I had never thought about how a colorwork yoke is extra thick, so therefore extra warm! The people in the past who came up with this stuff are geniuses!
I’m a new knitter. I can’t wait to watch your step-by-step tutorial on how to make a jumper. Thank you for taking the time to show newbie knitters how to make a jumper😊
Can confirm: step by step was the first thing I've ever knit, ever! (Though am a crocheter) I found it very straightforward, including the optional folded collar and German short rows. I finished it in 1-2 weeks. I've used that knowledge of making a folded collar on other sweaters since :)
I also knit English style, and I don't have any burning desire to change that. I knit as fast as most continental knitters I have seen. I feel like I have better control over my tension and also I like to knit lace and cables and speed is not the point! I do knit 2 handed colorwork though, mostly just because it helps me keep from getting things tangled. Lovely sweaters!
Hello fro Minnesota USA. You could be the age of my grandchildren. This was super helpful for me to see what and how to knit for them. I will look forward to more of this recommendation.
Thank you so much for talking about size inclusion ❤❤❤ I’m not especially fat (what some might call small or mid fat) yet I am outside of their size range as I have a larger bust & broad shoulders. That sucks.
Agree re: MFTK. I think the claim that there is not enough test-knitters in larger sizes out there is always more indicative of a lack of effort in engaging the community.. especially given how large MFTK following is. It is often an excuse in larger brands as to why they don't cater to plus sizes rather than them doing the work to ensure size inclusivity.
yes I agree!! i’m not sure she’s ever actually *made* that claim but it’s just not valid for a following of that size, especially since there’s yarn support and stuff which makes it an especially appealing test. I do understand for smaller followings it’s difficult though; I had upwards of 300 applications to test my recent cardigan pattern with no applications for the largest size.
So much good info! You’re so knowledgeable. I’m 64 and wear L usually so my first thought was that we wouldn’t have enough in common “knitterly” speaking :). I was wrong and I’ll be back!!
We start of with a knitting style which feels comfortable and hense, productive. No at nearly 80 and arthritic, I've happily staying with my American version, learning at 18. The sweaters and other items made have been good-looking as consistent.
I loved seeing all your knitwear! The color work jumper was actually my favorite 😄 It looks extremely cozy. Also, about 20 mins in, I got distracted by the pillow to your right. It would make a cute quilt.
Have just bought some noro tennon to make your step by step jumper for my mum for Christmas - very excited! Thank you for your videos they have been so helpful and interesting!!
Everything you knit is so beautiful and elegant. I will definitely be your subscriber. And: Leave the sweater in the freezer overnight to prevent the hairs from falling out. It definitely works 👍
I'm sitting here listening and doing the step by step sweater from you now ;D this is my first ever knitted thing and I love it and colors I choosed, I'm so grateful for your tutorial, you are incredible teacher! only thing I'm regreting is not doing the german short rows but I think it was to much for me that time, as everything is new. Now I'm doing the sleeve and after knitting for some time with the body I gained confidence that I could do it, but oh well, Probably will make another sweater with you so then I will make them. Thank you dear💝❤❤❤❤
Best video! Thank you for sharing such specific and detailed information about your projects. Super inspiring and helpful. You’re a very talented young woman. 💕
I've just found your channel and I really like your podcast! And your knitted projects look beautiful! I'll definitely keep on watching the other videos. Greetings from Argentina!
May I ask, how did you get rid of the chili oil from the sweater. I spill some tea on my light colored sweater and have no idea how to get rid of it. I was super disappointed and very sad. 😢 Coz I love the sweater soooooo much.
Love this video! I've actually been hesitant to buy MFT patterns bc of the limited sizing, but so many of them are tempting. I do hope she expands her sizing soon!
Hiya, love all these jumpers! I am also an english style knitter and found norgewian style knitting really good for colour work. I find that knitting the traditional continental style makes my hand cramp up so this was a good alternative!
