    I think it's important to mention that the risk of a hypertensive crisis is largely overblown. While there are some foods that have a high probability of causing it, most patients can get away without changing their diet much at all. For example, I'm on Nardil, and I eat parmesan and other aged cheeses, chocolate, aged meat, and more, and I've never had a hypertensive crisis. Of course, everyone is different and should start out slowly when trying foods with tyramine while on an MAOI. However, a tyramine-induced hypertensive reaction is not nearly as common as we once thought. MAOIs are incredibly useful for treatment-resistant depression and severe anxiety, and I wouldn't want to scare practitioners away from incorporating them into their toolkits or patients from being willing to take them.

    There's many other side effects like myoclonus, urinary hesitancy, anorgasmia. We need more psych NPs who are aware of all these side effects and how to treat them. The tyramine diet is so simple. It's these other issues that are complicated and that I as a Nardil patient need help with.

    I am a Nurse practitioner in Reno. I have a client that is out of Nardil and has no possibility of getting an in this state. Do you know of a pharmacy that has a supply of the medication? I" am not sure how yo. would contact me. This is urgent, My patient has been out of medications for a week

  • @ladydee245

    is olanzapine one of them

    • @vwvqr
      @vwvqr หลายเดือนก่อน

      Olanzapine could almost be considered to be the opposite of an MAOI. It's an atypical antipsychotic. It regulates and kind of limits dopamine, for example. Whereas MAOIs work by increasing neurotransmitters like dopamine.
