I haven’t used iOS 9 much until recently, it is a solid version as long as you’ve got a decent device. Sure the A5 chip will support it, but it’s way better on iOS 8 or 6. A6 and newer run iOS 9 really well.
I think the mini 1 is probably in the best position for 9. It’s still slow and annoying and all, but it’s alright ish. Have fun finding apps compatible with it though
Fun memories. I can remember how excited I was in October 2011 foir the big release coming from a 3GS 32 to 64G. I used this as my backup even alongside 53 & beginning of 6S Plus. Back then, things felt slower sooner then now. I was using that 6S Plus as backup into my XS Max. Surprisingly, albeit a tad slow at times, it's running currently patched iOS 15.7.6. It's my old iPod Touch as now I use an XS Max in same way along a 13 Pro Max.
Great video and love your content also I downgraded my iPhone 4 GSM 3.1 to ios 6.1.3 plus a jailbreak it took a long time but the phone was INSANELY more useful keep up the content
Thanks for suffering, I really enjoyed your vid, I think it’s really interesting how an old phone performes on a daily basis today. I have a 4S on iOS 6 and it runs buttersmooth.
I’ve currently got an active same card in my iPhone 4s here in Australia you can still activate a iPhone 4, 4s , 5 , 5c 5s on 3G networks 3G network isn’t set to shut down here in Australia until 2024
I agree that the iPhone 4S felt very slow on iOS 9.3.6, so I was able to downgrade mine to iOS 6.1.3 and that helped it feel a bit faster. I think the 4S probably should've stopped on iOS 8.4.1.
@@MattsTech I think the software problem that the iPhone 4S had where it had too long software support where the hardware couldn't properly handle the last version of software was the exact opposite of the software problem that the older Samsung S series flagships had where their software support was too short and you ended up with a phone that still had very powerful hardware and very good performance on their last version of software, but unfortunately they couldn't be updated any farther.
A more fair comparison would've been to compare it at the end of life on iOS-8 or 9 in 2015 along a 6S Plus. As I was still sort of using it as my 64gb iPod. it was slow, frose or crashed on iOS-9. Battery was already an issue by 2014. But even new it wasn't all that. I was new into TH-cam vlogging & you absolutely needs a battery bank. yo. But in all of 2012/13, it rocked. Seri adding new languages , I used new German. FaceTime on 3G was so cool. The 1080 video did indeed have image tabulation. Idk recall camera side did.
There a great music player I use on Legacy iOS devices called "HS Player." Its latest version requires iOS 10, but there are compatible versions all the way back to iOS 7. It also has an EQ
amazing video i have a iphone 4 for my collection i got it for extremely cheap 6 dollars on a ebay auction and i want to get the iphone 4s for my collection too
was it running iOS 9 during the challenge? I believe your downgrade video was made after this.after editing this 5 minutes later. i noticed the iOS 9 music app
I have a tutorial on my channel on how to downgrade the 4S to iOS 6, which is far faster than iOS 9. iOS 8 on the 4S isn’t much better than iOS 9, though.
You can downgrade the iPhone 4S to iOS 8.4.1 or 6.1.3 you can also dual boot it to older iOS versions for the iPhone 4S by jailbreaking it and installing Coolbooter.
>AT&T is shutting down the 3G Meanwhile, in Russia, my second mobile operator (Beeline) still supports EDGE (yes, fkn edge). So we can activate old iPhones without problems 😋
Matt's Tech T-Mobile in the US in many states still has 2G GSM and Edge on GSM 1900MHz. Works fine here in Indiana on really old and basic 2G GSM devices
I’d actually suggest neither. I’d go for an iPhone 5 or 5C. Those run the last version of iOS that is 32-bit (being iOS 10), and it’ll run it much better than an iPhone 4S would run 9. The iPhone 4 also can’t run the latest versions of some 32-bit apps due to it only being able to run iOS 7.
Its easy on macOS but while it Legacy iOS kit Linux does support downgrading A7 to iOS 10.3.3 it's impossible to enter pwned DFU for checkm8 devices on Linux@@MattsTech
TH-cam Works with the browser and some games do support iOS 9 and 7 to this day List of games Baldi’s basics iOS 9 or later Rolling balls (ending support soon) iOS 7 or later
Looks like fun, I’ll definitely have to try this! But yeah, iOS 9 isn’t great on these A5 devices. Nice video and good job on the battery swap!
You can downgrade iPhone 4s to iOS 6.1.3 or 8.4.1
ios 9 on the 5c is pretty alright tbh.

