- Band-Maid fans told us if we like Miku's voice, we need to listen to "Sayonakidori" Acoustic Version. This was a very different sound from prior Band-Maid songs, but it really showcases her vocals.

"Sayonakidori", the acoustic version, is one of the reason so many new Band-Maid fans have fallen in love with the group. There are not many rock groups in the world who can literally "melt your face" in one song and turn around and "melt your heart" in the next song. These five talented young Japanese females are the best out there. Their story is one that needs to be told around the world.
And both with the same damn song!

Band Maid has taken the stage as a 1 piece, 2 piece, 3, 4, and 5 piece....NEVER does the music suffer.....Saiki has the power...Miku has the range, she covers both low and high harmonies with Saiki....and yes....there are NO ego's holding our Maids back....humble geniuses....all of them.....its ALL for us

Nice comment from Mrs. Coach on Miku's leadership. There was a question put out "which band member would you like for an hour music lesson". I responded Miku but for a leadership and life skills session. She's truly unique winning an idol contest over thousands then give it up to start a band then taking a back seat on vocals and learning the guitar in order to match her vision of what Band-Maid should be.

Everyone should always remember that Kobato Miku is the visionary and foundation of this band. Her inspiration and willingness to do "whatever it takes" to push this band to the greatness it has achieved. Giving up lead singer and learning to play the guitar are just two examples of her dedication to Band Maid. She is a great musical talent. A clever business woman. An unrelenting promoter. Whatever the band needs Miku does it without question. Bravo Miku.

Miku has the voice of an angel, someone pointed out that Miku won and Idol competition, she beat out 2600 other contestants and the prize was to form an Idol band with 2 others and so "Lil Cumin" was born. they recorded a couple of ep's before Miku left the group because she didn't want to only do "cute" music, she wanted to rock out and so Band-Maid was formed. she's truly a genius and visionary. almost impossible to find world class musicians with no ego, but Miku pulled it off. five of the most endearing and adorable characters they are. cheers

My description of Saiki's voice is one of beauty and power. Miku's voice is of sweetness and love.
MIKU made many macho men cry with this song during their US tour last year. She is the most adorable rock star. Even her voice is so cute.

@@HG-kr5dc thank goodness for subtitles. Every time I listen to Sayonakidori I get chills. There is something about knowing their history and how they came to be, that when I listen to any of their songs my eyes well up. No other band that I liked has had that effect on me. We are truly lucky to live in the same world as Band-Maid.

The vision and intelligence of Miku cannot be overstated. She is fully capable of singing the types of songs initially presented by management at the start of Band Maid. Yet she had a vision of the type of songs they should be doing, and that required a more powerful voice than she had. Hence the almost immediate search for a lead singer.
So glad you did this one. It is one of my favorites. Really shows off Miku's voice.
This was the Christmas Acoustic Okyuji from a couple of years ago, the whole show with various set-ups is fantastic!
This was such a great Christmas concert for the fans, if you are not keen on acoustic songs there are plenty of full band maid versions of Sayonakidori (Nightingale) and if you want more Miku lead vocal songs try

The electric live concert version of this is fabulous as well, especially when cheers erupt for Miku's ending vocals lines.

Miku is to be admired for many things- all she wants is success for her band and it's members. There are 14 songs from this set, which Kanami (Lead Guitar) completely re-arranged from the original songs for the acoustic versions. The whole set was live streamed on Christmas day 2021 as a gift to the fans who had be requesting more acoustic songs for quite a while and also the thank the fans for their continuing support during Covid. The is a CD recording of the live stream but no DVD unfortunately. The high note near the end of the song was written in by Kanami to deliberately test Miku's vocal range. She has done that before to test the other band members with resulted in the Unseen World album 2021.
This is the only song Kanami did NOT rework. She left that up to Miku. And except for some help with chording issues, Kanami was hands off. Miku totally rearranged this song, and helped Akane and MISA with their parts as well.

