I'm a 57 year old Brit. I flew to Japan last year just to see these ladies play live. I saw them four times across Japan in nine days. They didn't play the same set twice. They are the best live act I have ever seen - and I have seen the best. And just think, usually their shows (they call them 'servings' - well they are maids after all) last for 2+ hours at this level. No support bands, no encores. The serving this song was recorded at lasted a legendary 3.5 hours! So yeah, see them if you can, you will not regret it!

I'm a 74 -year- old guy and I have not been so excited about a band since the 70's bands. Incredible songs, talent, style. and showmanship. And the barefoot assassin Misa (bass) is mesmerizing to watch. She is called that because of the outfit she wears and that fact she usually performs barefoot. Hats off to Miku (backup vocals, guitar) for coming up with the idea for this band!

I saw them 5 times in 2022 and 3 times in 2023. Each show was somehow even better than the last. Maybe partly because they're just overwhelming and you kind of have to adjust. And those were US tour shows without all the lasers and whatnot in this one - and yet they were just as good because of the connection they have with their audience. A Band-Maid concert is a magical experience.

This was recorded from their tour finale, so there is much more stage presentation. I saw them last year in Houston, and it was in a much smaller venue, and didn't have all the lasers and lights. However, saying all that, I enjoyed the concert just as much, the music, the Ladies themselves, how they interacted with the audience, how the fans interacted before the show waiting in line. When the concert was over I left the venue in my wheelchair, with almost no voice, my arms and shoulders were tired and feeling the good kind of sore, and my cheeks were hurting from smiling so much. I also was wondering how the time had gone that fast. It didn't seem like 2 and half hours had gone by, yet it had.
So if you ever have the opportunity to see the Ladies live, Take it. I guarantee you will enjoy yourselves.

They toured in the US twice last year and once in 2022. Only the 'special' larger Japan shows have all the production, normally because they are streaming the show and/or releasing it as a Blu-Ray/DVD. They don't need the production anyway they are entertaining without it and every show is different, setlists and shenanigans change each time.

Band-Maid writes all their songs with live performance in mind. They actively engage the audience in performances, encouraging sing-a-longs, moshing, etc. They talk to the audience during "breaks" and include a lot of humor; it goes over very well even though their English isn't perfect. That's part of their charm and they invent new ways to troll each other for every show. I saw them twice in 2023: at a small club in Detroit where they played for over two hours, and an outdoor festival in Ohio where they play 8 songs. They almost always start their shows with "Domination" and end the show with "Endless Story", a rousing sing-a-long. Otherwise, they could easily play a different set list every night; their catalog is incredibly deep.

They've toured here a couple of times. Don't worry, they'll be back. However, the first tour I was a mini tour. Just small clubs. Then bigger rooms the second tour. They should be playing arenas like they do in Japan, and I think eventually they will. But if you want to see them up close and personal, see then ASAP. There's a version of this some from their appearance at Lollapalooza. Miku usually writes the lyrics, but Saiki wrote these words herself. She was in a long term relationship. Maybe that's what inspired her. They are energetic. This was the finale for the 10th Anniversary Tour at Yokohama Arena and they played over 3 Hours with no opening act.

My intuition says you guys are going to appreciate the Japanese scene--of which you have just scratched the surface. Band-Maid are the best rock band right now, but Japan has had an active all-girl rock and metal scene since at least 1981. This is a starter list of all-female (or in eight cases, mixed gender) metal, punk, hard-rock and post-rock bands, with founding dates where I know them. It's alphabetical, except for the first three, which are at the top of the list for historical reasons. They set the table for the explosion of Japanese female hard-rock, punk and metal bands. Note: I have tried to pick clips that are high quality and are representative of the band's style.
If you put the question out there, you are likely to get suggestions mainly for Aldious, Band-Maid, Babymetal, Lovebites, Nemophila, Unlucky Morpheus and Wagakki Band. You can’t go wrong with any of those, but find time to check out more of the bands on this list. They are all worth the time and deserve the love, and many will really surprise you. My personal favorites include Asterism, Bridear, Doll$Boxx/Gacharic Spin, existTtrace, Hagane, Hanabie, Mary’s Blood, Sokoninaru and Tricot. Ok, the list (note, this is too long to fit in one comment, so look for part 2 as well):
Show-Ya (1981 The original female J-metal band, founded before Metallica-this is from their 24th (!) anniversary concert-and they are still touring) They have a strong Deep Purple vibe, and in my view they belong in any rock or music hall of fame: “I am the Storm” th-cam.com/video/oJ_5Gv3vFjQ/w-d-xo.html
Shonen Knife (1981 The world’s first bubblegum punk band. They have done several world tours, and opened for Nirvana, who were big fans. They also perform as a Ramones tribute band called Osaka Ramones): th-cam.com/video/w9LUlYzOiWs/w-d-xo.html
Destrose (2005; This band was never stable, but has become almost mythic in metal history, because they spun off so many great bands, including Lovebites--you will recognize the drummer and bassist.) Here are two clips-a lot of them get taken down so please let me know if either of these is dead:

