is not on the Forest Moon of Endor or "Sanctuary moon", is a baffling decision. It clearly has lakes and seas interspersing the plains and deep mountainous forests covering its surface. As you have said, an underwater sequence would have been much more compelling, which incidentally are some of the strongest scenes from TPM and also could have served as a reference, nod, etc. It is yet another case of cloning a setting for no other reason than they can, when an identical and more interesting location already exists in canon (Though Jakku has kinda grown on me, despite being yet another desert planet). The physics of Disney Star Wars is as inexcusable as the lazy writing. The Homeworld OST reminds me of the 'Warlords' mods, wonder if you've seen them?

    • @thebreadcircus
      @thebreadcircus  ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Another great water scene is the Dagobah swamp, which I think inspired TPM's water monsters. There's no telling what lurks under the surface.
      The only issue with Jakku is how blatantly the movie wishes it was Tatooine. As a planet with a bunch of derelict Imperial vehicles, that's a neat concept. Reminds me of the Hardware: Shipbreakers videos we got, before that game was retooled into Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak. I didn't do too much modding, I loved the one for playable Turanic Raiders, and I got started designing a Kadeshi fleet in Wings3D. -DZ

    3:37 small correction, that is actually the New lore - the Disney lore

    • @thebreadcircus
      @thebreadcircus  ปีที่แล้ว +28

      Love that you're paying attention enough to catch this. I don't know the full story of the sublight "harmful emissions", so if anyone does then I'm all ears. It's not a story Wookieepedia would tell you.
      I don't know how old this lore is, all I'm certain of is that it's from before the dark times, before Disney. A pre-prequel Essential Guide from 1996 has no mention of sublight engines being prohibited anywhere. The only place I remember seeing the illegality was the cross-sections books, in the first pages of the OT book. But as I recall, that one was only printed in the prequel era, and I don't yet own a copy to check.
      You're right that "sublight drive" seems to be the more correct term. We hear the term "sublight engines" from Han's mouth, cut in when exiting hyperspace at Alderaan. I don't think Disney can lay any claim to the phrase. The distinction between "engine" and "drive" is subtle, so here's how I'd draw the line. A spaceship has three kinds of drive systems, one of which is the umbrella term "sublight drive". The drive system includes all the feedback and monitoring equipment, wiring, and cockpit controls involved with sublights. Then, the specific machinery with the ion thrusters, that'd be your "sublight engines". -DZ

How would ships land and takeoff without getting tickets all the time? Air and ground repulsorlifts as standard tech? Seems like a stretch for low-end or low-weight ships. The list just goes and goes.

    • @Necroxion
      @Necroxion ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@thed3m0n0id9 that kind of stuff is actually well-enforced in EU lore, where the Center-Mid Rim worlds are just loaded with cops, while the Outer Rim (where Tattooine is) is a lawless wasteland
      And even then, a lot of lawless wastelands rely on bounty hunters as law enforcement. The Corporate Sector and Hutt Space have their own private law enforcement which also included Bounty Hunters
      It's a fun little contrast we get in the films between Coruscant's ultra-advanced police database with the analysis droids, and Tattooine having nothing but Bounty Hunters, but this carries over to the EU well and is mentioned in The Bounty Hunter Code
      (Oh, and Rian Johnson cites The Jedi Path as a justification for Force Skype Calls, but The Jedi Path is in the exact same series as Bounty Hunter Code + mentions a lot of EU material such as reborn Sheev. The canonity of this book to Disney lore is extremely suspect)
      EDIT: and because you got me mentioning Coruscant, Coruscant is actually a planet-wide Warhammer 40K Hive City covered in skyscrapers on top of skyscrapers on top of derelict buildings that can crumble any moment, the law enforcement is absolutely brutal and advanced on the higher parts but almost nonexistent at the lower levels, with the actual ground of the planet being a lightless hellscape full of mutants and monsters
      George Lucas loved this idea so much that his cancelled show before Disney came in was about Coruscant's lower levels

      What I'm getting at is how it impossible it would be to effectively police *any* sectors of space, given the sheer stupid size of it and how easy it is to ditch sensor traces and run silent, from the "realism" standpoint anyway.
      For an idea, play some Elite Dangerous and try to track ships in realspace more than 20km away; your sensors get real flaky at long ranges. Now imagine trying to police just the space in and around a ring system around a common gas giant; literally impossible to cover all that at once. Security forces have to respond to calls or patrol set areas.
      Now imagine a solar system. Now a region of space. Now the whole galaxy.
      UNPOSSIBLE haha
      The forces to have these laws and to tracks folks are in-place - I wasn't trying to deny their existence at all- but like I said, there's a TON of practical problems with it.

      @@goldzior1128 Well, here's the difference between myself and the creators... I didn't make the worthless movie and I was only half paying attention to it, since I was a mixture of bored and pissed off about the lack of care they gave to my beloved franchise. The entire movie was leaked before it even came out, and I didn't believe the leaks because I didn't believe that it could possibly be as ridiculously bad as what the leaks stated. As I was watching it, I just kept wondering what was taking the movie so long to end and I couldn't wait for it to just be over. I've only seen the movie once, in the theater because I got to see it for free, and that's more than enough. So, the Falcon crashing didn't even stick in my memory despite me picking tons of other things about the movie that I didn't agree with and have been complaining about since it was released. There's so much wrong with it that this one detail slipped through the cracks.