i have an iphone 4s too but mine is on ios 9.3.6 how do i change it to ios 6?
@@alanboii look up how to downgrade it’s pretty easy

I agree with you there, 8.4.1, while it probably wasn't super great on the 4S either, it was MUCH better than 9 was.

How about just use it for what phones were made for call/receive calls.

If I use a 4s for a week, I’m just gonna put it on iOS 6 or 7 instead
8/10, didn’t mention school enough

Good to know, thank you! :)
The first iPhone I ever had and used. I lost mine. Still, I don’t think I’d give up my 15 pro max for a 4s
You are my favourite TH-camr now.
Well try using the Samsung galaxy s4 in 2021 too see if it's usable or not?
With a custom ROM, yeah it might not be too bad! Don’t have an S4 though lol.
amazing video i have a iphone 4 for my collection i got it for extremely cheap 6 dollars on a ebay auction and i want to get the iphone 4s for my collection too
I used an 4S for 5 whole months before I upgraded to my current phone I know the pain
I approve of Freakish Ears on a Stand at 3:06
miss that phone on ios 6
i use a white 16gb iphone 4s and its really goof= it works and is very fast the battery is really good i have modifid it it has ios 14
was it running iOS 9 during the challenge? I believe your downgrade video was made after this.after editing this 5 minutes later. i noticed the iOS 9 music app
next week: Using the iPhone 5c for a week
Well, it’d be better than the iPhone 4S. 😆
Matt I feel your pain I tried just to use it just for A afternoon yikes But 4s it is still A beautiful iPhone
this is when you find out how much time you spend on social media

I’ve been using an iPhone 4s for three years
You should try jailbreaking it and try fixing the TH-cam app if you're really that desperate

Dang it, wish stuff like that was around here lol.
In England, Three, EE, O2 and Vodafone (the main UK carriers) all support everything from stuff below EDGE to 5G
Matt's Tech T-Mobile in the US in many states still has 2G GSM and Edge on GSM 1900MHz. Works fine here in Indiana on really old and basic 2G GSM devices
I hope they dont shut it down.
next time you can use the iPhone 3Gs and you order an AT&T SIM card ok you can still use in 2023
Would you say that it would be worth getting a 4S for iOS 9? (App compatibility wise) Or would I be better off just getting a 4 on 7.1.2
I’d actually suggest neither.
If you want a iPhone for 32bit apps then get a 5s and downgrade it to iOS 10.3.3
That’s also a great option, probably the best one, if you know how to downgrade it from 12.
Its easy on macOS but while it Legacy iOS kit Linux does support downgrading A7 to iOS 10.3.3 it's impossible to enter pwned DFU for checkm8 devices on Linux@@MattsTech
Misleading thumbnail. This thing WAS awesome in 2011. It IS awful now though.
Ayyyyy
It's definitely not the kind of phone people just use everyday
You can downgrade an iPhone 4s to iOS 6 or 8
2:39 hey its thiojoe
I love 4s
Those devices win’t be supported anymore since the ended of 3G on other nations, so it is useless to own it anyway.
TH-cam Works with the browser and some games do support iOS 9 and 7 to this day
List of games
Baldi’s basics iOS 9 or later
Rolling balls (ending support soon) iOS 7 or later
But iPhone 5 can use 4g
Yes, but it does not support it while calling, it switches to 3g.
Downgrade to iOS 7, jailbreak, install older versions of apps, fix youtube and discord via tweaks. disable daemons. It will run smooth as butter.
9:40
just downgrade the iphone to ios 6
Ssssss shaven
Try 5s
Potentially. 🤔