Band-Maid (2013 OK, there are 160+ great songs by them. Easily the best known band on this list other than Babymetal, they are more hard rock and prog than metal. Did a 14 city US tour in 2022 that sold out 48 hours after being listed, and a 2023 global 10th anniversary tour. There is a ton of fan footage of that tour up on youtube, a lot of which is great stuff.) Here is a live clip: th-cam.com/video/FHpuEqMAcDg/w-d-xo.html

Disqualia (2015 Destrose spin-out, featuring Narumi, one of the best guitarists of this generation, and Hazuki, then an up-and-coming talent who is now a core member of Nemophila) th-cam.com/video/-M5zBKrTJRg/w-d-xo.html

Gacharic Spin (2009 Founded by two high school classmates, Hana (Dr, Vo, multiple instruments) and Koga (B) who had already been in other bands (and was previously a lingerie model). Lonesome Blue (2021 Progressive rock, pop-metal fusion. This was Narumi’s (see below) long-awaited new band; unfortunately it looks like they have disbanded after only one album.) This song is a wild fusion of classic Disco with Metal: th-cam.com/video/aEdyEEnMTy8/w-d-xo.html
Lovebites (2016 Modern Power, Speed, Thrash and Heavy Metal. Already making a global splash, melodic but face-meltingly technical. Here is their most famous official MV-it’s even better than Shadowmaker IMO) th-cam.com/video/hLFelI93VkM/w-d-xo.html
Mardelas (2014 Another spin-off from Destrose; mixed male/female; leader Marina Hebiishi has one of the best voices in the biz) th-cam.com/video/Wd8P7wTnWJs/w-d-xo.html
Mary's Blood (2008 The first major Destrose spin-out; Jedi-level lineup.) Here, Saki murders her guitar without breaking any nails: th-cam.com/video/MLM2unV0kwU/w-d-xo.html
Maximum the Hormone (1998 Crazy, chaotic mashups of deathcore, nu-metal, pop and high-speed rapping. Co-founder Nao (drums) is the female member of the band. She has been a major influence on female drummers throughout Japan.) This clip captures just a bit of the madness: 予襲復讐 (Yoshu Fukushu) th-cam.com/video/beN5ep5MrdY/w-d-xo.html

I saw them in concert last year in Salt Lake City of all places and they are incredible. The light show etc. was minimal, but Band Maid was phenomonal! I an in my seventies and these women are among the very best bands I have ever seen, They are up there with Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabath, Aerosmith, Guns and Rose. You just can't get enough of them. Rock/metal had died for me until I heard my first Band Maid. God I thank you every day for giving us this band. Excellent reaction you two! I love that you let it play out as much as you dared to. I also really liked that you had turned up the volume for this performance, since with Band Maid there is so many little things they are doing all the time that is lost with the volume down. Thanks again guys! I am looking forward to traveling down that music highway with you and also getting to hear some more of these woen along the way!!!! BTW, if you get to listen to "Endless Story" from this same concert, you will encounter another special reason their fans love them so much. I have never seen a band do what they did in this, ever!

I think what you are struggling to express is why BandMaid is so great. They go the extra mile. I bet you a kabillion bucks, in the beginning they over composed and then pulled it back. By now they are past masters of writing and performing a proper BandMaid song. So part of what your ear/brain is picking up are the extra triplets from Akane when four on the floor would suffice. Your apprehending how MISA skips around doing counterpoint to the guitar then harmonizing with the vocals. Sometimes she playing her own complementary solo under it all barely discernable.
This probably goes without saying, but you are hearing thousands of hours of learning, practice of skills and rehearsal so everything comes out just the way they like it. They come from a culture where perfection is expected from moving companies to smelting iron to wrapping up a rice ball. Their culture prizes collective harmony in society and work. So here they are 10 plus yrs later crafting exquisite rock and roll. They've sublimated their egos in service to the music. Make no mistake they're some mighty strong egos here but they are all pointed in the same direction. The secret ingredient is LOVE. Love for playing live. The love of each other. The love for the fans and the fans for the Maids. That's the greatest power on Earth. They gots it in spades!

