    The new GOLD guideline, no longer suggests Albuterol as the first-line option for a rescue inhaler. The newer recommendation is Formoterol (LABA that has quick onset) + ICS.
    The available combinations are: Formoterol + Mometasone (Dulera) and Formoterol + Budesonide (Symbicort)

    For Beta 2 agonist (albuterol), do we avoid both selective and non-selective Beta blockers or only non-selective Beta blockers like sotalol, propranolol?

    • @SimpleNursing
      @SimpleNursing  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      While selective beta-blockers are not as likely to cause pulmonary side effects as non-selective beta-blockers, they can cause pulmonary side effects, especially at high doses.

    Another superb video and lesson, Mike. Question. at 4:53 we instruct the patient to hold for a few seconds. What if, due to the rapid spasming, holding breath just doesn't work? Is some length of hold better than nothing? Do we wait for the cough intervals to increase enough? Do we move to Ipratropium if they don't?

    • @SimpleNursing
      @SimpleNursing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Patrick Meehan good question, that recommendation is on the NCLEX, but it differs in real life in the clinical settings lol ... so if you want to get it right on the exam then follow the video :)

      @@SimpleNursing Okay! But it was useful for me because I suffer from that respiratory thing.
      You call it albuterol, we call it salbutamol here in our region.
      When I use Tiotropium it causes dry mouth and indigestion and gas collection in my stomach and intestines. Tip of the stool becomes hard but it doesn't cause constipation.

    4:30 Why does Albuterol cause an increase in productive cough? Isn't this an anticholinergic medication that would decrease salivation/secretions? Or does the fact that it is productive just mean you can RID your body of the mucus more easily despite the fact that you would have a dryer mouth? This point really threw me off
