That was my amp that I bought boxed, secondhand (but looked and sounded like new)maybe 15 years ago. It spent most of those years in its box stored at my house in southern France and then the last two in a shipping container back in England due to personal circumstances. I switched it on for the first time a few weeks ago and for about 10 minutes it worked but seemed to lack any real gain. Then it completely stopped making again sound! The lights were on but there was no one at home! In total, it only ever probably gave me less than 10 hours playing time during my ownership. A sad and ignominious end but it just wasn’t economically viable for me to have it repaired with everything that was found to have failed. 😢
Great sounding amp.. when it works. Had one for a few years. Needed regular maintenance. Laney Cub 12 has the same bias circuit, same comp values and is very similar in general. The schematic is much clearer. Post 2009 VC15s have a solid state reverb so, if that has a tank, the electrolytic caps are likely nearing end of life, esp if its sat unused for a while.
This reminds me of the Laney LC15 I bought nearly 30 years ago. A very nice well reviewed compact combo amp.. Except when eventual user feedback advised the amp should be used upside down due to glue in the valve sockets melting and running down onto and burning on the hot glass of the valves.
Ive got output tranxs with uneven resistance each side but isnt it the turns ratio as one side is longer due to winding two together..thats what ive read somewhere
Such a shame that to save a few quid Laney chose SMC's which in my opinion don't belong in critical functions (bias) in a valve amp.. Interesting video though Martyn. Hope you're fully recovered soon.
Sadly yes, the VC15 PCB is too fiddly to repair, double-sided, surface mount etc., and replacement PCBs are no longer available from Laney... I part-fixed one recently for a friend (FOC) but addressing all its issues or having any confidence in the further longevity of the amps was simply unrealistic. Frustrating, 'cos it's a really nice-sounding amp when running well, and small / light enough to be no problem taking along to small gigs & rehearsals.
Hope you’re feeling better mate. Yet another candidate for a point to point rebuild if the owner wants to dispose of it cheaply. It’s terrible how these things are made to go to landfill.
@@vintageguitaramp_guitarteacher , I'm doing better but still coughing up gunk; I'll feel pretty good in the afternoon and evening and then feel like crap the next morning!
VC15 is a great amp sonically when in fine fettle! Love your new outro music 🎵
Hello, thank you. It's a shame this one is to far gone. Take care.

Glad to hear you're doing better my friend. Each episode is a new adventure in learning and I appreciate everything brother 👊😎
Sorry to hear you've been feeling poorly Martyn... hope you get on the mend real soon. At least the 'Ronas didn't get you!
Hello Michael, thank you. I am all good now. Just miles behind with repairs. Take care.

It was mine and I admit it spent most of the last 15 years just stored in its box due to personal circumstances. As you say, a sad end. 😢

I see you added some soloing to your outro music. Nice!

Sometimes, if it ain’t ants, it’s fleas. a good call. The minute you put a soldering iron to that amp you own it as far as the customer is concerned.

Cathode Bias maybe too reliable for Laney? Or let's hide a load of crap under the board on this one just for a giggle?
У вас прививки от гриппа не делают , что-ли ?
Everybody is sick, literally everyone
I am....
I'm in rude health!!.
Yes, same down my way. I am still on low power but a blast on the mega does wonders.
