- Have a listen to some of the unusual instruments that I came across lately.
Here´s some info to each instrument, followed by a link to the original video.
#1 Factory Fan Bass: By attaching a disk with holes to the fan, it converts blinks of lights to electric signals and generates sound from a bass amplifier. Different numbers of holes can generate a musical scale, and turning on/off of the power makes it roar.

#2 A nyckelharpa is a traditional Swedish musical instrument. It is a string instrument or chordophone. Its keys are attached to tangents which, when a key is depressed, serve as frets to change the pitch of the string.

Carnyx sent chills down my spine. What a legendary instrument. Imagine hearing this 2000 years ago when you are about to enter a battle
I'm your 200th liker here & bye.
The Carnyx sounds disturbingly beautiful to me. I would love to hear it traversing a post apocalyptic open world in a game, or thrown into a prog rock album interlude.
It sent shivers down my spine in this educational setting, I couldn't fathom the feeling of it being masterfully crafted along an entire art piece designed to be enhanced by it.
You think it's terrifyingly beautiful now imagine what it would sound like if you were a Roman soldier stationed in those areas where this would have been used and just hearing this thing start to wail out of nowhere. Most likely from a forest. Having never heard it before
Looks like this guy's family could have owned for over 150 generations...
reminds me of atla
@@CT-1902 yeah absolutely terrifying I would imagine
At the beginning of it being played reminded me of the silent hill siren, scary lol
The fan bass is DEFINITELY industrial rock material
When he first starts it up, it sounds like the beginning of Prison Sex by Tool.
Bjork used it in a few of her songs.
That one in particular is made by Fantasticos Electronicos!
NIN needs to see this

the carnyx is really terrifying. could you imagine marching to battle on a cold day with all of your brothers, standing opposite the other army, and that shit is playing? i'd lose my mind
It looks scary too with that face
Then you whip out the gummy bear piano
It’s so cool
Now imagine they are also naked and covered in paint

The hammered dulcimer sounds so beautiful, it's like a piano and a guitar in one
The carnyx has such a primal sound to it, you can feel great emotion from the sound it creates

2:10 the hammered dulcimer is anything but unusual.
It's used quite a bit in video game soundtracks, especially Skyrim. The song "Ancient Stones" has the best example.
Also used a lot in alpine folk music.
@@strawberryjam3670 and it fits really well
It’s still an unusual instrument
The sound of the fan , at the beginning , is incredible ; it recalls me some electronic music from the 80's/90's .
Imagine how terrified the Romans must have been to hear the Carnyx blaring out through the forest.
Imagine being a Celt
not as terrified as they would have been of an electric fan bass

Yes bro
True
I KNOW
Thank you for mentioning the song!!! It was so familiar but I couldn’t place it till I read your comment!! It was really annoying me that I couldn’t figure it out!!
True, but what happened right afterwords
I like the hammered dulcimer players family listening to him proudly.
That's what I want.
0:22 this is cool, I'm definitely a fan now. No jokes intended
No ones talking about how the hammered dulcimer definitely sounds like the instrument used to make old ringtones
this makes so much sense 😂😂😂👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
They're also not talking about how everybody wants to rule the world is being played on a hammered dulcimer
@@connection_ok so THATS why it sounded so familiar!
@@connection_ok I came here to find this the second I heard it.
I was thinking more along the lines of hold music
So no one is talking about the pvc pipe one, where he slapped that guys hand ON BEAT?!?!!??!?!?!?!
Just saw that, and the dude behind him trying to drag him back lmao
I was just gonna comment on this lol
That was quick thinking. He could have just ignored him.
A good percussionist can do anything on beat, that’s literally their job
His name is pipe guy you can find him on youtube he's pretty good
If you know how to play an instrument, it wouldn't be hard to perform a task on beat..
The hand clap at the end was elite!
the nyckelharpa sounds so beautiful, im suprised no one’s talking about it
I'd guess because it's very similar in sound to a violin, though it's got a different action.
Because the guy playing was kinda bad ;(
It's a very beautifull instrument when playing actual traditional songs. For example "hårgalåten" on nyckelharpa can be completely magical when you have a player who knows what he is doing.
@@gaffalstudios3617Bad? The guy was playing absolutely beautifully!!
@@garfielffan6954 I mean sure. I think it's my musician's ear being picky. But you can easiy learn what this guy is playing in under a week if you have prior experience with other string instruments. No offence to this dude though he probably just picked the instrument up.
Does anyone have a source for it? What song was that?
4th Instrument: funny gummy bear keyboard
5th Instrument: Ancient wind instrument that fills all who hear it with a sense of dread and impending doom

The way the pvc guy integrated the high five into the song is pretty sick. Normally you'd have to leave him hanging because you're playing, but he played it off in the coolest possible way, keeping the music going, and saving the high five guy from looking foolish. What an absolute champion.

At 4:10, it was so smooth when the PVC xylophone guy high-fived the dude (who was extremely situationally unaware by offering a high-five to someone playing an instrument with two hands) with the sandal to the beat.
No, he isn't situationally unaware. He is possessed by a demon and the demon knows exactly what it's doing. We have to stop explaining the bad behaviour away. Trust me. Evil hides behind acting dumb...
it was a calculated risk
Thanks for including the names and little details on each one, instead of leaving us hanging like some compilations do.
Finally! I've been looking for the instrument EVERYWHERE. One of my favourite musicians actually uses a Factory Base Fan for her songs. Check out Kira Killer by Zutomayo! It's a fantastic use of the instrument, even having its own solo at the end. We should really promote using more instruments, even in places where they seemingly might not fit.
Imagine hearing the Carnyx in a dark forest on a full moon night and you’re tripping on mushrooms.😂😳

dont use drugs
Mushrooms are the safest "drug" available. Safer than Marijuana. And nobody has ever been addicted to mushrooms.
@@traviscalvert457 typical drug user talk. if you like to use, use it, but as every drug you can do and see crazy shit while tripping on it. the thing with mushrooms is that it is portrayed as soooo safe but actually isnt. the safe levels of usage depends a lot on the type of the shroom, and people often use it way over the "recommended" amount as it is something with very little to no study developed about it. drugs arent good and will never be.