    When filming Star Trek 2009 with Chris Pine as Kirk, Pine had issues with some of the things the script had him saying, so he went to JJ to ask for clarification on it. JJ took him aside, and said "It doesn't matter, you just run on, you just run on and say it as fast and as earnestly as possible, *THE AUDIENCE WON'T CARE,* all they'll think is 'something's happening! something's happening!'"
    Except the audience *does* care. Its why we're watching movie 7, 8, and 9 in a series. We wanted to see another story in Star Wars, featuring the heroes that we grew up loving, with...logical storytelling. Why didnt Palpatine just clone himself and send his clone to Endor because he foresaw his fate in Return of the Jedi? This would have been a very plausible way to bring him back - seeing that it was he that created all the clones in the first place - why not make a couple for himself - hell, Hitler used doubles in real life because people were trying to kill him - the technology was already there in the SW universe and they thought of ‘somehow’ he returned. • @nicholashodges201
      @nicholashodges201 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      At most only half of the wreckage would've landed on the sanctuary moon. The side pointing away would've gone *that* way. It still would be an extinction level event. But the explosion was from the center of DS2 and radiated in all directions.
      The biggest issue though is that it's somewhat implied at the end of RotJ that either the debris wasn't in any big chunks, or they were blown away from the moon.
      If a piece the size of what we see in RoS were to hit Ewok's moon there wouldn't have been the feast in the end. They would all be to busy meeting their God for real and it would've happened in less than an hour.
      Since we see no large debris, I'm going to say the original intent would've been the near atomisation of DS2, much like the original.

    They shown that you can go out on ships through shielding for star-wars. It's just like how the moon pools work and how they can have open hangerbay doors.

    The trench run does not take place in the equatorial trench, but in a network of trenches around the pole of the death star, as you can see in the 3D animation of the plans during dodonna's briefing. These trenches likely have the same purpose as the vent, to vent excess reactor energy during the firing of the superlaser.

    Sadly, the falcon had repulsorlifts. The would not have happened. Also, the repulsors can be switched off on some ships (falcon) to test shield systems. Not an approved method. But a method.

    Ways to make the knife amazing.
    Make it a mix of tech and force magic. Inscription tells of planet location, but knife itself works like the Mandalorian beacons, beeps or glows in proximity, or shows compus pointer. It homes in on an artefact in the vault.
    If you want the jagged edge, make it a physical key to open the vault.
    If you want it to be even more messed up make it so you also need blood on the knife as part of a sith ritual. You can push it further to require force blood, or an actual death caused by the knife.
    This could push Ray to stab Kylo with it. Give her the excuse of "I needed to" which then could be twisted to tell her that she wanted to kill and took joy and only that sort of darkness can open the door blah blah blah.
    Tldr Knife with homing beacon, actual use as a physical key and a requirement of blood or murder as a Darkside requirement to use it.

    3:42 The on-screen text here states that even if using sub-light engines in the atmosphere were illegal, they would still be used by those who might want to make a quick getaway. Then we hear the narrator say that this idea that using sub-light engines in the atmosphere illegal is false because we see it done.* What?
    *In a situation requiring a quick getaway, escaping from Stormtroopers in the Mos Eisley docking bay.

      Docking bay 64 is the first example we see of using sublight engines in the atmosphere. Later in the same movie, X- and Y-Wings do the same thing. The same goes for every other ship's engines. Can you provide a couple of examples from the OT to support the wiki's position? -DZ

      @@thebreadcircus they fire the sublights in atmosphere in almost every film. Personally this video is the first time in 40 years of geeking out to SW I've every heard of sunlight engines being prohibited in atmosphere.
      Makes me think it was written by some yahoo who never actually saw the films, but was paid to do one of the tech books.

      I don’t understand you guys.
      Your evidence that is not prohibited are that they do it anyways??
      Prohibited is a different thing than impossible. Are we watching the same movies here? This is not exactly a trilogy about following precise ordinances exactly!
      And your evidence of those that do it are:
      (1) a smuggler, and
      (2) the Rebels!
      Not exactly law-abiding citizens. 🤣
      Let’s see if the Empire would have burned sunlight engines in atmosphere: even at the expense of military supremacy they choose to keep their Star Wars ESG scores up-
      The Empire could have thrashed Hoth and Endor by bringing fighter or capital ship support into the atmosphere, and they don’t!
      😝
      Even if you can prove the Empire did burn sublight engines in atmosphere, I highly doubt the Empire actually respects local ordinances … I mean if it’s illegal to burn sunlight engines in atmosphere on some planets because it’s bad for the planet’s ecosystem, it probably is worse to blow up the entire planet-which the Empire does anyways! 😋

    It's not that big of a stretch to assume that in the context of space faring vessels, the repulsor lifts could be colloquially referred to as part of the "landing *gear* ". Especially since in such craft they aren't really used for much else at all other than... *landing* ! And Chewi could've been referring to a problem with the repulsor engine component of the landing system; "the landing 'gear' is busted."
    "...how busted?"
    Chewi's next (untranslated) gargles and grunts could've been Wookeespeak for "Specifically, the repulsor lifts aren't working. This is going to be a really rough landing, Poe!"
