    But Mark Rippetoe says you should start with the bar an inch away from your shins. It is obvious that Ed Coan knows nothing about deadlifting.

      You can start with the bar wherever you want, but if it's heavy enough, it won't leave the floor till it's over mid foot. Rip's setup works every time, for everybody, because it puts the hips where they're going to be when the bar actually leaves the floor, so it makes sense to start there. Anecdotally though, I actually lift more with lower hips. Feels like I get better leg drive and hips snap through without having to think about it. YMMV

      @@johnsambo9379 Yes, it does. I've taught 100s of lifters of all shapes and sizes and it works every time.