Saiki, vocals wrote the lyrics. The back story is a close friend's husband cheated on her. So Saiki came up with the lyrics, with the band creating the music.

Great reaction to the Maids. Welcome Master Cody and Princess Sophia to the wonderful world of Band Maid. Love seeing reactors being transformed into Maidiacs. Really liked the expression by Sophia at the "Ten minute..." lyric. And you both had your expressions moments.😂 Many try to genre lock the Maids, but Band-Maid is the genre. They mix and match at will, often in the same song. Subscribed. PO!🕊 🤘😆🤘
Definitely worth seeing them live if you can. I've seen them multiple times on their 2022 US tour, multiple times on their split 2023 US tour and multiple times in Japan, including this show and their spinoff show. They have so many great songs,, their 10th Anniversary show of 33 songs (technically 32 different songs) and 3hrs and 40mins wasn't enough for them to do all the songs they wanted to include in this show. The spin-off show featured a 23 song setlist, which included 20 other songs not performed in the Yokohama Arena finale show. BTW...if you can see them in Japan, it's a great time to go. The Yen to $ makes it a time to visit. PO!🕊

It's such a bittersweet feeling, balancing the pure joy at seeing Miku's dreams of world domination come true with the realization that they probably won't be serving at small venues like the Ace of Spades in Sacramento (@1,000 max) or August Hall in San Francisco (950). As INCREDIBLE as that 10th Anniversary tour finale was (and I WILL get to Japan to see one of their Big shows!), theres something really special about the connection that you feel at the smaller places. 🤘😂🤘

At live shows, you get these added or extended solos and intros. A bonus for the Masters and Princesses who attend their Okyu-ji's (what they call their live shows..."Servings"). Their MC's are also very entertaining. Especially in the MC where Miku (second lead, backing vocals, rhythm guitar, main lyricist and band founder) does her Omajinai Time (Magic Spell Time). She is often trolled by the other members during this time. But the master entertainer Miku is, she moves with the flow and incorporates into her routine, which just makes it more fun to watch. This along with the fact they tweak every show's setlist, make each show unique. BTW...They also call their fans Masters and Princesses. This along with the Okyu-ji and Omajinai Time and their Maid Battle Armor (what they call their outfits) all ties in with Miku's vision for the Japan Maid Cafe Theme image she wanted the band to have. PO!🕊

Okay next songs should be Don't You Tell ME and then Endless Story from this same show. When watching endless story remember that this is the last song of a 3-hour and 15 minute show to commemorate their 10th year together. It's very emotional. Leave the subtitles on for sure for that one.

Thank you for reacting to the greatest rock band in the universe. Saw them live twice last year on their US tour. No need to go to Japan,. They tour the US every tour except for Covid. Edit- 1 last thing. They are known for sounding amazing live. It's no editing or studio tricks. They sound this great in person.

Their 1st US visit was at an anime convention, Sakuracon, in Seattle 2016. 2nd was the J-Pop Summit in San Francisco in 2017. Their MV "Before Yesterday" was filmed during the Seattle trip. Then their first regular concerts where LA and SF in 2018. In 2019, NYC, Dallas, LA. Then COVID happened. So they came back in 2022 for a big tour and another big tour in 2023, where they did a lot of the music festivals. They haven't been to Europe since 2019 so European fans hope their next tour will include Europe.

Subbed to hopefully see you checking out more of our Maids. I was at their last show of their 2022 tour at the House of Blues in Chicago and then saw them at Pointfest in St. Louis in May of 2023 and am waiting impatiently for them to return to the States. They're amazing live!

They don't quite so many lights when they play in the US, since they play at mid-size venues. But the all the sound and energy are there! I got to see them at the Varsity Theater in Minneapolis last year, about three standing rows back from the stage.

A Taylor Swift break up song sounds like a love letter compared to this smoker. “Ten minutes of limp gymnastics”! OUCH. The deepest burn I’ve ever heard in a song. Yeah, don’t make Saiki mad is right!

They have a new album coming out in a few months. There will also be a US tour near the release.
