For many RV campers, winter marks the end of their adventures. But for me and my dogs, the freezing temperatures only mean that we must prepare for what is to come. We will be heading south very soon, but until then I need to stock up on supplies and figure out the most energy efficient ways to keep me and my dogs warm. Please let me know if you have any expertise or advice installing lithium batteries in a travel trailer. I have a lot to learn before I attempt this big project. But I am going to need all the power I can get. Thank you all so much for hitting the like button, commenting below and subscribing to our channel. The dogs and I always hope that we might inspire some of you to get out! 12 years full-time living in van. Generators, solar panels…etc. I’ve done it all. I purchased an arctic sleeping bag (rated for sub freezing temperatures) I spent three days in my sleeping bag, Using a small burner to heat water and soup. (small, white fuel burner would be best) Mountaineering would be a good resource for surviving extreme cold environments. Surviving with less power is a better approach for me.
I’m extremely happy to see you and the fur kids are back together and back in your trailer. You look great in your cold weather gear! Love seeing you!!
I actually requested that you show us a video of you backing into a camp. I'm not sure if that's why you did that particular video but thanks all the same. It helped me out bro.
Spiders will use a technique called ballooning to migrate. They will climb onto something high and spin a strand of web into the air until the wind carries them up and away. Not sure that is what happed here. Nature is amazing. You are lucky to be out exploring and learning about nature.
At first, I thought it was the feather from Forest Gump! You should be able to get a great deal on batteries and the lithium charger at the Big Tent. Stay warm and safe! Start heading to Quartzsite! 47 degrees at night down there.
Well that video ended abruptly! haha :-) Good stuff.. Hope you find a nice comfy nook down south somewhere is a wooded area with a stream nearby. Thanks for sharing…
Lithium battery setup can be whatever you want to spend . I made our setup 1236ah of SOK batteries 1200 watts of solar. Not fancy but can run 15k ac all night and still have 70% batteries in the morning. We have a 5th wheel and just run bedroom ac with doors shut, so only cooling 8x8 room . The batteries won't hurt your truck charging system the wire is so small . I have all renogy stuff cheap and works great. 2000watt inverter that i just plug into the camper just like shore power and everything works , just make sure converter is off in breaker box . Soft starts on ac units. Had set 3 years now no issues . Bad thing we aren't full-time just weekenders and much vacation time .
Make sure you purchase batteries with built in heaters as they won’t charge bells 32 We installed a wood stove in our 5th wheel and not only do we save on propane but the blower draws 11 amps so it saves batteries as well Skirting helps keep the heat in and the cold out You need a generator and a 100 amp lithium charger this charges them very quickly
I *think* I saw on one of Bob's videos that there's usually someone at the RTR that can help with solar, lithium, etc... Or maybe it was through the homes on wheels alliance? Funny how big that white thing looked when it was falling and then it was so tiny when you got to it. LOL Glad you mentioned the dogs' pills...you reminded me that today is Gus's Heartguard med day. :P
That’s a good suggestion about rtr. I don’t want to screw up a lithium battery install. Seriously, that white fuzzy stuff, which now I think maybe from a plant, I really did think it was a UFO when I first saw the way it was floating and it looked huge from the distance. But then again, I’m out here all alone so I might just be going a little wacko. 🌲🌵
@@GotOut ROFL! Or you just have an active imagination....which solitude has allowed to express itself when not surrounded by stressful distractions. ;)
Of course you would! I bet Roxy would love it too. But for me, the less things I have to deal with the easier my life seems to be. Charging it, hooking it up, maybe it breaks, or I forget to turn it off. I realize, though that the padding insulates it very well and I think that’s one of the biggest advantages of the cheap camping chairs.
I am the only human out here for a mile or so. Honestly. Just me and the dogs. Who is running the camera? Well, I did find a Bigfoot out here and he was very friendly. Once I handed him the camera… more to come soon… 🌲🌵🐕🦺🐕
You can add your lithium batteries you probably need to change you charge controller if you cant change the settings your truck will charge your batteries up but not full charge I put a dc to dc controller in my rv
If it's sticky, it's a spider web. If it's not, it's the airborne seeds of a native grass. Autumn is the season here of all the spiders coming of age and into breeding season, and forming egg sacs. Usually we see the black and yellow garden spiders coming out to build their webs and make their egg sacks. Once the egg sacks are in place, the hummingbirds come around and pick off the old females that will die that winter anyway. That is the extra protein the hummingbirds will need to get back to South America. Circle of life, dude. Will be watching you carefully...
You really need a diesel heater. they run on 1/3 amp versus 8 and on low only use 3/4 0f a gallon for 24 hours, on low. My 8x16 Cargo trailer has 2K and I can't even run it unless its under 40 out. I wish I was down south, I'm stuck here in Western Wa for a while. Get a way bigger battery than you think you need. I have a n EG4LL 24v 200 AH and I want another one. Go with 24v btw and step down to 12.
Just trying to understand the energy consumption thing. The hubs and I don't mind the cold at night, it's the AC during the day that will be the breaking point for the hubs.
I swapped my batteries to lithium and had to change the charge controller, supper easy. There's videos that show you how, i think it took me about 10 minutes. Just get your model number off your charger and find one for lithium. IIRC, they're only about $100. Not super expensive, but not super cheap either. I'd help you, but I'm up in Vegas.
NEVER cut into the electonics of your car. Just work from the ass end. Looking bloody cold, just coming into summer here in South Australia. Having major dental work so no camping for spring and summer is too hot. My Man is not happy about it but come fall/autumn we'll be off like a bucket of prawns in the sun 🌞.
PS lithium batteries are definitely the way to go. Definitely look after your alternator. It's a deep dive, good luck 🍀. Have a freezer in the back of our 4wd, brilliant for a cold scotch and coke at any time.

Yeah actually, that is why I did the video, Robert! Thanks for the suggestion! I really appreciate it. 🌵🌲

Freezing water makes me shiver. Sounds like it's about time to get to warmer places!
You are so right about that. 🌵🌲
thanks for the video

Yeah, you are right about the ending 🌵🌲
Looks like a great chair! It is still warm here in my state. Stay warm this winter!
Its the feather that floated away from the book Forrest Gump had at the end of the movie

Hello GO it' always amazing to watch you're amazing video with you're sweet little dogs have a wonderful night 🌉
Thank you so much! It is always great to hear from the viewers! We are looking forward to many more adventures 🌵🌲🐕🦺🐕
In Southern CA we are still high 60's to low 70's in the day and high 40's to low 50's at night. Looks like a great chair. 🙂

I was thinking that I would install the lithium batteries inside the trailer where it should never get below freezing. Thanks for the tips. 🌵🌲
Underpinning will help keep the cold out under the trailer
It’s a good idea 🌲🌵
Get a couple bigger batteries hooked up in parallel, rather than a bunch of smaller ones hooked up in series

Are you heading to Quartzite soon? Maybe you are there now enjoying the warmth with the kids.
We are still hitting freezing temps at night! 🌲🌵🐕🦺🐕
OK wait. You're not alone this time, right GO? Who was running the camera?? Can't fool us, LOL!

Yeah it’s sticky like a web. But seems clumpy like a plant. I’ve seen a few more 🌵🌲

Well I’m just not getting enough sun for my panels to power the furnace and tank heaters at night so I must conserve. 🌲🌵🐕🦺🐕