Very nice. Thank you. I love them. I live in the states, and I've exhausted the yarns in this town. Do you have any suggestions of where to shop online for some of the above mentioned yarns? Thanks. Have a good one. :)
Lovely, lovely and informative podcast! One important design feature I like to know right up front is if it's knitted bottom up or top down Top down doesn't fit a broad shouldered small hipped body type very well But thank you so much ALL your sweaters are really nice! I will definitely be subscribing : )
literally everything I knit is top down because I prefer the process! but I guess if that’s the case it must also fit me better because i’m like 2 clothing sizes bigger for trousers than tops lol
Have you tried the yarn shop in Ely? It's a nice day out from Cambridge and they stock basically everything Rowan sells, plus a lot of yorkshire spinners hanks and some nice sock yarn. The bookshop there also has some nice knitting books if you can successfully navigate the floors :)
I've recently purchased knitting for olive dusty artichoke online and I am a bit dissapointed - I thought it would be less dusty. I was thinking about using drops kids silk in lighter green to make the colour seems more vivid, but was a bit afraid. Now I am convinced to try 😉. I'm on second step of your v-neck route -also thought it was so boxy and shapeless at first, and now I am considering making small size because I have fell in love with this type of neckline.
Can I please ask you a question about Ingrid sweater,? I am wanting to knit this sweater in drops Lima should I add kids silk with it? Thank you so much for your pod casts I love them
Hey Florence! I just came upon this channel and really enjoyed your video content and style! I am primarily a jumper knitter, so your video was very inspirational! Lol-especially when you mentioned how you finished some of your jumpers within one week!!😆Wow!! Love it.
I want to knit a beautiful sweater such as yours , but I’m so overwhelmed . I do not read patterns, so I really need a step by step tutorial to get me started . Your handiwork is stunning ❤
From my experience using mohair helps that the other yarn doesn't pill so much. The fluff of mohair somehow protects the other fibre. But I don't like to use mohair in everything, although so many patterns have it nowadays. I have made a Drops Nepal sweater without mohair and it pills so much that I won't use it again. Unfortunately it is my husband's sweater and he won't let me unpill it. 😂
yes it definitely does contribute to the yarn holding up! but I find that if I don’t use mohair I can at least easily maintain the jumper, whereas once mohair jumpers do start to look worse for wear it’s a lot of trouble to clean them up so it’s always a trade off i’ve used nepal alone too and not found it too bad, but maybe that’s because I have a habit of quite regularly depilling my jumpers since it’s fun to me
This such a great collection! This makes me want to knit all the sweaters and try all the yarn :P But first I already have the yarn to knit your skort, I love the pattern so much! I can't wait to start, but sadly there's a lot of gift knitting to be done first, so maybe in December I'll finally start :)
Thank you for the video. First time for me watching your videos. I live in Cambridge too!! Really struggle to find yarn. Basically all the yarn I buy is online 🤷🏾♀️ really useful information about mohair. I’m addicted to mohair. Currently knitting Amiata with 2 strands of mohair +nepal 🫣
Quick question about yearns. Where more than one yarn is mentioned, does it mean you mix two together to create your own bespoke project-specific yarn?
I definitely want to knit that defend My favorite things sweaters that you showed. I test knit that Lumme sweater. It’s a beautiful pattern however I didn’t like the way it fit me. I don’t really like wearing colorwork sweaters either. I also like neutral colors so all of these that you showed are my style too! The sweater you designed is beautiful. I think I will knit it!
i just finished a sweater no.18 using drops alaska (it was a stashbuster too) which is i think even thicker than drops nepal and its so so so heavy lol
Hi Florence, Have you tried Drops Merino Extra fine? I was wondering if it is anywhere close to Knitting for Olive Heavy Merino? Do you think this would achieve a similar feel to the fabric? Thank you.
It’s really different! The Drops is shiny, stretchy superwash yarn in bright colours, whereas the KFO is matte and non-superwash, not stretchy, and muted. The finished look is really different.
I do not like it when continental knitting snobs, suggest for English knitters to switch styles. Im an English knitter, but can knit continental. I prefer English. I have arthritis in my left hand. So its uncomfortable for me to knit continental for very long. Said all that to say... who cares...just enjoy your craft and endorse your knits and knitting style. Your sweaters are beautiful!
I'm with you! I love to knit for relaxation, and as a hobby, so it annoys me when people tell knitters to knit faster by hanging to knitting continental! I dont want to rush through my projects as I love the knitting process at the steady rate that I knit them! I am not in a race to finish them!
@@TracyKNixon I actually loved when I took their advice and switched to continential. I have limited time but I wanted to enjoy knitting even in a tight schedule, so knitting faster was a life saver. I agree, love her knitting but I struggle to understand what shes saying as the speed and the tilt in her voice makes for very difficult listening...for me!
Overall I enjoyed your video but sometimes you talk to fast and your voice trails off and I can’t understand half of what you’re saying so it was very frustrating to have to watch some parts of the video 3 times to hear everything.