You may be right when you say that Miku could probably kick your ass. In one of the Band-Maid interviews for the "sake bar" series, the members joke about how solid she is built and that touching her back is like touching a rock.🙂

@@CoachCastTV According to some reading I've done, Miku actually had some health problems when she was younger, from what I've found she may have had childhood asthma, so her singing was also to help with her breathing. Miku is also known to be, according to all of the other Ladies in the band, the fastest swimmer. There was a mention of Miku swimming several times a week to help keep in shape. There is a behind the scenes photo from I think the Aftershock Festival of Miku and MISA comparing biceps, and Miku's is visibly much larger. The other Ladies also joke about how wide Miku's shoulders are, especially with how wide the shoulders of her uniform are. They have referred to them as her "Wings". And I haven't been able to confirm it, but Miku also is supposedly a runner, when she can't get time in a pool.

All of them can sing,, misa was a guitarist and vocalist of her former band and kanami the lead guitarist was a singer/ songwriter before bandmaid..

Thanks for sharing Sayonakidori! This acoustic version made me think, how many faces does this band have? It's just not enough to say that they're versatile. It's like three or more bands from different genres exist in one group. This is fantastic!
"Sayonakidori" = Nightingale. (you pronounced it right)! It's Miku's take on Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare. In the play, one can hear the nightingale's song drifting through evening scenes. In one of Shakespeare's most well-known bird references. The Nightingale reference is "Juliet mistakes the lark's song for the nightingale's, hoping that her evening romance with Romeo can continue. Romeo corrects her and departs her bedroom at dawn".
The small pigeon is an absolute poet. She usually gets one song per album where she takes lead vocals. And an absolute rock star! The full hard rock version of "Sayonakdori" is incredible too!

Just shows every person in this band is totally important skill wise in Band Maid. Akane , also has a perfect pitch voice as well . What the hell ? These girls never cease to amaze me. And Miku's voice is a beautiful passion thing here, which is heartbreaking and cute at the same time. You can't ignore her, she is a gem ! And Misa filling the track with her her beautiful melodies, naturally. Miku's voice brings me to tears, every time I hear this song.
Miku is a mezzo-soprano with a bright tone, compared to a singer like Amy Lee, who is also a mezzo- soprano but with a dark tone. Darker tones lend itself better to rock style music while brighter tones are better suited for pop. Combined with Saiki's(alto-contralto) darker tone, brings really cool layers in their harmonies that's perfect for hard rock (think David Lee Roth/Michael Anthony)!!!👍👍🤘🤘🤘

The pigeon really doesn’t get enough credit. Everyone gushes over Kanami, Saki, Misa, and sometimes Akane, but almost never Miku, it’s like she’s almost taken for granted, when she’s not being ridiculed for Omajinai time, Po. Perhaps it’s just unwritten that she is actually unparalleled as an artist, as well as leader, in this genre today.

I think one of the best examples of the beauty of Miku's voice is Corallium. Yes, they are "back-up" vocals, but they transport you to a higher plane of existence. Among the many things that make Corallium one of my favorite songs ever, Miku's vocals rise (literally) above the rest.

This song showcases Miku as a singer AND as the lead guitarist. Well done, Miku. PS: Miku complained that Akane kept giving her a "proud parent" look. Well, we were ALL proud of Miku.

This is from a 14 song acoustic set that the maids released on xmas day 2021. The band played songs in different combinations - all 5, trios and duets. There are some electric versions of SAYONAKIDORI out there, including fancams, and Miku always gets a cheer on that high note. Akane was using bamboo rods to keep the drums muted and, as you spotted, sang too. Great reaction as always.

Miku has a very sweet voice with a very good range and breath control. If you check out her solo gig as "Cluppo", you will really see this other side of her. And the thing that sometimes gets lost in the shuffle is that Miku is an amazing lyricist, you can see it in virtually every song Band Maid has done. She has a knack for creating complicated, but very understandable lyrics that are amazing. I've seen her do this live as shows twice and everyone in the crowd was visibly moved. Our little pigeon is also a bit of a Renaissance woman. And when they did the Band Maiko song "Gion-Cho" (which is another song you guys HAVE to react to), which is about the geisha culture in Japan and specifically in Kyoto, the ancestral home of the geisha culture, Miku wrote the lyrics in the specific dialect of Kyoto to make sure she got it right. They are unlike any band or group I have ever heard in my 60+ years of following music.
This was part of the best Christmas present we Maidiacs ever received! This whole acoustic performance was brilliant! Even Akane gets into the action doing backing vocals in this one! The Pigeon is sweet and so talented, and humble on top of it!

