Standard flute cases do have a handle. However, many intermediate and professional flutes come in a French style case without handles. These are best kept in a flute case cover.

The flute's holes are closed by pressing on keys, instead of the hole themselves. With most recorders, though not all, your fingers cover the holes directly to close them.
