Hello from Seattle!
I hope you enjoy my best attempt at a note-for-note run on a truly great track originally played by one of my biggest drumming influences, Vinnie Colaiuta. The track is "Seven Days" from Sting's album Ten Summoner's Tales.
More and more, I've been getting into doing note-for-note transcriptions of many musicians that have influenced my playing in one way or another. Not only has it been a tremendous learning experience for myself, but I thought that presenting it to everyone in this format would be helpful to other drummers who might be wanting to do the same thing.

First and foremost, great job! I love how relaxed you play this groove. 2nd, I’ve seen a lot of people cover this song, some better than others and yours is near the top. It really goes to show how far drumming continues to get easier with each decade. So many great people sharing their expertise on TH-cam.

Just came across this vid and have to say it’s by far the most absolute definite best cover ever seen/heard - man, not only is it played identical to the original, the drums are tuned the same and even the cymbals are the same tone/pitch. Quite frankly it’s like listening to Vinnie’s original recorded version! That’s some serious sick shit!!

I 'm blown away! The only thing I could input is the wonderful hi-hat splashing that occurs. Most of the time I've seen Vinnie (even his day's with "Dog Cheese" in LA) the left leg was always busy doing 8th note's which make's a splash very easy during solo's and a nice fill in sound. Which helped me quite a bit with keeping it and not train wrecking a tune. Still working on it, Cheers and Thanks.
Very nice. This song has been one of my all time favorite drum tracks. Most people would overlook the complexity of the drumming here... but I would think most drummers would not. Vinnie is an incredible drummer.

the ultimate prog pop drum track and also one of my favorite songs. Wish I had the time to learn this. Young drummers, practice and learn as much as you can before you have to move out of your parents house and into the real world. Most of you will not have time, if you have to work a fulltime job etc...and if you get married and have kids it's even harder.

What everyone has missed about Vinnies feel on this track is that its a 100% Homage to Stewart Copeland! Its Vinnie playing Stewart ! Obviuosly Sting has Stewart Copelands playing in his DNA . Vinnie also has Stewarts playing style and feel in his DNA as well.
If you heard this track on the radio and had no knowlegde who played the drum track you would think 'AaaaH Stewart Copeland . But Great work playing this track Man ! Great sound and kit !

Eh, Im not denying that here, Nick is a great drummer and this is one of, if not the best drum covers Ive ever seen on youtube. Im just pointing out something I noticed, it was otherwise flawless.
vinnie would be proud/impressed. (i used to set up his kit in LA studios back in the 90's)

Yeah! I also like the exactness and precision here. A lot of guys just play something similar to the original but they often drop a stroke or even a fill here and there. This was really fun to watch. I like when covers are exact.
