My son's marching band in 1996 played HAVE YOU HEARD, LETTER FROM HOME AND MINUANO in band competitions in Southern California, the west and nationally. They won most of their competitions because of their artistry, and this wonderful music that they performed brilliantly. Pat Metheny is an inspiration to all that love music. He is one of the all time greats I have ever heard. This music penetrates my soul and it makes my cry it is so beautiful. There is nothing like it!
Pat metheny is probably one of the most un-celebrated guitarists yet he is one of the best! pure genius, no-one plays like him. I listen to his music everyday and i'm only 16.
Now that your 29, do you still listen to PMG? Lyle did some wonderful music, with his musicians and solo before he died. That was a terrible loss. I think there’s a point in life the death of folks you know and those you don’t personally know, but it leaves a hole in the world. Maybe it’s because I am old. I’ve listened to these guys since about 1978. The first time I saw Pat, he was touring with Joni Mitchell and he played her song Amelia. I was hooked. I was also and still am a Joni fan. My best to you SCJ
@@SusanJohnson-xl3ys I'm 26 and I feel the hole you're talking about that Lyle left behind. I really enjoy his own music but also the contributions he made to the PMG.
I've had the fortune to see him live 4 times. He is consistantly great. A living legend such as him will never let you down! You simply must catch him soon at any cost! He is still young, but not that young!
All of Metheny's work is perfection, from his melodies to the harmony and structure. It is no wonder itunes has a radio channel dedicated entirely to Metheny's work. As far as I know, the only station exclusive to a single artist.
THIS MUSIC IS LIKE THE CLOCK TIC TACKING THROUGH THE LIFE THAT PASSES WITHOUT A FILTER IN THE HEART, EXPLODING IN THE MIND, ERUPTING SOME TEARS THAT WASHES OUR LONELY FACES. THEN ECLODES INTO RITMIC HAPINESS. LIKE RECRIATING DREAMS FORM THE WRECK. ENDING ON A VITORIOUS PLAN.
I've heard this live, on CD and never thought it could get any better. I was wrong. The orchestra just put it over the top. I'd love to see him play with a full symphony, or should I say hear him. My eyes would fill with tears of joy so I'd probably would only be able to hear this master at work. This song will live forever as one of my favorite PMG tunes. I have leaking eyes right now.
Imagine how it's like to be Pat Metheny. Think about how it must feel to be able to write such a masterpiece. The looks on his face kinda seems as if he says "Wow, I wrote this. I actually wrote this. Go Me!!!" Kudos, Metheny and the Metropoole Orchestra.
I have been listening intently to the awe-inspiring genius of Pat Metheny for the past 40+ years! Is there a more talented musician on the PLANET!? Pat Metheny is, in my mind, an unparalleled composer, performer, innovator and band leader whose depth of talent may never be reached. Does the man ever sleep? If he isn't performing in a new configuration of top-notched modern musicians then you might find him working on the next phase of his Orchestrion project.
Hi David, Guess who i saw last week at Ronnie Scotts? It was a birthday present from my girlfriend, My brain is still numb with seeing live, up front close and in full view. he does not a day older than before, amazing fantastic a one off genius perfect,
Du hast alles gesagt! Diese Darbietung ist (für mich) eine der Besten! Dazu mit einem vollem Orchester! Pat Metheny ist schon außergewöhnlich ... gut! Ich vergaß! ;-) Travels - keine Andere! Hiervon gehen wir aus!
I can't stop watching this. It is a spectacular event. He is simply the greatest. It is difficult to decide on a favorite composition of Metheny's. They are all so brilliant. He is a true genius. Perhaps that is why he wears the same shirt in every performance throughout the years so as to not expend any thought energy regarding fasion, but rather, in his music - the very thing that he is!
THIS IS AND THE WAY MUSIC SHOULD BE HEARD. LIVE. AND WITH ARTISTS THAT TRULY WANT TO MAKE YOU PART OF IT. LOOK AT THE CAMERAS IN THE BACKGROUND AND THE LOOK ON THE PEOPLE'S FACES. TRULY GIFTED.
Metheny is brilliant. He is a master on the lines of Mozart, Bach. HIGHLY spiritual music! One the most ecstatic experiences of my life..... a concert in 1994.
There’s a language to Pat Metheny’s guitar, that is universal. It cuts right through you. Musical genius of highest order is Pat Metheny. Like Stevie, Pat was born with the happiness gene.
A fantastic arrangement and orchestration featuring the sensational composing and performing talents of master guitarist Pat Metheny over the haunting mystical changes of his composition with wordless vocals that add to the its other-worldly feel. This is also a rare appearance of the maestro without his brilliant pianist Lyle Mays who appeared on the original grammy-winning album Still Life (Talking). So much pure musical beauty and truth in one album. Bravo.
Once again, Metheny and the group achieve that brilliant intangible which great music has always managed to - the ability to elevate the spirit to the birthplace of miracles.
absouloutly awe inspiring , God given and inspired is my believe . Pat , i adore your music , Thank you . I wish the world was was this musical vibration . love and peace to those that concur xxxx

I simply "LOVE" this composition! It is second to none, in a class unto itself, with a Spiritual essence that transcends any and all worldly concerns! Bravo to the chef for cooking up this masterpiece!
Pat Pat Pat!!!! Thank you so much for sharing your gifts with the world. We are all much better for it! Paul Andrew I've heard from others that Mike's a great guy. Cool, thanks for sharing that. I hope to meet Pat someday as well. Hard to do if you're not attending Berklee, MSM, Juilliard or one of the other Northeastern conservatories though.
Absolutely! The depth of his soul, particularly his passion and joy, is made even more evident in his interviews and live performances. And if you've ever seen him interact with fans, you know what true humility looks like.
Since this is one of my favorites, I have played this song hundreds of times since 87 so my ears are very critical. Man I was completely aurally satisfied. What a damn fine orchestra. No comment about Pat needed.
This gives me some serious Spring/Summer nostalgia. I have no idea how, but it just does. My absolute favorite Metheny tune. Mind you, from 1:30 the clarinets give it a dark sound. I love it! Oh! And you know the orchestra must've loved this piece. How excited did the trumpets get here? 5:24 Of course, Pat gives a nod of approval after that. :D
IMHO it is up there along w/ 'The Ones': 'The First Circle', 'Third Wind', 'Last Train Home', 'Are You Going With Me?', 'San Lorenzo', 'Phase Dance', 'Cross The Heartland'.
... Good day, I'm Dutch and I was there in The Hague in the summer of 2003 ... an incredible unforgettable evening concert of the (Pat)(Metropool)(Group) (lol) ...
Beyond the technique, harmony understanding, composition skills, perfection of the delivery, what impresses is the longevity and his tireless great impact on the world of music. Even if I am not always listening to you, you are my hero man!
So love the simple complexity haunted by a running wistfulness reminiscent of looking out the window at a rainy landscape in the twilight of tears, remembering a glorious time. Wonder-full and rich. The most AWESOME aspect of this performance is hearing the REAL orchestral instruments Lyle Mays was trying to emulate on his Fairlight. There's advantages to both, but it's always so nice to hear what's almost a forgotten/lost artform. It's especially WAAY KEWL when the horns do their build after the piano solo.