This concert was the best Christmas gift ever.
This is from their acoustic concert they streamed live a couple of years ago, I did see it live myself even an online concert is worth seeing, I have seen two of those along with them live in LA. They did 14 songs, and Kanami actually shreds an acoustic. In that concert, you do hear all of them sing, though akane, kanami and misa just do backup and harmonizing. One song Akane plays a cajon instead of her drums. All 5 of them can sing, they also all know how to play a variety of classical instruments.

You pretty much got that pronunciation correct, although I suspect a native Japanese will laugh.
I like this version simply because Miku carries the guitar part solo, and also notice that Akane is singing backup! Band-Maid keeps trying to get Misa to sing a few words now and then, but you have to watch her like a hawk to catch the few times our Barefoot Assassin steps to the mic.
Misa prefers the "distressed" paint on her Black Cloud bass that I call "Old Yeller", but Black Cloud has just started shipping a Misa Signature 5-string bass of her specification. She's wanting to see posts from those who've taken delivery and played them. She is hoping everyone likes it! Band-Members say she looks fearsome, but she's actually quite shy but can be be very silly and humorous at times.
Sayonakidori (Nightingale) is from their fan club 2020 Christmas concert. Video disks are no longer available, but the entire concert can be accessed through their fan club members only website and fans can order music CDs at limited times.

For a different look at Miku's vocals, a few years ago she launched an alternate band as an April Fool's joke (to the Maids, a "joke" is just doing something unexpected, but still really high-level) called "Cluppo". It's much more pop, but their first video is "Peace and Love". Great job! 🤘😎👍

Miku created Band Maid with her as the Vocalist. After rehearsing Akane, MISA, and Kanami told her, her voice was too soft to front the band with the music she wanted them to play.
Originally when Akane, MISA and Kanami told Miku they needed another guitar for a fully sound. Miku planned the new singer would play it. But she realized Saiki wasn't a guitarist. So Miku said she would learn to play the guitar if Kanami would be her Sensei. Kanami does all the guitar parts when they are recording. Kanami then teaches Miku the new song. It's time management for Miku.

This was from their Xmas day accoustic concert (2021 if I remember correctly), which was fantastic. There were various permutations of the members from all 5 playing, the trio you see here, Kanami and Saiki together and Kanami, Saiki and Misa. Just think Kanami transposed alll these hard hitting rock songs into acoustic versions. Yes Misa could not play guitar at the start of Band-Maid but through sheer persitance, hard work and Kanami's expert tutelage she is now an accomplished electric and acoustic guitarist. The curious thing about this band is that Miku is the spiritual leader and the girl with the party horn and Akane is the true leader since, as Akane said in an interview, she realized that she was the most normal of all and she herself became the leader. ...and the others approved. However, they are all leaders of themselves, as we see Misa in her orbital world while doing her 'space walks' but tied by the cord to the band/ship or Kanami as the leader in composition and execution or as Saiki leading the 'we start now' and 'we end now' acting as a commander of a cavalry brigade with his saber/micro. All together, they are like a cannonball, solid, round and compact. Unstoppable. This band is a miracle.

This song is from a Christmas acoustic special that they did All five members were involved, but they did some songs with smaller units. I'm so glad you caught the fact that Akane the drummer was doing backup singing and also remembering that Miku has come a long way in her ability to play guitar being that she didn't know how to play guitar in the beginning. Interesting fact this song was written by Kanami, and Miku thought she couldn't hit the high notes Kanami insisted she try. You can see the results were great.

This was part of a longer "concert" where the members switched around a bit, so Kanami (the main guitarist) is there, just not in this song.
Miku can sing man, the little pidgeon has an amazing voice. As you said, the fact that she stepped back just because she thought Saiki would be a better fit is in fact insane and shows so much character on her part. Coach was also right about the guitar-playing, for the first album she is pretty much faking it and doing backup-vocals. You can see it in the MV for Thrill for example, not a lot of close-ups on her guitar there. Kanami did all the parts when they recorded in the beginning, although now Miku of course plays her parts perfectly.
