@@harbringerboredom2353 if I'm not mistaken that is a my dad's favourite Chinese instrument that he ranted half a hour about despite not knowing how to play an instrument himself
I used to date a girl who while a music major in college back in the late 90s copublished a paper with her father (who was a sound engineer for the state highway administration) detailing exactly how music could be made utilizing appropriately spaced rumble strips on highways. The idea was that it could help wake up drivers while converting highway noise to music and lessening unpleasant noise polution. This is most likely the result of their research.
It's designed to surprise/entertain drivers so they're less likely to fall into road hypnosis, or break them out of it. Other similiar designs include 'trivia' signs with questions and answers separated by a few hundred feet to help increase alertness.

My guitar teacher joked that the main reason was "People will drive backwards on it to find hidden satanic messages"
They did a musical highway in a city near where I live once and scraped it off within a month because local residents complained about the noise. They went crazy with the same tune playing over and over at slightly different intonations as people pass with varying speeds. Great concept for desert roads, but terrible idea for urban areas
I like how the barcode scanner isn't just a trigger for a software instrument or anything but directly uses the signal as audio. It's got that very rough proto-electronic music quality to it, just buzzes and boops because it's not really meant to be a synth.
The first one, the barcode scanner, sounds really industrial like. It's something you'd hear on German industrial music or goth EDM. The euphone was amazing as well. Very relaxing to listen to. And of course the sheng. Her playing Super Mario Bros. on it is seriously talented. Totally underrated in my book and everyone else's. Now, the "guitarridoo" is quite unique. Sounds good and strange at the same time. And of course the musical road is a fun little thing to experience on a road trip. Finally the harpejji. It's a very happy sounding tune. A very joyful tune being played with a tone of epicness.
In case you were curious, the thing in the thumbnail is a ham radio made by Jeri Ellsworth, not actually a musical instrument. I think she's in the thumbnail because it looks cool or because of her homemade Keytar, which is made out of an old computer keyboard.
Reminds me of a long-ago story from The Reader's Digest's "Humor in Uniform" section. The Army put sheet music in front of machine gunners to teach them to pause in order to avoid overheating the barrel.

Yeah, the uniform is the music sheet!
For everyone wondering: the second instrument is called a Euphone. They come in many kinds, shapes and sizes.
Thanks!
For some more, take a look at the cristal Baschet, which use kind of the same technology.
I'm wearing headphones and not sure how I feel about the euphone. Made me kinda uncomfy for some reason
